Anyone else watching these? They are somewhat fast for my free copy of Portal, BUT Steam says 4.x MB/s while activity monitor is about half that. Curious to know why steam is off by so much, maybe to "misrepresent" to the customer Curious what you all are getting. I have the MBP hooked up with an AIRPORTBS @300mb/s, along with the standard Comcast 8/2 speeds.

I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

It will NOT go above 100 kB/s, and i can't figure out how to fix it. i set the download speed to around 80, and it still doesn't work. i've been downloading a game( it's around 1.2GB), and i've been downloading it for two or three hours-it's only at 29%. what the heck?
View 23 Replies View Related im having a problem with really slow download speeds on utorrent.ive only just started using my mac for downloading torrents since my PC died, and im only getting about 6kbs from anything i try to download, my PC was connected to my router (BT Home Hub) through an ethernet cable, and it worked fine, so all i can think of its my Airport blocking access to Utorrent.
i read up on something called port fowarding, but i want to be sure about what im doing before i start poking around my mac
Had to wipe my hard drive and re install Lion from Internet Recovery. Am downloading Maverick to upgrade now but computer running so slow and colored "progress wheel" on the screen every time I try do something. Had never seen that wheel before now. How do I speed it up other than downloading and installing Maverick.?

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I boot up steam and i go into preferences and test the mic it works perfectly then when i boot a game like team fortress the mic works for like 30 mins and stops, people have been saying that its a buzzing noise

i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!

I had a desktop that I would normally game with but now that my sister is using it for schoolwork, that's not possible. I never even thought about using my mbp for gaming, let alone a 13" model, but now I'm getting desperate. I don't plan on running anything that intense. I usually play some Team Fortress 2 and Counter-strike: Source. My main question is: for those of you that have had experience, which would be a better solution for me? Using Bootcamp and installing Windows XP or getting Steam for Mac? I'm not sure how the process goes for Bootcamp. I'm imagining you would have to dedicate some hard drive space. On the other hand, I've heard that Steam on Mac runs pretty slow compared to it's Windows counterpart. Anyone know if this is true? Appreciate the help.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the "yasu" mac cleaning software, ran a sweep on the mac, then restarted. It basically clears local and web cache, and some other stuff. Well now I can't play stagecraft 2 (like it ran good anyway), and get get on steam (like it ran good anyway). When trying to login to steam it prompts me that steam needs to self-update before launching. So I enter my name / password and nothing happens. I try to open vuze, a torrent program, doesn't even open. Safari works. What did I do? It seems it's not reading the admin permissions correctly. ITunes won't open either
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm debating on whether -- when they are upgraded -- to get the top of the line 15 inch macbook pro or the top of the line macbook air. I'm going to college in 2011 and I do hope to do a tad bit of gaming during part of my free time. I currently have a early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor and 2 gb of ram along with a 256 nvidia 8600m GT graphics card and a 5400 rpm 200 gb hdd. I can run call of duty 4 at almost maximum settings with little to no tearing, blurring, or lag during both single player and online play. Would the macbook air be faster than my current system? Could I run games like left for dead 2 or the steam ww2 game (i forgot what it's called) at medium to good quality? How about with the current macbook air? Would the macbook pro be a better choice? I absolutely love the size of the macbook air and the appeal of steam is that I don't need to use a disk to run the games (which would be good on a macbook air).

Just bought a 2.53ghz 4g RAM MacBook Pro, just wondering what version of Windows 7 will give me the best performance (through boot camp). I might get the Ultimate edition but should I install the 32/64/86 edition? I'll be using it to run Windows program (obviously) and the occasional L4D2 or TF2 through Steam. I'd like to hear some of user experiences with various versions.

Has anyone got steam to work in OSX?? I play counter-strike and condition zero. I'd like to play these in my iMac w/o having to reboot into bootcamp windows xp. I'm currently trying CrossOver-Games but no luck.

Because of DirectX, games just seem to run better on my Windows side. Anyone planning on scrapping Windows for the Mac Steam client? It's nice to see more games coming to Mac but they still seem crippled by OpenGL.

I checked system profiler but quite frankly wasn't sure of the designations.. does anyone have any experience with this camera, by the way? is USB 2.0 by definition "High Speed"?
