My Macbook has the infamous crack on the palm rest, I've made a reservation at a genius bar. Could anyone tell me what has happened with their macbook when going to get this sorted? Will they have to take it away and if so how will i get back? I've heard that sometimes people have got their macs back with blank drives, I'm guessing it would be best to make a back up. Its quite an inconvenience for me not to have my Macbook during the week, is there anyway they can do this in one day?

View 10 Replies View Relatedfirst post! I have been lurking around the forum for quite some time. I decided to pick up a macbook pro today because I was able to get a pretty good educational discount. I have the 15" MacBook Pro top end with the matte screen.
Everything seems perfect right now. However, even when the volume is at 50%, and I play something that has bass in it, the RIGHT palm rest shakes/vibrates a lot, and you can feel it. It is a tad bit annoying. I was wondering if this was normal.
Everytime i hold the mbp up with just one hand, there would be this clicking sound. I think its near the left hand side of the palmrest. is it near the hard drive? is it of any concern? Sorry if this has been asked before but i just got my mac a month ago and am a new Mac user
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a palm rest like the one that Zagg has. I want to protect the full internal surface of the MBP 13 (palm rest and around the keyboard). Is it possible to find one of those without the other stuffs that are coming with it? I was also interested about the moshi palm rest but protect only the palm rest area.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just recently noticed on my Macbook (black rev. C 2.1ghz) that there is some slight flex where the palms rest to the left and right of the trackpad. This isn't a big deal, but what made me notice this was the fact that pressing down enough on the palm rests (either side) actually registers a click with the mouse.
I noticed when I was typing and some reason the words would get highlighted. After awhile I tried pressing down on the palm rest area and it would show a click on the screen. Anyone else have this issue? It's not happening all the time and there's not major flex but it happens.
It's not a big deal, but a bit annoying so far when I'm typing and it would either click somewhere else or highlight the word and delete what I'm typing. As of now I just lifted my wrists off the rest (which I should be doing anyway). If it matters I also have the MacAlly microfiber/felt laid over the palm rest. Makes me wish I had a unibody!
I recently acquired a MacBook Pro from Apple. Its the 15" Unibody model. Upon opening it, I found that the surface of the palm rest has a rough finish to it; kinda as though it didn't go through the final polishing stage or something when it was manufactured. This rough texture feels very uncomfortable to my hands when I type, in comparison to the normal "soft" feel and texture to it that I've experienced with other Unibodies. Has anyone else experienced this with their Macs? If it matters, I got mine from a California distribution center because I got an exchange. Wasn't sure if that had to do with anything, but the seal had been broken once (but resealed with another) for what I presume was to insert the Snow Leopard drop-in DVD. I was assured it wasn't by a manager from customer support, but the computer almost seemed as though it was a refurbished model.

However, I've attempted the first synchronization which seemed to go OK but I can't find on my Mac Pro any of the calender/address and other information that is on my Palm and should have been transferred. I've looked in iCal,Address Book and iMail but there's nothing.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy macbook started to crack below the right palm rest right on the seem between the inner and outter material. It broke off, resulting in a 3-4 inch gap right along the edge. The piece that broke off is very, very thin. My left palm rest has started doing the very same a few weeks ago... I also have noticed that a friend of mine with a white macbook has the same problem. Is this some sort of recognized defect? Like would I be able to go to an Apple store and have it replaced? If so, would the mac genius be able to transfer everything as is from my current macbook to my next one (AKA all passwords saved and everything, only difference is the hardware?)
View 15 Replies View RelatedThis is an issue I'm starting to notice on my 10 month old Macbook Pro 13 inch. There's this "white stain" on both palm rests of the MBP. Here's some sample pictures:

It cannot be cleaned off by wiping it, water, rubbing alcohol, etc. Note that I clean my MBP daily, even hourly, I always wash my hands and dry them before using this laptop, therefore, I know it's not a matter of sanitation.
Am switching from my Palm Treo to an iPhone. Trying to import my contacts and calendar. Was told I could import the Palm info to Entourage, and then have the new phone sync with Entourage. I have both Entourage and Palm Desktop on my Mac. When I follow the import prompts with Entourage I get the following:
What would you like to do?
-Import information from a program
Which program would you like to import information from?
-Palm Desktop
What would you like to import?
-Contacts
-Calendar
Then I get an "Open" window... what am I supposed to double-click here? I don't see any highlighted Palm program in the Applications folder.
I'm a recent PC convert, and I'm trying to convert my Palm Desktop for Windows version 4.1.4 calendar to iCal. But iCal looks to import vcal files, and Palm only exports .dba files. Is that the end of story, or is there a way of doing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old palm that I still keep data on. Am waitiing for the iPhone5 to come out then will transfer over the data. Just bought a new iMac 10.7.4 and when I went to back up the data it said that it was no longer supported. I have my old iMac still and I can back it up there but want to sell the old one. Is there a way to transfer at least my contacts data from my palm to somewhere on my new Mac for backup until the iPhone 5 comes out?

Does any one know of any applescripts or tools that allow you to sync palm desktop with the apple address book and ical? I'd rather use the palm option for syncing my palm because it's a lot faster, however would like to use the extra OS X functionality of the built in apps.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought my wife a new Al MacBook and need to migrate her Treo 700p from her old Windows machine to the new Mac. I used to use Palm Desktop for Mac and know it is a little quirky and may have some issues with Leopard, so I'm trying to decide whether I should go down that path or just install Fusion and run the windows version in a VM. Anybody have any recommendations either way? She uses Palm Desktop only for syncing, so I don't need to worry about the Leopard iSync issues.

Does the Macbook 2.0ghz alum one have this issues and whats the best why to help stop this from happening. I have not put my macbook on the charger after reading this i am really scared.
Anyways, at the moment my mac is around 6 months old and just recently I am noticing that the fan is starting to vibrate- like when I type on the mac with my palms rested on the computer I can feel the vibrations. Now it is subtle but was not there before. As I am typing this the fan is at 2000 rpm. Also, when I am not out with the computer. I hook it up to my 23 inch monitor and a portable keyboard. Now when I do this I can hear a very loud noise coming form the computer while using it as a desktop. Almost as it its straining to use it. Its not so much a violent noise as it is that the fan seems to be over working.
I dont know if I am getting paranoid or if this is a serious problem- I have a 3 year warranty from bestbuy. The small vibrations I can feel form the computer seem to be like a small issue- however my friend beside me with the same model- her mac is silent and doesn't vibrate subtly. However, I am more worried about the louder noise it makes when I hook it up at work. Like when i put the computer to sleep I can tell a substantial noise different in terms of it going silent after I put it to sleep.
I noticed from the start that there is a noticeable noise to it, not loud. But noticeable. I can feel some vibration under both my hands when typing. I have used one of my friends white mabcbook and this does not have any such noise to it. I did opt for the 7200 RPM HD and now my question is is the sound coming from the HD or the fans? The sound has been on constantly since I first turned it on. Downloaded SMC Fancontrol and it's showing 2000 RPM on both fans, but that's normal isn't it?So is there anything I can do? Is this normal or did I get unlucky?

View 11 Replies View RelatedHas any one else experienced the random, but rather persistent electrical sounding snap or click that occurs while navigating the computer mostly with the touchpad. It is not the hardisk (been replaced to no avail). One person on apple forums suggested that all Macbook Pros make a snapping sound because the soundcard is either powering up out of sleep or powering down. It occurs sometimes more frequently, others not at all. Apple has offered to replace the computer with a new one, but if this is an endemic problem with just about all of them, I'd rather keep the one I have. The snapping or clicking isn't resounding, but can be rather irritating in a quiet room. At first I thought it was a short circuit sound snapping but was convinced otherwise later.

So I got some left over IC Diamond 7 and It would really make me feel better to change the paste.. I seen some pics and apple is no better than dell when it comes to applying thermal paste.. lol they just "slop" it on there
Anyway.. . I'm ready to do this but the only thing that's stopping me is the warranty issue
Now it isn't my first time playing with hardware so braking something isn't and issue.. but from what I'm reading is that it's "seals" all throughout the laptop so if I removed anything.
Anyone wanna shed some light on this.
I have a 13" Late 2008 Al. Macbook, and something strange just happened. I was typing in Pages, when I started to hear and feel something clicking underneath my right palm. I recognized this as the hard drive, so I immediately shut down the computer. Tried restarting and heard the clicking again, so I held down the power button and force shut it down before it fully started up. Turned it around, removed the battery for a couple of seconds, then replaced it. Started up again, and the clicking disappeared; all my files are here as they were left.
