Since a couple of days, my screen (iMac 27" mid 2011) turns off. Also, half of the screen looks darker. Is it a hardware problem or maybe can be solved by software?

At the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

I have an iMac 27". The left half of my screen started flickering, and now it is quite darker than the right side (facing my computer). Do I have to bring it in to the store or is there a fix?

My IMac screen keeps changing brightness as I use it, currently the LHS of the screen is not as bright as the right. Â

Switched the machine on today to notice that the left side of the screen is darker than the right. I have put the brightness on full to confirm this. Is it possible the LED backlight is failing?

My Air's screen is slightly darker at the bottom (only on a few millimeters, but still). It only happens on a white/light background though (I don't have my dock at the bottom). In comparison, the screen of my MacBook has a very uniform backlight. Does anybody else have this issue?

Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.
My 24' Imac screen went 1/2 black on top the bottom is fine, can I fix this myself?

I got home to find my mac was unresponsive. I thought it had fallen to sleep so i kept pressing keys on the keyboard and clicking the mouse. Nothing happened, I tried everything. So I turned it off by holding down the power button and turned it back on. But then 10 mins later while using it, the screen just instantly turned off! The iMac was still running, it even had the music still playing in the background from iTunes, but again it was unresponsive to my commands. After 1 minute the music turned into an awful static cry for help. So i turned it off. Here i am again on the Mac after turning it back on, but i'm scared it could just go again any second.Â

I started up iTunes, checked my email, and looked up to see the top half of my display drop about 15 shades darker than the bottom half! I called Apple Care who told me they had never heard of something like this before and advised me to call the nearest Apple Store. I did, and like Apple Care, they had never heard of this happening.

I can see the whole picture when moving the mouse a little but as soon as the navigation bar disappears the right half of the picture disappears too. It does not matter what source it is. Both podcasts and movies work (or do not work) the same.Â
The problem doesn't occur for other player (VLC, XBMC etc.).Â

I had so far been using it with screen brightness level set at 7 bars out of 16.But, since the past few days, I've noticed that 7 bars is too dark. I have to set the level at 9 or 10 bars to feel comfortable.Nothing else in the MBP settings or the environment have changed. I don't use any of the auto dimming features.I'm wondering whether it's the MBP or my eyes that are deteriorating.Has anyone experienced or heard of gradual dimming of MBP screens over time? The last solution the store tried was to replace the Airport Card, but that didn't work. Computer was purchased in December 2011.

So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

I could not install OS X because every time I turned the machine on it would shut down in less than a minute at the grey screen and Apple logo - whether the disk was in the slot or not. I finally was able to install Snow Leopard via firewire from a Macbook Pro. It runs fine - but I can only access the iMac Snow Leopard installation from the Macbook Pro. When I turn on the iMac, it still shuts down every time. The new drive was formatted with the Disk Utility as an external drive - since I couldn't get to it while it was in the iMac. My Snow Leopard disk was a full version, not an upgrade.

I was testing out the MBA 13" and 11" again. My main goal was to see how much faster Flash & SSD are in comparison to HDD. It's so fast at restarting and booting. However I noticed something strange. Both units had darker tint towards the edge of the screens. I know colour shift happens with TN panels, but not like this?

Macbook pro intel core duo. My macbook is turned off, when I press the power button the light goes on and the computer starts making sounds of turning on for about half a second and than shuts off. I tried removing the battery and putting it again, I tried to hold the power button (the light flickers at one point and eventually shuts off as well after 2 seconds), and tried turning it on with the adapter plugged in and unplugged.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2007 2.2ghz MBP. It seems that the video cable is failing, as I often open it up from sleep and get only half an image on the screen. Image capture does not capture this, so I know that it is hardware related. It does not happen on my external monitor.
It is getting more frequent, and has been going on for about a month, The warranty expired in late September (lucky me!)
When I turned on my computer this morning the display was off center and could only see one half on the screen and the other half was black and all the colors were off lIke all the things that are normally blue were a weird reddish orangey color.
