MacBook Pro :: Bottom Third Of New System Is Darker?
Apr 16, 2010
lower third of the 13" new MBP, is darker than the rest. So when I am reading forums, the top starts off with white background, and the bottom is clearly a darker grey. This only is visible when setting the backlight to less than 75% max brightness. Normally I have it at half brightness. I am gonna be crazy with taking these things back. My big cheap Dell LCD and E6500 laptop have no where near the uniformity issues this Macbook has been having. Is this common or do I keep getting bad ones?

If I view a pure white image it looks like maybe 1/4" has a slight gradient. The darkness in the right corner is a little more prominent and extends maybe 1/2" Anyone else seeing this on their 11"?

My Air's screen is slightly darker at the bottom (only on a few millimeters, but still). It only happens on a white/light background though (I don't have my dock at the bottom). In comparison, the screen of my MacBook has a very uniform backlight. Does anybody else have this issue?

I had so far been using it with screen brightness level set at 7 bars out of 16.But, since the past few days, I've noticed that 7 bars is too dark. I have to set the level at 9 or 10 bars to feel comfortable.Nothing else in the MBP settings or the environment have changed. I don't use any of the auto dimming features.I'm wondering whether it's the MBP or my eyes that are deteriorating.Has anyone experienced or heard of gradual dimming of MBP screens over time? Can anyone suggest causes for dimming?

defective screen or this model is supposed to be darker. I have a 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (the last revision) and the new 2.4Ghz i5 MacBook Pro which I just bought today.I noticed the i5 screen is much dimmer, it is the same manufacturer but the model is 9CA4. The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro model is 9CA3.Are the 9CA4 models supposed to be darker or do I have a defective screen> I wanna know so I can go and exchange it

I took my MacBook to the Apple Store about a month ago because of a problem and the person opened it up to look inside. Now a couple of the screws on the bottom are coming loose and the bottom plate moves up and down a bit. My question is am I allowed to tighten the screws myself because I heard opening it voids my warranty but what about simply tightening them.Â

I am having a display issue with my MacBook (mid-2007) I am getting occasional pixelation on darker colors. The pixels turn redish/purplish/pinkish...If I press on the screen near the Apple logo (on the top cover) and on the lcd screen I can sometimes get the issue to go away. When I plug in an external monitor the pixelation does not show up on the external monitor but will stay on the laptop lcd display. I do have windows also installed and the pixelation shows up in windows as well.... So my thinking that it is likely an issue with the LCD cable or LCD display....Â

My niece was poking away at my MacBook and somehow brought up System Preferences by clicking some combination in the bottom left of the keyboard. I think it may of involved the ~ key. Does anyone know what it might be as it would be very useful? Last week she managed to move the dock to the left of the screen instead of the bottom with what looked like a single keystroke. However there may of been some kind of trackpad swipe involved.

I was testing out the MBA 13" and 11" again. My main goal was to see how much faster Flash & SSD are in comparison to HDD. It's so fast at restarting and booting. However I noticed something strange. Both units had darker tint towards the edge of the screens. I know colour shift happens with TN panels, but not like this?

I see lots of people on these forums with such sweet themes. Many times I ask the person, but I get no response. So, where DOES everyone get their themes from? I'm looking for a sleek modern, darker one.

My IMac screen keeps changing brightness as I use it, currently the LHS of the screen is not as bright as the right. Â
Does this sound like an adjustment or a fault? The sytem is about 6 months old from new.

Switched the machine on today to notice that the left side of the screen is darker than the right. I have put the brightness on full to confirm this. Is it possible the LED backlight is failing?

I have an iMac 27". The left half of my screen started flickering, and now it is quite darker than the right side (facing my computer). Do I have to bring it in to the store or is there a fix?

At the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

Since a couple of days, my screen (iMac 27" mid 2011) turns off. Also, half of the screen looks darker. Is it a hardware problem or maybe can be solved by software?

I just wanted to get a take on this. I recently sold my Macbook and still have a 2.66ghz iMac at home. I was going to pull the trigger on a new shiny MBP than I started doing some checking the the 330M I wish it were a better card.
So I got the idea to sell my iMac as well and get the iMac i7 and a low end MBP 13. Now this is what I would use it for. I need a portable for presentations, I do light photoshop and web work, entering into video FCP etc. I also bootcamp for bits of gaming (L4D, Dragon Age) and eyeing SC2 later on. With this in mind there are 3 issues.
1:

2:
the iMac Screen issues (yellowing)and
3:
the cost will be about $300 more so $900 MBP only vs $1200 iMac and low end MBP.
I would like to save some money but damm only $300 more... aargghh

I think i must have let it over heat and from what i'm gathering the glue has peeled off. I need to take it into my mac store but do you think they will do this without a fuss as ive already had to pay and extra £50 for a new lead (still in guarentee) as it was faulty and I do not want to keep spending money on this.

I have a 15" Mac Book Pro that I bought in May of 2011. Especially, when I watch movies or use Skype it gets hot. It's not hot like it can burn me or anything. And I realize they "work" harder when using Skype or watching vids but I was wondering if the computer getting warmer is normal ?

From the time I bought my new Macbook in Mid-February, it gets hot over small stuff.... and starts getting way hot when i start playing any game like CivilisationV, Sims3 etc.Sometimes its CPU temperature reaches ~93 degrees Celsius and Fan Speen reaches 6500 rpm according to istat pro of Dashboard, and it gets difficult to even rest my palm on the sides of touchpad and keypad.. I contacted customer care here, and they said to make a backup cuz they will put Lion again.. Is it Operating System's fault? Dirt's Fault? Manufacturer defect? or is it Normal? My Charger adapter also gets wayy too much hot after around 20 minutes that I cudnt even touch it!Â

I am new to macs. I just bought a used macbook air, and realized 3 screws were missing from the bottom, I called all the local repair shops, no one has screws for it. I would really like to get the screws. Longer ones by the fan I am more concerned about, where could I order them from without getting a while set for like $40? It is out of warranty so apple will not give me the screws.

I have a Macbook from 2008 that I've had for just under two years now. The bottom row of keys (zxcvbnm,.) often do not register my keystrokes. For example I would push the keys and nothing would happen on screen. Its never been near water, I haven't had the need to clean it with a sponge or anything since I've had it.
I was wondering if Apple could replace my keyboard if I sent it in. I'm unsure since the keys actually work about a third of the time what the best (and least expensive) route to take is.

My girlfriend's MacBook has some deep scratches on the bottom that a polish kit would not fix. I wanted to buy a new bottom cover and replace it for her. I have found quite a few on eBay, but I am not sure on which model will fit. She has the new white NVIDIA MacBook. I assume that because the motherboard is different, would she need a case specific for the NVIDIA model, or will an older Core 2 Duo case work all the same?
