MacBook Pro :: Black Monitor Screen / Sleeping?

Dec 27, 2010

Yesterday I was watching a film from an external hdisk with VSL program.I had connected my Macbook pro to my LCd tv with a DVI/HDMI cable. When the film finished i went to another room to do something and when i came back the monitor and the tv were black . I pressed the esc key but nothing.I pressed the power button off and on again but nothing. The mac is sleeping.I disconnected the battery but nothing.

My Macbookpro is three years old and this is the first time that i have a problem.I tested a lot of combination of keys ,something like the ctrl+alt+del in PC but nothing.

MacBook Air :: Thunderbolt Monitor Black Screen Windows 7?

Jun 4, 2012

About half a year ago I got a Macbook Air, and a Thuderbolt monitor. Then I installed Windows 7 64-bit on it. Everything worked fine until recently the Thunderbolt monitor started to go black during Windows startup without any particular reason. Using OS/X the monitor works fine. I already scanned for malware and viruses but cannot fine any. Windows restore refuses to work? I also tried several different boot options, installed latest drivers, reinstalled bootcamp drivers but no luck so far.

MacBook Pro :: Recognizes External Monitor But Only Display Black Screen

May 11, 2012

I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest version of Lion. I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.

Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.

MacBook :: Unibody Display - Connected To External Monitor - Black Screen

May 7, 2010

Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.

IMac :: Secondary Monitor Not Working - Only Shows Black Screen

Jun 10, 2010

24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.

Hardware :: G5 - While Browsing An Excel Spreadsheet Part Of The Screen Turned Black Then Monitor Shut Off

Oct 21, 2008

My father owns one of the original G5s, so its power pc not intel. Today while browsing an excel spreadsheet he says part of the screen turned black, then the monitor shut off, then the monitor came back on but not video. Mean while the fans started spinning out of control. Now when he tries to turn it on, he gets power, but all that happens is the fans spinning faster and faster and faster until he turns it off. No video or anything. Just speeding fans. He fears the CPUs died since they control the fans. Any suggestions? He also says the fans were spinning unusually fast these last few days.

OS X :: Second Monitor On IMac Not Sleeping Properly

Jun 25, 2009

I have a second monitor (Dell 20 inch widescreen) hooked up to my 24 inch iMac, and while I'm running windows, when the iMac monitor sleeps, it sleeps. But, in Leopard (v10.5.7) whenever the iMac monitor sleeps, the secondary monitor does what a monitor usually does when the video cable is unplugged (does the whole factory test thing with the box of red/green/blue randomly moving around.) Is there any way to make it sleep?

OS X :: Monitor Suddenly Goes Completely White / External Monitor Goes Black

Jul 30, 2005

I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).

The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.

MacBook Pro :: The Monitor Was Black Apart From The Cusor?

Jun 30, 2010

This afternoon I was on my MacBook pro and had to pop out so I shut down the lid as always. When I came back and opened the lid back up, all I saw on the monitor was black apart from the cusor. So I couldn't get it to shut down in any way, I hit the power button and then back on. All I was greeted with was a grey screen with not even an apple logo. I read that I needed to boot up from the installation disk and did that. On disk utilities disk 0s2 is greyed out - I tried to repair the disk but it says 'disk utility cant repair this disk'The 500gb hitachi drive has a smart status of read/wrote.Is this normal?

External Monitor Compaq W185q

I'm using an external Monitor (Compaq W185q) and everything's ok until I open certain webs, this websites have banners on both sides mostly, so I think that's important to tell. After couple seconds on those sites, the monitor starts flickering and then it turns black, completely. To make it work, I launch Mission Control and it starts working again, I drag the safari window back to my MBA's monitor, and problem solved.

Hardware :: Using Samsung SyncMaster T240 - Screen Sleeping?

Nov 27, 2009

I had two of these screens connected to my 2009 MacPro, one to the Ati 4870 and the other to GeForce GT120. I was using them both together mounthes and was happy with them until this morning, when I woke my computer from slee[, I thought that my ther screen was sleeping or may be I had maximized a streaming youtube video while sleeping and it ended and it was the black screen I thought, so I pressed escape to get rid of full size mode but I noticed that the screen was working, but it was hardly noticeable, I mean, everything is all black as if the screen is turned off. I can very hardly see the wallpaper. The Problem is that when I turn it on, the screen is as it should be for 1 second then goes back to like this, even when I click on settings of the screen from the side buttons, they are dark too but I arrived to check the settings and brightness and contrast are on maximum.. and the problem is that I bought the screens when I was in France and now I am in italy, I dont know what to do.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: IMac Screen Went Black - Starts Up With Black Display

May 24, 2012

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

MacBook Pro :: Faint Mark Of Light Color On Black Screen / Nothing Visible When Screen Is Off

Jan 4, 2010

I have a problem with my screen - when there is something black on, I can see a faint mark of a lighter colour. I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.

No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?

MacBook Pro :: Monitor Display Not Working Fine / Horizontal Scan Lines And Black Out Occasionally

Jul 9, 2009

So I had a recently purchased 17" BTO with the 7200RPM drive that worked great, but with one issue - the display would have horizontal scan lines and black out occasionally. So I called up Apple and eventually managed to get a cross-ship set up(they let me hold on to my current unit, charge my credit card and send me a second brand new 17" unit as a replacement, and then refund me for the second 17" after I send back the defective unit).

Anyway, the replacement unit looks great, but with one issue - there's a very small light dent on the bottom panel(maybe about the size of a dime). I was annoyed but don't think this is worth having to exchange, since I could probably just unscrew the panel and pop it back into place.

However, what really got to me was the fact that my replacement unit was slightly louder than my original - my original is so silent that I can't even tell it's on. However, with my replacement unit, I can hear the hard drive spinning, which is slightly annoying.

Anyway, I proceeded to restore from a time machine backup and test my replacement unit when I noticed that it would occasionally get the hard drive click + beep + freeze issue that many others who have the 7200 RPM drive seem to be facing. It's extremely annoying, and more importantly I miss the complete silence of my older unit.

My question is, while I'm still in possession of both units(which both have the exact same specs, same 7200 RPM drive, etc.), should I simply just open both up and take the silent(good) hard drive from my old unit and put it into my new one?

The click+beep freeze issue is really pissing me off, and my old unit didn't suffer from it - it's just this replacement one(doesn't make any sense).Anyway, would notice if I switched the hard drive? Would I get screwed somehow? Do they keep track of the hard drive serials or something?

I really don't want to go through the pain of sending this back, especially considering that a LOT of people are suffering from this issue, and I don't want to end up with another defective drive. I'm sick and tired of games and just want a computer that WORKS.
