MacBook Pro :: Gives Slight Electrical Shock When Charging?

May 21, 2012

When the Macbook Pro is charging, I can feel a little electricity in my fingertips. Unfotunately, I don't have a three prong outlet, just two. Either way, I think this was not supposed to be.

Mac Pro :: Does Your 2008 MP Give A Slight Electrical Humming Noise?

Apr 14, 2009

..by the power unit at the back of the machine - where the power cord goes in.

I happened to be switching out displays at the back of my MP today. Could hear the fan at the lower back portion of the machine (as normal). but this time could also hear a very slight electrical hum just by the power unit -- is this normal (the hum) does yours have this hum?

I never heard it before. guess my head was never that close to it when the MP was on the floor. but since i moved it to the top of the desk my head is closer to it when I switch out the DVI ports

Trying not to be obsessive. I'll run before the white coats turn up by the front door

IMac :: When 27" In Sleep Mode Or Turned Off/slight Crackling Electrical Noise?

May 4, 2010

When the computer is sleeping or if I turn it off but the plug remains in the electrical socket, when I get very close to the machine I hear a slight crackling noise, as if the internal adaptor is making a slight noise. I don't hear it from any normal distance, and other than the buzzing phenomenon when brightness is below 50%, no other symptom. Is this normal for this model. I believe that the external adaptor for the 30" ACD made a louder but similar noise as well unless unpluged.

MacBook Air :: Finding Shock Factor

Dec 1, 2010

During winter months up north, things get cold and dry quickly. As a result, static electricity discharge becomes more frequent. I've always had a minor issue with my various Macbook Pro's over the years. But with my new MBA and the sudden drop in temps here in Chicago, my MBA is off the charts. I have started my winter routine of touching something else to discharge first before touching my MBA. Otherwise, I'll arc a spark every single time.

MacBook :: How To Beware The Static Shock

Jan 13, 2010

So I'm at a client tooling around with my late 2008 Aluminum MacBook. Carpet. Cold, dry weather. Are you getting scared yet? Go to pick it up off a table and zt! Shocked the hell outa myself and apparently my MacBook. I grabbed it on the right hand side and the static charge must have discharged through the slot loading cd rom drive. Now it won't charge. Battery and Mag Safe brick tested fine at the Apple store. They're going to swap out the Mag Safe port for $110 first and then the flat rate repair for around $380 if needed. Note to all Aluminum MacBook/Pro owners. Ground yourself, or plug in the grounded PSU brick.

MacBook Pro :: 13" Electrical Clicking Sound?

Sep 6, 2009

Has any one else experienced the random, but rather persistent electrical sounding snap or click that occurs while navigating the computer mostly with the touchpad. It is not the hardisk (been replaced to no avail). One person on apple forums suggested that all Macbook Pros make a snapping sound because the soundcard is either powering up out of sleep or powering down. It occurs sometimes more frequently, others not at all. Apple has offered to replace the computer with a new one, but if this is an endemic problem with just about all of them, I'd rather keep the one I have. The snapping or clicking isn't resounding, but can be rather irritating in a quiet room. At first I thought it was a short circuit sound snapping but was convinced otherwise later.

MacBook Pro :: Not Charging And Randomly Shutting Down When Removing Mag From Charging Port?

May 13, 2012

My Macbook pro is not charging. If I move the cord (specially at the Macbook charging port) it charges. But again if the cord is slightly disturbed then it doesn't charge. The problem got worse as my Mac randomly shuts down (especially when I remove the mag at the Macbook charging port). I dono what to do. Apple care (Genius) is far from my place. There is no visible physical damage on my mag charger. Could anyone suggest what I should do? I checked the battery status in system profiler and it says NORMAL. The details are as follows:

MacBook Pro :: Slight Peeling On Bottom Right Side

Nov 13, 2009

I am a proud owner of an Apple Macbook Pro 15 inch since Feb 2009. I am a converted user from PC to MAC and preach the benefits of Apple OS X et al to colleagues, friends and family. This morning I noticed some slight peeling on the bottom right side (near trackpad) of my Macbook Pro. At first I did not realise what it was, I thought it might be some surface marking / dust. I wiped the area with a dry cloth at which point a small part of the surface came away. Here is a link showing images that I have just taken. Need some constructive advice from the forum on what to do?

OS X :: Electric Shock / Vibration On UMBP 5?

Nov 3, 2009

I took the plunge and got a MBP 13 (5,5) in October. Its all going well except for the same problem that recurs.

The problem is that when plugged in via magsafe i recieve a mild tingling throughout the shell. This first happened a week after I got it but I solved it by using the long lead instead of the smaller plug. But now even the longer lead which is supposed to remove the issue still gives me the same vibration/electric shock feeling. Its NOT minor, I feel it when its plugged in and it hurts! I get a headache when it does this.

MacBook :: Slight Clicking Sounds Coming From Side

Oct 7, 2009

I bought this computer (Macbook Aluminum 2.4 GHz - currently running Snow Leopard) last October - my warranty ends Oct. 16th. Anyways, I put a disc in the drive earlier today, and the computer took it right away. That was unusual because half the time it doesn't wanna take the disc (someone at the genius bar assured me all of these Aluminum Macbooks are this way). So continuing with my story, I took the disc out when I was done and I heard slight clicking noises coming from the side where you put discs in. I closed the computer because I thought it would stop it, reopened it, and it was still doing it. So then I restarted it, and I didn't hear it. Now I'm hearing it every so often.

MacBook Pro :: 15" Zagg Invisishield Pictures And Slight?

May 29, 2010

I just got my first mac and its a MacBook Pro 15" i7 HR-AG and wanted to protect it and so I purchased a Zagg Invisishield for it. I also paid $20 for the installation ontop of the purchase to get it professionally installed...as I was looking into the details I noticed that the pieces are not properly cut out for the MBP 15" and are off leaving the edges unprotected from scratches. Disappointing because the edges will be most prone to scratches. Here are some pictures of my New MBP and Zagg Invisishield installed....

Also Zagg Invisishield owners is your cut out a little off too or did I end up with a bad one?

MacBook Air :: Slight Flickering Only On Dark Grey On External Display?

Sep 12, 2010

I have a 28" inch display attached to newest version of Air. Works ok except when I have a full screen on plain dark grey background, then I see a waviness or flickering effect. Like the dark grey in Iphoto background. Other than this, the other colors seems ok. Pictures are fine, even when dark. Maybe there's a slight flickering with dark blue. Any explanations for this.
using mini display port to dvi. Tried with a friends dual link display, was a little different, but still unstable looking in dark grey when it fills the screen.

Could it be just what it takes to make this color, or the Hertz, which is 60. Other than this, no problem with the screen.

MacBook :: Low Pitched Electrical Whistling Noise / Crackling Noise Emitting From Magsafe

Dec 20, 2010

I just got my 2.0ghz Alu Macbook a few days ago and everything works perfectly well, the thing is that after day one the magsafe started to emit a low pitched electrical whistling noise. It tends to be there a few minutes after booting into the OS and then it turns down to almost unhearable, but I experienced it returning after a few hours of use and then disappearing again. If I move close to the escape key I can hear a crackling noise emitting from the magsafe.I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky or anything but I read somewhere that if it's doing that it would be a faulty Mag-Safe board or something.

Does any one you guys know anything about this? I have the 14 days to return it as I bought it online from the Apple Store so if it's a faulty part that might die/break/ cause problems later I might have to.

OS X :: Electric Shock Reset Clock / Wireless / Shut Off The Computer?

Jun 15, 2010

I don't know if this is something to be worried about but I notice that when the tip of the display port cord ( from the ACD ) touches the metal frame of my MacBook Pro there is a tiny blue arch of electricity visible. Well, I just bumped that cord into the frame of the MBP and as soon as that happened the computer completely shut off, it just went to a black screen and turned back on when I connected it via AC outlet. When the computer started back up the clock was messed up ( 2008 date ) and it had forgotten all of my WIFI passwords.

I was just wondering why this happens?

MacBook Pro :: Tape Securing Fan To Heatsink / Electrical Tape?

Jul 4, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro 15" - Model A1226 (Santa Rosa, circa 2007). I need to replace my right fan. AppleCare just expired (of course). But replacing the fan should be pretty easy, I think.

The only question is about the tape securing the fan to the heatsink. On the old fan it looks like electrical tape, but on the "sticky" side, it looks like there is a bit of copper (?) in the middle.

So my assumption is that regular old electrical tape is not appropriate, but some special kind of electrical tape. What type of tape is that?

Intel Mac :: Finder Quits / Stalls And Freezes - Electrical Damage?

Jul 2, 2012

My 2.33gh intel core 2 is acting erratic. The finder quits, stalls and freezes...it turns off and then reappears. Programs fail. adobe will not run. It was on during the huge electrical storm last weekend. It started acting like this after. It was on a surge protector, but those are not 100%.

I can get a ways into backing up files. I am attempting to install Lion, but I did not journal the partition. And It looks like I have to clean install and erase the HD. If power surge did damage, software will not work. Does the finder issue look like electrical damage?

MacBook Pro :: Mid-2009 13" Says "not Charging" But Seems To Be Slowly Charging With Power Adapter

May 19, 2012

I have a mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM.  I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging."  I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have.  It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old.  It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential.  The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening.  The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.
