Switched the machine on today to notice that the left side of the screen is darker than the right. I have put the brightness on full to confirm this. Is it possible the LED backlight is failing?

My IMac screen keeps changing brightness as I use it, currently the LHS of the screen is not as bright as the right. Â

Not long after startup, the display will darken on the left side and stay that way until reboot - still readable, but bothersome .

At the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

My 27" iMac, from the centre to the left side of the screen has a light grey shade whilst the right is normal, at times the screen flickers to normal then go's back to the light grey shade.

My rev. A MBA has been having this little issue in the picture for a couple of days now. Most of the time at the top, and sometimes covering the left side. It does it on both my cinema display and the built in.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new base 15" MBP, running 10.6.2. At a glance, everything runs just fine. However, SMCFanControl 2.2.2 can only read "LeftSide Fan". As if the Right Side Fan doesn't exist.
Well, it could be that the app is at fault, but I worry if there is a hardware problem. Is there any quick way to check whether the right side fan is ok? I'm wondering how uniform the backlighting is on everyone's mid-2010 MBPs. The screen on mine is sort of a gradient, with the screen becoming progressively brighter towards the left side. There are also what appear to be columns where the screen is slightly darker than the surrounding area. This makes it annoying to read in low-light conditions because the left side of the screen will be at a comfortable level when the right side is slightly too dim, or the other extreme. I absolutely cannot stand dead/hot pixels though which makes me hesitant to have the screen replaced. I just bought the notebook a week ago but I don't want it replaced, as I installed a Moshi PalmGuard before I noticed the screen issues. I also installed an InvisibleShield but I can have that replaced at no cost.

I went and bought a new IMac today from my local apple shop. I get it home and it has a really annoying dead pixel on the left hand side of the screen.

I have 2 pictures which i snapped with my iPhone, so i will link you too them.
The line is not majorly visible, but it is just annoying considering i payed �1000 for this iMac.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's only today that I noticed my MacBook's right speaker is considerably louder than the one on the left. I opened Sound panel in System Preferences to see if the balance was off, but it was set at dead center. Then, I dragged the balance slider all the way to the left to see if the sound coming from the left speaker was okay at all. Well, it sure isn't. Very muffled, muddy sound. No highs at all. Dragging the slider to the right side reveals a very different sound texture. Very crisp, as it should be. Really weird. Anybody else experiencing this odd speaker behaviour?
I googled for this problem and found this thread, right here on Mac Forums. It's a thread for the MacBook Pros, though. The people with a MacBook Pro think it's because there's a subwoofer on the right side. Well, the MacBook doesn't have a subwoofer, so it can't be that. Any ideas? Is it repair time?
By the way, I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook, the 2,4GHz model.
I have only recently started noticing this, it is mostly visible on the white screen at boot up but just faintly noticed it now against my background.
It is a fading black line going down the left hand side of the screen, it starts at the top kind of fades in the middle then comes out again.
I honestly have no idea what this is, i will try catch a picture on my phone soon and post it up.

UPDATE: Sometimes the line is clear, sometimes it is faint and even sometimes it isn't even there!
I tried to use some software to test the display. I found when the screen goes to completely dark with the backlight on, the bottom side of my screen is brighter than other parts.... have u guys met any problem like that, or is this some problem with my MBA?

My Air's screen is slightly darker at the bottom (only on a few millimeters, but still). It only happens on a white/light background though (I don't have my dock at the bottom). In comparison, the screen of my MacBook has a very uniform backlight. Does anybody else have this issue?

So with the final release of iOS 4.2.1, I decided to uninstall and install the final version of iTunes. All went well with the uninstall/install, except that I noticed that in the left side bar, there is no selection for my Apps. Is this normal?

I noticed that....on SMC Fan Control...it only shows that I have a "Left Side" fan. Are Macbook Pros suppose to have only 1 fan ? Or is mine not functioning? Here is a screenshot [URL].
