MacBook Pro mid-2009
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Software: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
This evening I woke my computer up and the first thing I noticed was the background image had changed.
Then navigating through my folders, all files have been removed except for *some" of the following file types:
Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, CeltX, Final Draft, InDesign.
Files I know were there this morning and are no longer there are: PDF, MOV, TXT, and others.
When I "get info" on one of the folders that used to be populated with files, the first file size that shows is the original (i.e. 2.3 gigs) but it quickly updates to the new size of an empty folder (6 mb).
I have checked to make sure I am still logged in as the correct user, I have reset the PRAM, I have reindexed finder, I have verified and repaired the disk and verified disk permissions. I have used Terminal to show all hidden files, and none of these things have worked. No, I do not have a backup that I can restore from.

OS X Mavericks :: All Files And Folders Disappeared From Computer After Auto Sleep
Aug 29, 2014I was working on curriculum changes for an online ecollege course. Stepped away for dinner and left machine on (MacBook Pro, running OSX 10.9.4). Have done this frequently and the light show screen saver appears, so I tap it to give my password and it returns to where I left off. But, last night, I returned and the connection to the college/university server had been cut and now Safari is taking me back through security and cookie changes I already made. When I tried to shut down the system under the Apple menu, I got an error box indicting that if I shut down all my files would be deleted. When I tried again, it informed me that I was logged in as a guest user and shutting down would result in the permanent deletion of my files. So, I let the damned thing run and it's still running because when I looked up, all folders and files had disappeared from my desktop -- even some of the applications (like Word) had also disappeared. I want my files back and I want to shut this down safely.

Mac Pro :: Computer Is Sluggish When Using IMovie And Aperture
Feb 19, 2012I have a mac pro dual quad core 2.26 ghz intel xeon with 12 gb 1066 mhz ddr3 of memory.
When I share my imovue slide shows to itunes I have to shut down imovie at least once and sometimes twice.
I keep getting a "not enough memory" error mesage that instructs me to shut down imovie.

Sep 2, 2014My hard drive recently crashed, and I had to get a new one. When I got my computer back (from the reputable third party I had fix it), it was updated to mavericks. I guess the things on the drive couldn't be recovered, which is alright. I had most of it backed up. But I no longer have iphoto or imovie on the computer. I'm not sure why that is, and I checked the "purchases" folder in the appstore. There's nothing to download there. Is there some other way I can get my software back?

Software :: Unable To Drag Video Onto Existing IMovie / Camcorder Not Recognized By Computer
Dec 10, 2008My daughter recorded something on iMovie, but she wanted to import some video she took from our camcorder. She put the video on a DVD but she can't seem to drag the video onto her existing iMovie.
I called Apple's support service and they suggested I try loading the video directly from the camcorder but they couldn't help me with that as it's not an Apple product (the camcorder is a: Sony) They suggested to put the camcorder on some type of mode that the computer could recognize????
The other suggestion they made was to get a third party application that can "rip" the images from the DVD so it can be imported into iMovie. Again, they couldn't help me because it's not their product.
I'm not very really familiar with any of these things so I was hoping someone would be willing to help me figure it.

Jun 8, 2009i also can't click on anything on the desktop, the only thing that is there and works are the words on the top, stopping at help. Also after every word i write, a pop up says 'alert cannot contact spell checker,' When i open safari i also cannot get it back to finder, and i can't search anything on the computer because after the second letter the screen flashes.
It started this morning i tried to write something in stickies and the computer went crazy to a blue screen and the loading circle started spinning around so i shut it down, when i loaded it up i had all these problems.
I have iBook g4 from 2005. What should i do, i don't know anything about computers. I tried searching online i tried to use killall Dock in terminal it didn't work, it said no matching processes were found.

However when I import this project file into iMovie 8 I cannot find the final edited film anywhere, just all the clips that were both used and unused within the project file.
How can I get the final film back without spending about a week re-editing everything?

Jan 16, 2010So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.
Applications :: Won't Import Imovie Project Files Into Imovie / Not Recognizing Files
May 8, 2009So, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

MacBook Pro :: Can't View Time Machine Backups From Old Computer On New Computer
Sep 7, 2014My macbook pro laptop recently died and I am trying to access its time machine backup data through Finder on a different computer. In each one of my folders from different dates, however, the majority of the computer folders I would like to access (i.e. desktop, documents, dropbox, etc) have a little red "no" sign in the corner and prompt the following message when selected:
"The folder “FolderName” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents"
How can I gain permission to see its contents? As the former user, I know whatever passwords are restricting these files, but I don't know how/where to go to give permission to these folders. I've tried going into Disk Utility and changing the permissions there, but to no avail, despite successful changing of the "Sharing & Permissions" to "Read & Write" for all listed accounts.
I'm currently trying to view this on an imac OSX 10.6.8. The dead MacBook pro ran OSX

MacBook :: Serial Number Disappeared?
Mar 22, 2009Today when I tried to find the serial number of my MacBook in "About This Mac" and System Profiler it says Serial Number System Sal#. I haven't replaced the logic board or had any service done and I'm wondering why it would suddenly disappear like this. My MacBook also has not been "sleeping" when the battery gets low, the computer just shuts off without the low power sleep state it usually goes into around ~1% battery left.

Sep 17, 2009I just got a new macbook pro. I am trying to blue tooth my music and album artwork over to it from my old macbook. When the Artwork was transferring, it transferred before the music, it stopped right before it got done and I got the beach ball. Bluetooth file exchange turned off, so I thought maybe it just got hung up and tried the transfer again. Again Bluetooth file exchange quit right before completing the transfer of album artwork and a message popped up saying I had low memory on my hard drive. I started the process with about 24GB free on the HD, I watched it go from about 5MB yes MB down to 2MB within seconds. I restarted the computer and it went back up to 3.7 and I watched it drop to 3.5MB. All of this fluctuation continued even after the transfer quit and bluetooth file exchange closed. I don't think any other programs were open.
What just happened? Is my new computer in any kind danger since I was transferring files from the old which had the problem?
How can I tell where all this space was taken up so I can delete whatever is taking it up?

Jul 22, 2010While trying to enable my Microsoft Office 2008 to allow me to enter a new code I pasted a rm command into the terminal, as directed by someone in a forum. I think it may have wiped out my desktop because now the entire desktop is gone.
Will Diskwarrior help me with this or is it a lost cause?
All my music and photo files are fine, it is just everything that was on the desktop, which was a lot.
