Does anyone else get like this small crack sound when they pick up their MacBook air?. Feels like the bottom plate is shifting a little... Or sounds like the screws are not tight enough... Anyways... Just wanted to know Of anyone else had this problem.
View 22 Repliesis there is a solution for the cracking sound? well of course I could ask for a replacement but besides the cracking i dont have any problems with the ultimate 13": no screen issue, no wobbling, i even got the 9CDF screen, so maybe the next one would be with one of these issues?? I got a friend who has a screwdriver which fits my MBA but im not a technic-kind of guy, so i don't know if i should try to tighten the buttomplate to get rid of the cracking?

View 4 Replies View RelatedTitle says it all.. It'll feel like there's a bit of resistance to moving it and when it does it makes a rather loud cracking/creaking noise. After I've just done it, it won't happen again until I leave it sitting in one position for a while. 13" MBP Is it going to break and if it does will apple replace it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook 1.5GHz 15.2" with mac os x 10.5.4 and yesterday while cleaning the computer I noticed something weird. With computer unplugged from the power source, i turned it on and increased the volume when the desktop come on. Before I could hear the alert sound when you change the volume there was another sound, like 3 lower volume pops, the normal sound it makes when you change the volume. Then I turned off the computer plugged in all the cables and power source and turned on and then when I changed the volume I only hear the normal alert sound when changing the volume. It only happened when the computer was running on battery.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes (about one-fifth of the time) when I do a screen capture (using Command-Shift-4) there is a horrible loud cracking in place of the camera clicking sound. I have a pair of Yamaha speakers which are about nine years old but they work fine otherwise, no static, play iTunes great, etc.
Is there a setting I can change that would obviate this from happening? It's getting on my nerves because I'm starting to expect it each time, even though it's the exception rather than the rule. Or does it mean my speakers need to be replaced? I don't do anything musically-intensive on my iMac so I can change settings, but I would like to keep a decent basic level of stereo output.
I'm using a first-generation 1.8GHz 20" iMac with 10.4.11, but will probably upgrade to Leopard sometime this summer.

Has this happened to anyone else? if so have you found the solution to get around it? as apple technical support cant seem to help me with the general settings and audio MIDI set up
Before my new iMac took 2 minutes to boot up and I re-installed SL and it is now fixed but now, like the 27 inch, the videos on youtube are really choppy and the sound is messed up. It only happens occasionally and is fixed with a restart and is really annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I had a 11 inch air 1.4GHz/4GB/128GB for two weeks. I usually set the brightness to 75% and for consistent web browsing (no heavy flash) I can get about 5h15min battery life. I noticed someone here claiming 8+ hours battery on 13 inch so I decided to give it a shot.
I got a new 13 air with 1.86GHz/4GB/128GB yesterday and start to run on battery immediately. I was disappointed. The brightness was also set to 75% and I start to count the time from 25% while browsing MacRumors.com. And it only took 1h38m for battery descending from 25% to 0%. Again, pure web browsing and no heavy flash.
So here is my conclusion: On 75% brightness, 11 inch air's battery performs beyond advertised 5 hours and 13 inch's battery performs fair and normally should give you around 6h30m~7h.
Noise
I don't have equipments for measuring the noise, but while copying the same 10GB files from external drive to the machine, the fan noise from 13 inch is much louder than 11 inch.
Now I like my 11 inch more in general, although I really hate the 1366 x 768 screen. I don't know if I should sell the 13 inch or 11inch...

To those contemplating on picking up the 11-inch MacBook Air or the 13-inch MacBook Air, I thought it would be helpful to list the differences between the two.
Below is what I've compiled so far (in no particular order):
1) SD Card Slot is on the 13" MacBook Air, not present on the 11"
2) Higher clock speed configurations on the 13" (1.4 GHz/1.6 GHz vs. 1.86 GHz/2.13 GHz)
3) 6MB of shared L2 Cache on the 13" vs. the 3MB on the 11"
4) 1066 MHz frontside bus on the 13" vs. the 800 MHz on the 11"
5) Larger capacity battery and an extra 2 hours of battery life on the 13" (7 hour 50-watt-hour battery on the 13" vs. 5 hour 35-watt-hour battery on the 11")
6) Slightly larger trackpad and more room for your palms while typing (hey, it's true!)
7) 16:10 1440 x 900 13.3" Display vs. 16:9 1366 x 768 11.6" Display
8) The 13" model weighs in at 2.9 pounds while the 11" weighs in at 2.3 pounds. .5 pound weight difference

I am trying to use my HD Sansui 32 inch LCD TV as a monitor for my Macbook. I can't work out how to set it up properly. My macbook is running OS X 10.5.8. My TV supports 1920 * 1080 HDMI 60Htz NTSC and various other resolutions. I am using a mini DVI to DVI adapter and then a HDMI lead to the tv. Problem one is that when I switch the Macbook on and close the lid nothing comes up on the TV screen (meaning it is supposed to only driving one screen, the TV). If I do this with the VGA connection it will. Momentarily the apple symbol will come up and the little circle below it but then my TV says signal not supported.
If I have the Macbook lid open when I switch the computer on both screens will work and I can select 1080P, however it is very grainy and not pleasant to read text. I think it looks better using the VGA. I have heard of people getting nice crisp display with HDMI so I am wondering if I am missing something? Is there any other software that can be used to get better results? Which text smoothing settings should I use? Are there other settings? I am using it on my desk so I guess it is about 2 foot from me. I will post my display details in a minute but my computer details are the following:
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SdRam
ive read that macbooks get cracks on the casing. i have a black macbook from 08 and its had the crack since about 2 months after i got it, i didnt do it. it kind of gradually turned into a crack and then a peice came off, if i brought it to a macstore, would they fix it even though i dont have insurance? I actually have 2 cracks, one that i didnt do and one that happened by accident, would they fix it if one of the 2 cracks was done accidentaly by me?

Why does MacBook? Too much money to spend on something that you can't rely on in my opinion... I was thinking of getting a MacBook Pro but don't really wanna drop an extra 100-200 dollars to get a 500 GB harddrive like I would on the normal MacBook.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read some posts about macbooks cracking near the palmrest area. Since I bought my macbook in May 2008, my macbook has developed a number of random cracks and chips. Here are some examples:
- About 2 inches of the bezel on the top left of the screen has peeled off after cracking.
- Again, about 2 inches of plastic cracked and peeled off near where the optical drive is.
- Horizontal crack on the top of the little indent to open the macbook
Unfortunately, there isn't an apple store near me so I can't really take it in to have them check it out. Does apple typically fix these for free? I'm a bit worried because I am extremely careful with the macbook yet these cracks and chips continue to show up. Given that there isn't an apple store near me, how exactly would I resolve this problem?
Well I brought my white early 2009 MacBook to apple today because it is cracking at the hinge near the speakers. They told me that the cracking isn't under warranty. Is this true or is only the top case covered? I can post a pic soon. It runs the whole length of the inner part of the hinge.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm getting one for school and i'm going to have to carrying it aroound quite a bit, so the 11-inch seemed appeling at first, but then i noticed that there is a few pros to the 13-inch than the 11 inch: There's an SD card slot on the 13 inch, which i could care less about, the screen has higher resoulotion, which i don't really care about eiether, but the one difference was that the 13 inch has two hours more battery life, which kinda got me thinking towards the 13-inch. So what do you guys think, is it impossible to work on the 11.6 inch and should i go for the 13 inch, or should i go with the ultra-portability of the 11-inch?

I know some have reported to make creaking noises, but mine isn't at that stage... yet.
i have, in the past, had my macbook's palm rest crack. I brought it into apple, and was happy to have it replaced, free of charge. Recently, the plastic cracked again, this time in a new place. The plastic border above the screen; more particularly the area directly above the indents that come out to help separate the screen from the keyboard. I'm not sure if this is covered by Apple's policy with cracked palmrests. Any advice or help is appreciated of course. If you think Apple won't help me, would it be risky to use an adhesive to hold the plastic down, as it's near the screen?

Does that mean that I will be getting the whole case, trackpad and keyboard included repaired, or will they just give me a whole new case. I was also told that there was a few hairline cracks around the screen bezel, I could not see them but according to the genius they where there so he included that to be repaired also. How long do repairs usually take, as i have my dissertation due on Friday, and would like my computer back by then.
ive got an 18 month old white SR MacBook, recently im getting quite a few cracks on the casing on the top (around the keyboard), what can i do to stop it cracking further and how much would apple likely charge me to get it fixed? (im in the uk and there are no apple stores near me!) As you can see i nthe pics below to the left hand side of the keyboard is where most of the 'crack' has happened, the whole 'line' actually peels away and pulls off and is literally the thin piece of plastic topping, similar is now starting to happen to the right side (which may not be viewable in the pictures)
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast night I noticed about 8 little hairline cracks on the bottom side of my unibody hinge when I turned it in the light just right. They are small, but they are definitely cracks in the hinge. I'm rather irritated since the machine is essentially a desktop replacement and has only ever traveled to work with me 10-20 times, if that. The machine is absolutely pristine otherwise. If I make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have this replaced, what can I expect them to replace? Do they have to replace the entire display/clamshell/hinge/lid as one piece? I REALLY don't like the idea of them replacing the whole entire thing because the one I have is great with no bowing and the display is fantastic, and I have a feeling I'll end up with something lesser if I send it off. Also I am worried they will somehow blame it on me since Apple seems to be pretty crappy about warrantying hinge issues...

Cracks on the palm rest, the sides, the bottom, the bezel and now even the hinge, pretty bad. I am looking for a new laptop for various other reasons and I was going to get the 13" pro because I really don't like the white MacBooks anymore, but I'm really strapped for cash and I was wondering if I should maybe get the white unibody, only problem is I would hate to buy it and then have it crack just like this one has.

I have babied my MBA ever since I got it, no drops or dents, and then one day it started making a creeking and cracking in the lower right hand corner of the screen (next to the hinge). Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone come up with a solution to eliminate the noise?

It broke off, resulting in a 3-4 inch gap right along the edge. The piece that broke off is very, very thin. My left palm rest has started doing the very same a few weeks ago... I also have noticed that a friend of mine with a white macbook has the same problem. Is this some sort of recognized defect? Like would I be able to go to an Apple store and have it replaced? If so, would the mac genius be able to transfer everything as is from my current macbook to my next one (AKA all passwords saved and everything, only difference is the hardware?)
