I have just installed Maverick. When I use Safari and try and open a Pdf file from a webpage I get a black screen and tells me to download Adobe. I have reinstalled adobe reader but still don't get anywhere. I can open any pdf files I have previously stored or have in downloads or in documents.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I do not have Microsoft Office for my mac but I am looking into it as I will be going back to study soon and know I will encounter problems when it comes to transfering documents from my mac to a PC with Microsoft software. However I really love the mac application 'Pages' for personal projects so I am just wondering if I can still use it alongside Microsoft or I must give it up?

"Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file <filename>. There are several possible reasons:
- The file name or path does not exist.
- The file is being used by another program.
- The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook."

This is the first time I have created an Excel file on my own MacBook Air, and while doing so, I noticed that five Excel files were created somehow on my desktop, with file names such as "B958D530." I cannot move them, open them, get info about them, or delete them. What are these and how do I get rid of them?

I need to merge about 17 excel files. All have the same headers and are data from different individuals on the same topics. How can I merge into 1 master file without cutting and pasting all 17 files into a master. Also would be great to be able to break out new spreadsheets by individual columns. ( i.e. Location, Part Number , ect ). A friend wrote a little program for me that worked when I was using a windows based machine, but will not work in the Mac environment.
MS Excel put two files on my desktop that cannot be opened, moved or trashed. They are not files I created, and are identified by a random series of 8 letters/numbers. When I try to open or move them there's simply no response. When I try to trash them I get the message: "The item 'xxxxxxxx' can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted." I had this same problem a couple years ago and I called Apple Care and they walked me through how to delete the files. Now my Apple Care is expired and I'd rather not pay $50 to resolve a rather simple problem. It's just that I can't recall the procedure for deleting these files. how to get these files off the desktop?

Upgraded to Office 2011 from 2008, when I open existing spreadsheet on MacBook the bottom of the page extends below the dock so I cannot access resize corner. I can maximize to get access to resize but am looking for fix so that when a sheet is opened the page does not fall below dock. Even happens on new default spreadsheet.

I have five different excel files on the dock (they appear below the line, along with the trash icon). When I click on them a question mark appears on top of the excel symbol, and "help" says this means they have been deleted. None of them were saved anywhere but on the dock. But I have not opened three of them for weeks, and cannot find any of them with "finder". I always save when prompted before closing the Excel application, and would never knowingly delete them, as they represent hundreds of hours of work.

My MBP blew up so am on a temporary Blackbook and luckily all my important day to day docs are on my iDisk, no problem I thought... But something really odd is happening, when I try to open a spreadsheet with Excel (tried 04 and 08) it says "the file may be read only or you may be trying to access a read only location or the server the document on may not be responding".
I can open the file with open office and ALL other file types open fine from iDisk (including Word and PPT).
At the moment I am having to drag the files to my desktop edit them and drag them back to iDisk so all is up to date when I get my computer back.
Has anyone had anything similar? Any tips gratefully received (apart from the obvious; ditch MS Office!).
After first noticing the problem I set iDisk to keep a local copy on the temp machine but this made no difference.
Excel is opening closed files from prior sessions when I log into my Mac Pro on Lion. I want excel to launch at log in, but I don't want it opening a lot of files that I have no interest in and since they are big, they take a lot of time to open. I haven't been able to find the setting that will eliminate this problem. Does anyone have any information about whether there is a setting or whether this is "a Feature"?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot access or save exel or Powerpoint Files. I did restart the machine after every install. I also repaired the disc permissions but I had two messages come up:
1. SUID file " system/library/CoreS...as been modified and will not be repaired
2. SUID file " system/library/Private...as been modified and will not be repaired When I try and open an excel or PowerPoint file that already exists, a message pops up and says that "the file cannot be accessed".When I try and save a new file it says that several things could be wrong such as:I have installed and uninstalled so many times. I have called apple and they said its a Microsoft problem so they wouldn't help. I then called Microsoft and they wont help unless I purchase another copy. The copy I originally had got deleted during my reboot. I have no idea how to solve this problem. I need excel in order to do my schoolwork.
