MacBook :: Fades Out To Black After 1-2 Minutes?
Jun 12, 2010After a while of not touching the macbook, I would say about 1-2 minutes the macbook fades out to black, could someone please tell me how to hut ths feature off?

Mar 15, 2012My macbook has a new bad habit of being slow, too many pinwheel timeouts and now the screen fades to white and must be rebooted to work for 5-10 minutes. My research so far indicates a bad wiring between the screen and base or overheating.

MacBook Pro :: Mavericks Screen Fades White
Jun 27, 2014I'm using macbook pro 13" late 2012 (2.5 GHz, 8GB RAM), with mavericks. As from the last week, the screen fades to white as shows in the attached picture.
At first, the phenomenon occurred just for parts of the screen - the area below windows got a mark of that window after I closed it with a faded white color. Now it's all the screen.
Notably, the colors on a second screen I tried to connect via thunderbolt are normal. However, I do believe that it's not an harder problem as it sometimes works properly - when I waked it up today it was normal for a few minutes.
I'm tried restarting, reseting SMC & PRAM and logging in with new user account, without success.

I am thinking of buying a 20" Apple Display that is 4 Years old for the price of $270. However, I am concerned with the color fades or if the ACD might break within the next year.
Also, do YOU think Apple will update the Cinema displays at Macworld (and that I should wait) or even provide an adapter to work with old Macbook Pros and other Macs?

Sep 16, 2009My router is a Linksys WRT54GS (neutered, version 6) which is running firmware version 1.52.7; this router is less than 25 feet away, across the hallway, with minimal physical obstruction, and I have taken off all security measures on said network. iStumbler has found no signal interference (that I can interpret). Two Windows PCs have been able to keep a solid signal over the course of the last three days, but the MacBook's signal drops after about 10 to 15 minutes.

A friend suggested turning the power off and back on, holding apple+ctrl+P+R, which worked.However, the next time I turned my computer on, the screen stayed white again, without an Apple logo. Can you tell me what the deal is? Should I bother reporting this to Apple? Is this permanent damage I'm going to have to go thru everytime I start me laptop?

May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. Nov 4, 2010I have a 13" MBP which I bought a few months ago. Everything works fine, battery life is wonderful, it couldn't be better. A few weeks ago it began "chiming" about every 20 minutes. One single tone - not a beep - more like the chime from a tuning fork. No message is displayed on the screen when it occurs. Sometimes it happens when I'm using the machine (normally web browsing). Other times it chimes when the screen is closed down and I'm re-charging. It doesn't happen when I start up. I've even checked to make sure there are no other browsing screens opened in the background.

Aug 31, 2009I have an old MBP (2.16 GHZ); 2 Gigs of Ram and 120 Gig hard-drive. I have used my battery a handful of times since I got it, and now when I try to run off of battery power, it says it is fully charged, but after unplugging it, it dies about 3-5 minutes later. I remove the battery after the shut down happens, press to button on the bottom and all five green lights are lit indicating it is full. I really can't afford a new battery... And it doesn't seem like it is the battery anyway.

Jan 25, 2010I've got a white macbook 2.16 I believe. The screen/display will turn on when booted up, but only stay on a few minutes. I got it off craigslist this way. When I first got it, it wouldn't come on at all. I replaced the inverter with one I got off ebay that was probably used. I have tried 4 different inverters in it (all used I think) they all respond the same way. Screen comes on for just a few minutes then the light goes black. If I disconnect the power to the inverter after it shuts off, then reconnect it, it will light up again for a couple seconds only. If I leave it alone, it will come back on after about 20 minutes.
Does this sound like I have a bunch of bad inverters, or a bad lcd screen? It also drives an external monitor flawlessly the whole time and keeps an image displayed on the screen even when the light dies.

May 19, 2010I have noticed another weird MBP 2010 bug. I have the 15" i5. The cursor disappears for a few minutes sometimes. I haven't noticed what card is on and I've been doing just random stuff. I mouse around and click around and after a few minutes it comes back. The keyboard responds normally. Everything else is normal. The cursor just completely takes a vacation for a few minutes. The really weird thing is, is I've seen this several times in Windows XP SP3 in BootCamp as well! Maybe it's the crap NVIDIA driver.
