Is is possible to use MacBook Pro as a External Monitor for a Mac Pro Tower ??If you have a DVI to DVI cable, then would it work connecting the 2 computers together ?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.
I bought a Macbook pro 13 inch today. I noticed that there are small black dots (maybe small puncture holes) on the top of the lid - about the size of a dead pixel.

The screen randomly turns black without any major reasons. It doesn't seem to be a sleep mode/screen saver thing as the music continues to play on. I can adjust the volume or pause the music with the keyboard but the screen just won't turn back on. I have to shut it down using the power button and it happened several time the last couple days. Anyone else experience the same thing and got a solution?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2010 model i7 processor is having problems when I close the lid and the computer goes to sleep. Heres how my problem is occouring. I close my macbook pro lid. After waiting about 10 min (my macbook sleep time) I lift the lid. Once I do this i see the screen.... for about 2 seconds and it suddenly goes black. I fix it by turning my brightness down 1 bar then turning it back up 1 bar. I dont remeber this happening on snow leopard it seems to be a lion issue and a lot of other users are having it.

I have an old PC monitor that I want to connect to my new 27 inch iMac, it's the latest edition, the one that doesn't have any mini display ports. All I have are four USB 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. A link would be most helpful, surley that are more people with the same problem.

My November 2011 17" MacBook Proi has on several occasions gone to a black screen, which requires hard shutdown and re-boot. It happens in two ways: coming out of sleep, the screen appears for a second and then goes black, and sometimes when jjust using the Mac.Â
It comes back on after re-boot with no apparent problems but seems to be occuring more frequently, so I need to get this fixed.Â

I'm going to change my ACD 23" with the 30" but I need to know for sure if I can still use me Macbook Pro in a 30" display. Since is a bigger resolution I would like to know if the performance will be equal with tthe 23"...
My Macbook Pro has this graphic card... can it handle a 30" monitor?
Just bought a new MacBook (OSX 10.6.1 w/4GB RAM) and ViewSonic 22" monitor. When I hooked it up (via DVI) and loaded the VewSonic drivers, I got the max resolution of 1920 x 1080. Earlier today, I came back and woke up my MacBook - and got only a snowy screen on the monitor and couldn't get anything on the laptop. Restarted and now, even though the display shows 1920 x 1080, it is not providing that resolution. The max for the laptop shows 1280 x 800 and that is about what is showing on the monitor as well. I keep resetting the resolution on the monitor at 1920 x 1080 - but the screen size doesn't change.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis afternoon I was on my MacBook pro and had to pop out so I shut down the lid as always. When I came back and opened the lid back up, all I saw on the monitor was black apart from the cusor. So I couldn't get it to shut down in any way, I hit the power button and then back on. All I was greeted with was a grey screen with not even an apple logo. I read that I needed to boot up from the installation disk and did that. On disk utilities disk 0s2 is greyed out - I tried to repair the disk but it says 'disk utility cant repair this disk'The 500gb hitachi drive has a smart status of read/wrote.Is this normal?

My Macbookpro is three years old and this is the first time that i have a problem.I tested a lot of combination of keys ,something like the ctrl+alt+del in PC but nothing.
I set my screen's resolution to 800x600 in order to play a newly downloaded game demo (Jets N'Guns). The screen went black and will not reset after trying many things:

I also have bootcamp installed and use the same adapter on the Windows XP side and it works fine in full color out to a TV with the same adapter.Â

Last couple of days my emac monitor will just shut down and go black, just like an old TV tube packing up used to. It won't return on restart, but did return a couple of times after I took out mains lead from side of computer, let it rest, then tried again. However, today, this solution didn't work, but a tap to the side of the computer did get the screen going. I've read a number of different possible explanations for what might be the problem - everything from battery, to airport card to it's terminally ill, get a new computer, so don't really know what to do. Don't want to go and buy a new computer if all I really needed to do was change the battery.

About half a year ago I got a Macbook Air, and a Thuderbolt monitor. Then I installed Windows 7 64-bit on it. Everything worked fine until recently the Thunderbolt monitor started to go black during Windows startup without any particular reason. Using OS/X the monitor works fine. I already scanned for malware and viruses but cannot fine any. Windows restore refuses to work? I also tried several different boot options, installed latest drivers, reinstalled bootcamp drivers but no luck so far. Â

I calibrated my monitor today and now my menu bar is completely black. If I put the mouse there then I can see the items in white. Also, the titles above the icons in the dock are black. In addition, all the menus from the different programs are black also. How to get the normal menu bar, etc. back.

I'm using an external Monitor (Compaq W185q) and everything's ok until I open certain webs, this websites have banners on both sides mostly, so I think that's important to tell. After couple seconds on those sites, the monitor starts flickering and then it turns black, completely. To make it work, I launch Mission Control and it starts working again, I drag the safari window back to my MBA's monitor, and problem solved. Â

24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my older MBP (2007) for a MBP, 2GHz, Core i7 with thunder bolt. I normally connect to my external monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster B2230HD. This worked perfectly for my needs. I connect my MBP via a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter.Â
Display resolution:Â
VGA (External Monitor) 1920x1080 60 Hz
MBP Display 1440 x 900Â
Problem: Now with the new MBP, I get a black stripe on the left on side. (See pic)Â Â
Troubleshooting Steps:
a) Replacement VGA Cable
b) Replacement Mini Display Port Adapter
c) Tried a HDMI cable (worked but with disminish resolution and a yellow tint)
d) Adjusted both MBP and Samsung display settings include Auto Adjust.Â
I determined that the monitor is okay because the screen is filled with a lower resolution and "mirror display".
Do not want a nuisance to escalate into a serious problem thru benign neglect. Random black screen -- Turn monitor off then on, and all comes back fine. No loss of power in machine, no fan quirks, no overheating. Is it the Monitor? or the graphics card?

I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest version of Lion. I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.
Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.

After moving I setup the Mini, but got nothing from the monitor. Reset PRAM & PMU, nothing. CPU chimes, etc.work, but the only thing I get from the monitor is a yellow square with a brief message indicating there's no signal.
It's a Mini, 2 MB RAM, Core 2, OSX10.5.x, it's less than a year old. The CPU appears to be OK. Monitor is getting power.
Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I had a recently purchased 17" BTO with the 7200RPM drive that worked great, but with one issue - the display would have horizontal scan lines and black out occasionally. So I called up Apple and eventually managed to get a cross-ship set up(they let me hold on to my current unit, charge my credit card and send me a second brand new 17" unit as a replacement, and then refund me for the second 17" after I send back the defective unit).
Anyway, the replacement unit looks great, but with one issue - there's a very small light dent on the bottom panel(maybe about the size of a dime). I was annoyed but don't think this is worth having to exchange, since I could probably just unscrew the panel and pop it back into place.
However, what really got to me was the fact that my replacement unit was slightly louder than my original - my original is so silent that I can't even tell it's on. However, with my replacement unit, I can hear the hard drive spinning, which is slightly annoying.
Anyway, I proceeded to restore from a time machine backup and test my replacement unit when I noticed that it would occasionally get the hard drive click + beep + freeze issue that many others who have the 7200 RPM drive seem to be facing. It's extremely annoying, and more importantly I miss the complete silence of my older unit.
My question is, while I'm still in possession of both units(which both have the exact same specs, same 7200 RPM drive, etc.), should I simply just open both up and take the silent(good) hard drive from my old unit and put it into my new one?
The click+beep freeze issue is really pissing me off, and my old unit didn't suffer from it - it's just this replacement one(doesn't make any sense).Anyway, would notice if I switched the hard drive? Would I get screwed somehow? Do they keep track of the hard drive serials or something?
I really don't want to go through the pain of sending this back, especially considering that a LOT of people are suffering from this issue, and I don't want to end up with another defective drive. I'm sick and tired of games and just want a computer that WORKS.
My father owns one of the original G5s, so its power pc not intel. Today while browsing an excel spreadsheet he says part of the screen turned black, then the monitor shut off, then the monitor came back on but not video. Mean while the fans started spinning out of control. Now when he tries to turn it on, he gets power, but all that happens is the fans spinning faster and faster and faster until he turns it off. No video or anything. Just speeding fans. He fears the CPUs died since they control the fans. Any suggestions? He also says the fans were spinning unusually fast these last few days.
