Just got my Macbook air and it's making loud fan noises after I use it for a long time. Is there anything I could do to prevent that. Or should I be worried? just want to be careful with my computer

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am so upset right now, this is my 2nd macbook with this problem. I just got this macbook yesterday and the hard drive is making a clicking noise, but it isn't a click....click...click... like a lot of people have had, it's actually more of a quick series of clicks every few seconds, almost like the hard drive is shaking. It goes away for a bit when I am typing, like right now, but after I stop it comes right back.
Also the fan is pretty loud, considering I haven't put anything on the computer yet.. I've already been to the genius bar and all they did was give me a new, worse macbook, so there is no way I'm going back. Are there any fixes for a noisy hard drive aside from voiding my warranty and putting my own in? If it is normal, I might just invest in a good pair on noise cancelling head phones... Thanks!
Hey guys, got a little issue here. I have had a MBA since about march of this year. Just recently I on two occasions the computer has all of a sudden had this loud high pitch whine. It has only happened twice and at both times (if I remember the 1st time correctly) I wasn't really doing anything on the computer. Today specifically it was just sitting idle on my desk. Not sure where its coming from maybe speakers? Any idea to what this is? Should I be setting up an appointment to see a Mac Genius?

I have a few questions.
1.) Is it normal for the Mac Pro's fans to make a lot of noise when you first start it up or wake it from sleep? My fans make a lot of noise for about 16 seconds or so.
2.) I am planning to put a second optical drive in it. Is there a way to eject only one tray at a time, or will it do both?
Now, I am selling my iMac for around $800 and I am looking at some upgrades:
An additional 21.5" Acer LCD display
A mini display port to dvi adapter
A LG blu ray burner
Two 1TB samsung internal HDs
A blu ray player (I do not have one yet)

My iMac suddenly making a really loud noise and I had to turn down the computer and reboot it

I was out of town so this description was second hand but the computer has been running a little weird for a while. When I have too many apps open or on a website that has a lot going on...the computer starts revving up until I quit out of everything and let it slow down. I guess while I was gone, this happened but nobody quit out the apps and it eventually turned the screen black. When I tried restarting it sounds like the computer is working but the screen is black so I can't see if it is booting up or not. I took the monitor into the apple store yesterday and it started up right away for them. It's a cinema 23" I think.

Today, I got home and turned on my iMac 21.5 inch. On a typical day, I'd here the "BONG" and then everything would be normal. Today, my fans, or something inside the computer, sounded like it was going crazy. I have no idea what's wrong.
My family just recently upgraded from an old PC to this 27" iMac, during the early part of the summer. While using it over the last little while, I would notice a noise that sounded like a harddrive spinning or possibly some sort of a fan noise. The best way to describe it would probably be as digital noise. It's not incredibly loud, but it's a decent volume, and can get quite annoying. It has a little bit of a squeak to it.
Over the last little while, it's become more constant. When the computer is in use, it'll usually occur quite often. It's quite annoying and obtrusive when I'm watching videos and I'd like to know what it could be.I think our computer is still under warranty, so I'm hoping to find out if it is something wrong, so I can get it replaced.
I've also been wondering if it's a fan, or a regular noise. However, it's so constant that I'm starting to wonder. The other night, I was watching a video and it seemed like it was coming on every 30 seconds for a long span of time. We don't run any memory heavy programs on this computer. If anything, we're just using Firefox, iTunes and/or Messenger. Sometimes Office. There's little to nothing stored on this computer, as it's brand new, so most of its memory is free.
I have an older 15" powerbook Titanium. About five years old now. Been working pretty well all five years, save for an external hinge I had to replace. Last night, the computer started buzzing from the insides, a buzzing reminiscent of a distant chainsaw. The program i was working in (firefox) just went to the pinwheel of doom and never recovered. I moved to the finder, which did the same. I forced booted. Same noise. Same problems. I can use programs for a few minutes, but then they pinwheel of doom and the computer freezes out.

What causes this? Where does this noise come from? Is my MBP defective?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back.The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.
This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.
If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.
My first generation unibody Macbook hasn't had any problems to this date but now it's constantly making that mechanical loading-like noise which is usually heard when the Macbook is switched on (the noise before the start up sound) or when the lid is opened to wake up the computer. Is there a fix to this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy friend's Macbook Pro (2006, 1.83ghz, upgraded to 2gb ram) has been making ridiculously loud fan noises. We found it was coming from the right fan, sounds like something is scraping - almost a tractor engine-type sound. I have a newer Macbook Pro and I installed fan control 1.2 on both of our macs to compare. It turns out on hers, the LEFT fan is running at 0rpm and the RIGHT fan (the noisy one) is running at fairly average speeds (compared to mine, which is quiet - between 1500 and 3500rpm). The temperature seems to be on par with mine (about 115-140 degrees F). We did a PMU reset, which didn't change anything. Do I need to replace BOTH fans? I have researched it, and it seems like I could replace them if I had to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro 2009 with a 500GB drive (WDigital, I replaced the 160GB). I was using Perian to play mkv movies, and yesterday I downloaded Plex to try it out. But in both every time I play a Mkv file the fans start spinning, I think it's the fans or maybe the hard drive. But it's quite a loud whoosh all throughout the movie. Is this normal or playing a mkv file shouldn't make any noise at all? Should it use a lot of CPU? I'm using Leopard latest version.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAnyways, at the moment my mac is around 6 months old and just recently I am noticing that the fan is starting to vibrate- like when I type on the mac with my palms rested on the computer I can feel the vibrations. Now it is subtle but was not there before. As I am typing this the fan is at 2000 rpm. Also, when I am not out with the computer. I hook it up to my 23 inch monitor and a portable keyboard. Now when I do this I can hear a very loud noise coming form the computer while using it as a desktop. Almost as it its straining to use it. Its not so much a violent noise as it is that the fan seems to be over working.
I dont know if I am getting paranoid or if this is a serious problem- I have a 3 year warranty from bestbuy. The small vibrations I can feel form the computer seem to be like a small issue- however my friend beside me with the same model- her mac is silent and doesn't vibrate subtly. However, I am more worried about the louder noise it makes when I hook it up at work. Like when i put the computer to sleep I can tell a substantial noise different in terms of it going silent after I put it to sleep.
For lucky 15" i5/i7 owners: how silent are they? Does the fan come on at all? If so, after how much load? Any other noises? Hard drive?

Now, before I bring it into the Apple Store to have it looked at I just want to check and see if maybe I'm just being overly picky. I downloaded iStat, based on some Google searching I did on the subject and my fans are running around 2000 rpm, which I understand is normal. But in my apartment, which is admittedly quiet, I can hear my fan running constantly. It isn't extremely loud, but it isn't totally quiet either. I'm just wondering what level of noise I should reasonably expect out of my Macbook.

every once and a while, when I am working on my MBA, i get a loud "ticking noise" in the upper right of my keyboard.It sounds like the harddrive is trying to think or something, but it only happens for about 5 seconds and it occurs even at idle if i dont do anything that requires the computer to use memory or access the cache, etc...
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy 17" Macbook Pro was purchased on Feb 24th 2009 via telesales, so it's less than 6 months old. The hinge is very creaky and on the right hand side it makes a loud clicking noise when I open and close it, also the whole screen seems to creak, not just the hinge. The wall charger is in my opinion very loose, it was loose when I got it ( should have changed it then ), but I haven't really moved it that much ( maybe 10 times in the space of 5 months and this is also becoming a concern. I contacted Apple today and they told me I have 1 year of telephone support and 3 years parts and labour as I order though Higher Education.
They told me that I can go to a Apple store or authorized repair centre to have it looked at, but all the stores are 2 hours away. I asked about mail-in repairs and he said that could be set up but they would prefer if I went to a store. The question is, should I send it in and hope they take care of my Mac i.e don't scratch or mark it etc. After reading some stories about repairs, I'm a little concerned about it, and don't like anyone to touch my Laptop. Obviously I would prefer a replacement as I have work to do and I don't want to be without my Mac.
Well my Macbook Pro makes a loud "sticky" sorta noise when I click on the edges of it, and you can really hear it when i click outside the trackpad on the actual frame. Its quite annoying, and I just bought the new 13" Macbook Pro and this does not make this noise. [URL]

Are others experiencing this? I'm having issue getting a good solid answer after googling for quite a while. Some of the threads I have read also lead to no end result.
When I watch any videos, no matter what it is, after about 2 minutes my black macbook heats up and then run at fan speeds of 3600-4800rpm and it's super annoying and hot. As soon as I turn off the video, it cools down back to 1800 RPM and runs at 62 degrees. Sooooo odd.
I went to the genius bar and the guy there said that it is probably due to the fact that Snow Leopard takes advantage of the dual-core processor. I don't understand why it needs to utilize this processor where as it never had an issue on leopard before I upgraded.
I've also read that reloading the OS doesn't seem to help. Is this a common issue? Should I go back to Leopard?
I've only noticed that expose` is a little bit fancier on SL but other than that, I do not notice much of anything that is different.
Just got a brand new macbook pro, and eve since I first started it up it has made this weird noise right before the start up audio. i have done some research and i have found out that there are two superdrives that apple puts into their macbooks and that one is louder then the other, but this was back in 2009. should apple have fixed that through out all these years. what should i do?
