I have a 13" MBP which I bought a few months ago. Everything works fine, battery life is wonderful, it couldn't be better. A few weeks ago it began "chiming" about every 20 minutes. One single tone - not a beep - more like the chime from a tuning fork. No message is displayed on the screen when it occurs. Sometimes it happens when I'm using the machine (normally web browsing). Other times it chimes when the screen is closed down and I'm re-charging. It doesn't happen when I start up. I've even checked to make sure there are no other browsing screens opened in the background.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased my MBA last night and let it charge over night. This morning my battery decreased to 97% within the first 3 minutes. It is now at 87% and it's been only 10 minutes. Is this normal? I haven't done any cycling yet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old MBP (2.16 GHZ); 2 Gigs of Ram and 120 Gig hard-drive. I have used my battery a handful of times since I got it, and now when I try to run off of battery power, it says it is fully charged, but after unplugging it, it dies about 3-5 minutes later. I remove the battery after the shut down happens, press to button on the bottom and all five green lights are lit indicating it is full. I really can't afford a new battery... And it doesn't seem like it is the battery anyway.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got a white macbook 2.16 I believe. The screen/display will turn on when booted up, but only stay on a few minutes. I got it off craigslist this way. When I first got it, it wouldn't come on at all. I replaced the inverter with one I got off ebay that was probably used. I have tried 4 different inverters in it (all used I think) they all respond the same way. Screen comes on for just a few minutes then the light goes black. If I disconnect the power to the inverter after it shuts off, then reconnect it, it will light up again for a couple seconds only. If I leave it alone, it will come back on after about 20 minutes.
Does this sound like I have a bunch of bad inverters, or a bad lcd screen? It also drives an external monitor flawlessly the whole time and keeps an image displayed on the screen even when the light dies.
I have noticed another weird MBP 2010 bug. I have the 15" i5. The cursor disappears for a few minutes sometimes. I haven't noticed what card is on and I've been doing just random stuff. I mouse around and click around and after a few minutes it comes back. The keyboard responds normally. Everything else is normal. The cursor just completely takes a vacation for a few minutes. The really weird thing is, is I've seen this several times in Windows XP SP3 in BootCamp as well! Maybe it's the crap NVIDIA driver.

I have a MBP running 10.7.3. All of a sudden it loses 55 GB of hard disk space in a couple minutes. I start getting pop-up warnings about space. Then, if I clean a couple files (maybe 1GB) worth, the free sapce begins to return. Then it heads back down again. Literally 10 GB in a couple minutes.

For a while I've been having trouble streaming videos on my MacBook Air. Regardless of what browser I use, after 10 or 15 minutes, the video begins to lag. I have 15GB of hard drive left (out of 80) and 2GB of RAM. When I've looked at the activity monitor, the flash player or Silverlight uses up all of the CPU.

The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes. It sounds like all the low end is removed. I still hear audio but it is MUCH lower and sounds filtered. I can barely hear it maxed out. Nothing attached (no external drives, no speakers, etc) and it's only a few days old.

Skype stops working after 20 minutes - the other person can hear me fine, but I cant understand a word the other person is saying (very digitalized). This doesn't happen on the PC so I'm wondering if it's an issue with the MAC. Does anyone have the same problem? Any ideas how to solve it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems that my MB(unibody 2.0Ghz) has some problem. I recently reinstalled leopard (and some softwares). It takes a little bit more than 2 minutes to boot. Worse comes with Windows 7 beta. I tried both 32bit and 64bit versions. It takes more than 5 minutes to boot! I saw some guy showing some comparison of boot time on youtube. It seems that Leopard should take < 1 minute and Windows 7 takes < 2 minutes (with the same hardware!). My MB takes around 3 times more than other MBs. Where should I start? I recently ran memtest and it turns out to be okay. HDD S.M.A.R.T also reports 'verified'. I'm not sure what would be the next.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I got a new White MacBook a few weeks ago, and it isn't sleeping properly. When Im using it and the battery gets low, I get the message that it is running on reserve, and It will go to sleep in a few minutes.I keep using it, and turns off, but the light stays on solid for about 10 seconds while it is copying the RAM to the HD for the "Deep Sleep." Then it just turns off instead of breathing. To wake it back up again I have to plug it in and press the power button. I was under the impression that it is supposed to enter normal sleep (I.E. the same as when you close the lid) when the battery gets low, and only enter "Deep Sleep" if it stays asleep too long and the battery dies completely.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook that is about 2 years old, maybe a little less, and recently it's been giving me trouble. Every time I go online (on firefox or safari), the internet stops working after about 20 minutes. It used to be about every hour but it's more frequent now. To fix it I have to restart. Once I restarted and the internet didn't even work. It's getting to be immensely frustrating since I have to save everything else I'm working on, restart, and then reopen everything. I don't know much about computers but I'm using a wireless that's shared with one other mac and one other pc in the house. Any ideas of what I should do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just not having luck with my last 3 MacBook Pros. My new 2.8ghz 15" now takes over 7 minutes to boot to the login screen. Before this happened, I recently copied 139 GB in sound libraries to my system drive. Before I went to work, I quickly closed the laptop and put in my bag. When I took it out of my bag several hours later, the unit was off and battery practically at full charge. When I started it shortly afterwards, it took forever to boot. It would sit there at the grey screen with the spinning circle, then get to the blue background (just before you get to the login screen) and wait there for a while. Most of the time I think you can hear the hard drive churning.
Once you log on, everything seems to be normal. I'm curious if perhaps that 139GB copy did something to the OS to slow it down. FYI it has 274/ 500 GB of free space left. Perhaps the hard drive didn't have a chance to park when I quickly put the laptop in my bag and I damaged it? To complicate matters, I have the MCE optibay installed with a 320 GB hard drive loaded in it. The only thing I can think of is to back up, and reload the OS. This should tell me if it's software or hardware related.
I just bought a new Kingston snvp325-s2 and its really fast, but only after startup. It takes just under two minutes for the thing to startup and shutdown is about 45 seconds. Now my stock 5400 mac HD was faster... But I have to say the Read/Write times are fine and apps open in a second.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new 17" Unibody MacBook Pro, and recently my AirPort signal cuts off after about 30 minutes. I could just be on Facebook, and I will loose the signal after 30 minutes, and then I got to reselect my network. It becomes very annoying if when I try uploading videos to YouTube, having to start uploading all over about 3 times. I took it to the Genius Bar on Saturday, and they couldn't diagnose the problem, and they said they have to send it out to depot, but i can't afford being without my machine till June. I've tried restoring the default settings on my AirPort base station, but that didn't effect the problem. Could there be a problem with the AirPort card in my machine?

My 3-weeks old Macbook Air is taking almost 10 minutes to get from switch on to the log on screen, it seems to be stuck at the white screen with the Apple logo & the spinning grey wheel. Anybody faced similar problems before? What caused this? I was working with about 7 or 8 different Excel files open at one go and a couple were corrupted (but repaired). I have never experienced anything like this with my i5 iMac and wasn't expecting this on the Macbook Air. Any light at the end of the tunnel?
