I know from reading on here the edges cracking off macbooks was a common issue (mine's from Nov 2007) - I was just wondering if anyone had managed to get it repaired for free outside of warranty? I was considering getting a new macbook in August but if I can get the edges repaired I might go for a new iPhone or iPad instead.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI took my Macbook into the Apple store yesterday, to be repaired for a few cracks i had on it. Looking at the Repair descriptions, I have noticed there a few extra thing the genius must have noticed, and included to be repaired, these are:

Does that mean that I will be getting the whole case, trackpad and keyboard included repaired, or will they just give me a whole new case. I was also told that there was a few hairline cracks around the screen bezel, I could not see them but according to the genius they where there so he included that to be repaired also. How long do repairs usually take, as i have my dissertation due on Friday, and would like my computer back by then.
ive got an 18 month old white SR MacBook, recently im getting quite a few cracks on the casing on the top (around the keyboard), what can i do to stop it cracking further and how much would apple likely charge me to get it fixed? (im in the uk and there are no apple stores near me!) As you can see i nthe pics below to the left hand side of the keyboard is where most of the 'crack' has happened, the whole 'line' actually peels away and pulls off and is literally the thin piece of plastic topping, similar is now starting to happen to the right side (which may not be viewable in the pictures)

Replacing a SECOND failed hard drive on a mid-2007 white macbook (Intel core duo 2.16GHz), this time on my own  Need to purchase a serial ATA drive, but I keep reading that trying to format and/or partition the drive for use with the original Tiger install disk is unsuccessful and that I would have to update to a newer OS before I can do that. I have Leopard as the current OS, and that is in my backup files from Time Machine, but I do not have a disk with Leopard. Wondering the best course of action and/or if someone had success wit ha particular Serial ATA using the Tiger disks?

There's some known documented issues concerning the Nvidia graphics chip in the particular model of macbook pro I have.
Basically when turning on the machine, the screen is filled with black & white horizontal strips like a piano keyboard, but thats it - it doesn't actually boot up fully at all, you cannot hear the hard drive running !
Would the hard drive have anything to do with this ?

On taking the mac to an apple store they ran a special 'firmware' boot up 'test' using an instore ipod to determine if it was a faulty Nvidia chip, so as to prove to Nvidia, the company funding the repairs whether it is that to blame.
Because the machine didn't even boot up & complete the 'test' they couldn't say whether it was the graphics chip - so 'no free repair' under extended warranty & the final answer was as usual ' buy a new logic board' that will cure it !
I've been ghosting here for months, eagerly awaiting the new MacBook with all of you. I now own one (as of Monday morning) and am loving it, except for one thing -- the sharp edges that cut into my wrists while I type! I've read various threads with complaints about this, but haven't seen any suggestions for fixing it (sorry if I missed postings about this elsewhere). My two ideas are either to sand down the edges until they're rounded and smooth, or put something on it (a piece of cloth? glue?)
View 24 Replies View Relatedit's been just over a week now with my refurbished Rev B and I'm noticing the casing is creaky along the edges/seams. Everything is tight and it's not the display. Is this a Rev B thing? My Rev A was super solid and didn't make any noises. I know the internals of the Rev A vs. Rev B were drastically changed and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. It's not bad, I just noticed it and was curious... maybe it's a refurb thing?

I am completely in love with just about every aspect of it except for one pesky thing -- the edges of the aluminum unibody are ridiculously sharp and dig into my wrists after prolonged use. I seriously don't know how this feature ever got passed Apple's design team and the user test trials. Anyway, I've seen some similar posts about this but no one seems to give any good solutions. My question is - does anyone know of any good accessory products (wrist rests, etc...) that would remedy this? The ones I've seen just seem to be palm rest protectors and don't address the actual edges of the computer. Or, does anyone have any ideas for home remedies? I thought of maybe buying some moleskin or foam and applying it over the edge but that would prove to be quite unsightly I'm sure.

The first week I had my Macbook Pro I noticed about 5 or 6 little grey splotches on the right hand edge of the screen. About a month later tons of them had formed on the top edge in a cluster. I didn't take my computer in because it wasn't that noticable, only at an angle. Well it's been 9 months, and there's now spots on the left hand side, and it's spreading. A week ago they started to appear on the bottom on the screen, and all the spots on all the other edges are forming rings around them.
I took it to my tech at our school since they sold us the laptops, and he said the spots were too small for water damage, and that he's never seen anything like it before. So I took it into the apple store THINKING they would replace it, instead they told me it had to be water damage and that was that. I've never spilled anything on this computer, and the spots started the week I got it. No matter how many times i explained the situation to those people, they just kept repeating "I'm not saying that you're lying, but we dont know what was actually done to the computer, we say it's water damage, which isn't covered" and refused to fix it.
Its just a bunch of little grey dots clustered together, some are a little spread out but as the weeks go by it just gets worse.
I'm not really sure what else to do at this point, the apple store obviously wasnt a big help. And I still have no idea what it is, i just know that this computer is extremely important to my schooling, it doesn't get banged around, i dont even eat around it. Has anyone seen anything like this?
I've got a late 2007 SR whitebook 2.2ghz 4gig of ram with intel gma x3100 using Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Last couple months (I think) I've experienced some graphical corruption around the edges of apps (it goes black mostly but sometimes looks like lots of lines) it also happens in expose around the windows, also on dock icons. It happened in 10.6.2 and now 10.6.3, its not happening at the moment which is annoying as i can't show you, my macbook seems to run very hot (well it feels hot underneath though the iStat dashboard shows it idling cpu at 57 degrees c).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to MBP 13'' (2010), just 3 weeks now, and it's my first laptop, so I don't know if this is just normal or not. I have noticed there are several marks on screen appears to be from keyboard edges, say where the "E" key supposed to meet the screen. Looks like small spot scratches, but fortunately they came off when I clean them with damped cloth. It came back after I use and close/open the lid, same spots I think. New MBP design looks like the keys should not touch the screen, but it appears to be keep touching while lid is closed? What about yours, can you see marks when the screen is turned off? Or I may need to worry about screen protection? (if I do cleaning often the same spots I guess it may scratch eventually?)
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2011/early2012 MBP running OSX 10.7.3 (build 11D50d) and All of a sudden my trackpad is playing up. I can move the cursor from all places of the trackpad apart from the bottom corners - but I can only click in the center of the pad. However I can touch click in most places (apart from bottom corners). Does anybody know how to fix this? Â
I've only had my MacBook Pro for 4 weeks now, I've not dropped it, knocked it or spilt anything on it, so this is pretty disappointing to say the least. I've seen a bunch of videos on youtube where people are taking their MBP apart and tightening a screw to fix the problem. My warranty is still valid and I have AppleCare so I don't want to be voiding either of those by taking it a apart and messing about inside.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Kanex iAdapt so I can use my TV as a secondary display. It works but there are a few annoying problems.
1) When I set the display output to any of the available resolutions (480p.720P.1080i) the picture is displayed - however the edges are cut off resulting in about 5 % of the picture being lost. this means that the taskbar on my mac is barely visible.Any ideas on why this is happening and how i can get it fixed?
2)This is more of a general question. A lot of the text that is displayed is blurry around the edges on all settings. Is this always the case for using TV's for secondary monitors?

ive read that macbooks get cracks on the casing. i have a black macbook from 08 and its had the crack since about 2 months after i got it, i didnt do it. it kind of gradually turned into a crack and then a peice came off, if i brought it to a macstore, would they fix it even though i dont have insurance? I actually have 2 cracks, one that i didnt do and one that happened by accident, would they fix it if one of the 2 cracks was done accidentaly by me?

Why does MacBook? Too much money to spend on something that you can't rely on in my opinion... I was thinking of getting a MacBook Pro but don't really wanna drop an extra 100-200 dollars to get a 500 GB harddrive like I would on the normal MacBook.

View 22 Replies View Relatedis there is a solution for the cracking sound? well of course I could ask for a replacement but besides the cracking i dont have any problems with the ultimate 13": no screen issue, no wobbling, i even got the 9CDF screen, so maybe the next one would be with one of these issues?? I got a friend who has a screwdriver which fits my MBA but im not a technic-kind of guy, so i don't know if i should try to tighten the buttomplate to get rid of the cracking?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read some posts about macbooks cracking near the palmrest area. Since I bought my macbook in May 2008, my macbook has developed a number of random cracks and chips. Here are some examples:
- About 2 inches of the bezel on the top left of the screen has peeled off after cracking.
- Again, about 2 inches of plastic cracked and peeled off near where the optical drive is.
- Horizontal crack on the top of the little indent to open the macbook
Unfortunately, there isn't an apple store near me so I can't really take it in to have them check it out. Does apple typically fix these for free? I'm a bit worried because I am extremely careful with the macbook yet these cracks and chips continue to show up. Given that there isn't an apple store near me, how exactly would I resolve this problem?
Well I brought my white early 2009 MacBook to apple today because it is cracking at the hinge near the speakers. They told me that the cracking isn't under warranty. Is this true or is only the top case covered? I can post a pic soon. It runs the whole length of the inner part of the hinge.
View 14 Replies View Relatedalmost every time or at least 80% of the times i open my MACBOOK i hear a sound (kinda like a cracking noise) when opening it more than 90* angle, it seems it comes from the hinge on the left side, ohh and when it does that sound you can feel it, it is like if it gets stuck or something. View 24 Replies View RelatedOn random movements or just when putting pressure on it while typing, my 13 MBA makes light cracking noises which I'm sure are coming from the tiny bolts that run all along the sides of the bottom.
I know some have reported to make creaking noises, but mine isn't at that stage... yet.
i have, in the past, had my macbook's palm rest crack. I brought it into apple, and was happy to have it replaced, free of charge. Recently, the plastic cracked again, this time in a new place. The plastic border above the screen; more particularly the area directly above the indents that come out to help separate the screen from the keyboard. I'm not sure if this is covered by Apple's policy with cracked palmrests. Any advice or help is appreciated of course. If you think Apple won't help me, would it be risky to use an adhesive to hold the plastic down, as it's near the screen?
View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I noticed about 8 little hairline cracks on the bottom side of my unibody hinge when I turned it in the light just right. They are small, but they are definitely cracks in the hinge. I'm rather irritated since the machine is essentially a desktop replacement and has only ever traveled to work with me 10-20 times, if that. The machine is absolutely pristine otherwise. If I make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have this replaced, what can I expect them to replace? Do they have to replace the entire display/clamshell/hinge/lid as one piece? I REALLY don't like the idea of them replacing the whole entire thing because the one I have is great with no bowing and the display is fantastic, and I have a feeling I'll end up with something lesser if I send it off. Also I am worried they will somehow blame it on me since Apple seems to be pretty crappy about warrantying hinge issues...
