I was using my mac and a relized that the really edges of the trackpad don't respond at all, by edges i mean like around .5 cm from the edge. especially in the bottom its where its more noticeable, is this normal? what shall i do

The other day my battery died on me and after I had plugged it in and restarted, I was unable to enter in my password at the login screen because the keyboard and trackpad wouldn't respond. I tried repairing the disk and permissions but I still can't get past the login screen. I know I can always reinstall leopard but there are a few files I haven't had the chance to backup. Any way to get back those files before I reinstall?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI starting having problems with my MacBook this morning. After being asleep I started using it again and I wasn't getting a responce from mouse or trackpad clicks. The cursor will still move but I can't select anything. Â I did a hard restart once and it went back to normal. After it happened again I did another hard restart and it wouldn't boot up again. I did two hard shut downs/restarts and it finally booted up again. Although it's still not responding.

In the last few days I've had a recurring problem: Randomly and without any obvious context in terms of actions, apps etc, my trackpad simply stops responding. I have all options enabled on the trackpad, such as soft click+drag, and the problem has so far only occured when performing that: drop'n drag.
It get's stuck and I cant release whatever I've gripped. I am now only able to use the keyboard and have to reboot to be able to use the trackpad again. After reboot the problem returns randomly after a while. I can't think of any recent software updates or additions that have coincided with the problem, except installing Livedrive Briefcase recently.
The problem however does not specifically occur when working with that (though Livedrive is set to run in the background). The problem occurs more and more often, usually after I have closed the lid (sleep). Also, I am able to use my Magic Trackpad, which in turn brings the build in trackpad back to working!

I just got back from an 8-day long trip to mainland China and when I got back I realized that I had left my MBA unplugged and in sleep mode. When I came back, I opened the lid and found that hitting the keys on the keyboard didn't work. Then I realized that the battery was probably completely out of charge. After I plugged it in, I opened the lid again and hit the power button.
The device powered up but after it got to the login screen I could not type my password in or move the cursor. I tried plugging in a USB mighty mouse but it still wouldn't register. I was replacing some of the USB driver files on the MBA before I left and I think that might be the problem. How do I fix this if there's no network boot or firewire? I think my warranty might be voided too because it's had a few nasty bumps but I don't think that's what's causing the problem.
I have a question about the trackpad on my unibody macbook with the bad screen sadly . Is the "button" area of the trackpad (where the button would be) suppose to be unresponsive to movements, for example, when I move slowly along the button area, my mouse curser does not move at all while any movement in the middle is registered with high sensitivity. It only starts to register when I move towards to middle of the trackpad or quickly along the button. However, three and four finger gestures work perfectly along the button area. I have also notice that the corners of the trackpad are also unresponsive to movements.

I haven't noticed this when using a USB mouse, but when I use my trackpad recently, and click on a non-active window, it focuses on the window I clicked on and then immediately "minimizes" it into the dock.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" iMac purchased in July 2011. I never had any issues with the trackpad before upgrading to Mavericks. I upgraded a few months ago and started having sporadic issues with the trackpad. When the iMac woke up, everything seemed fine at first. About once or twice a week, after it had been working for about a minute (just enough time to start web browsing), the trackpad would suddenly stop responding. It then progressed to being more consistent (every other day). The cursor was still visible and the keyboard still worked. The trackpad was still on but apparently not connected. I thought it was the batteries, but new batteries didn't work. I could get the trackpad to work again by using Spotlight to open the Bluetooth System Preferences. The trackpad worked immediately when Bluetooth preferences were opened (nothing needed to be changed; it would just start working).Â
However, it would stop responding after about ten minutes. It was interesting because even if I left the Bluetooth System Preferences open, it would still stop responding after about ten minutes. I could use the keyboard to make the preferences window active and it would immediately work again. It would then work again for a few minutes and then stop. I found that removing the trackpad and re-connecting it would cause the trackpad to start working again more consistently. It would only stop if the iMac went back to sleep for an extended period (overnight). Â
The useful keyboard shortcuts are cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight, type bluetooth, use the arrow keys to go to Bluetooth system preferences (hit enter), use the arrow keys to go down to the trackpad, press spacebar to unconnect, again to confirm, and then after the trackpad is automatically rediscovered, press spacebar again to pair it.Â
This went on for about a month, when I had what I suspect was an unrelated problem. The trackpad started acting as if it was being held down (left click was always being pressed). I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it was broken. At that point I had a brand new trackpad. Â
The issue had gone back to happening every other week or so. I thought it might be interference, but I've since physically moved apartments and all the objects around it. It's been a couple months now and it's back to happening every couple of days or so. Since the trackpad is brand new, I have to think this is a software issue. I've noticed the following consistently:Â
1) It only stops responding if I've put it to sleep (I usually do so with a hot corner, but I don't have any reason to believe that's related) and haven't used the computer for more than 12 hours.
2) It'll always work right when it wakes up. It'll stop fairly consistently 1 - 2 minutes after waking up.
3) Time Machine seems to be busy doing something when the trackpad stops (the little icon is spinning in a circle if I have a Finder window open). Uncertain if it's always doing something or if it's coincidence that I've noticed it more recently.
4) As mentioned above, opening the Bluetooth System Preferences will always get the trackpad to respond, but then it'll stop after a few minutes. Unpairing and reestablishing the pairing will fix the issue for awhile (at the very least until the next time the iMac sleeps).
5) I may be imagining this, but before upgrading to Mavericks, I think it used to show the message that the trackpad was connected when the iMac woke up. I no longer see that message unless I remove the connection and setup the pairing again.Â
I've seen lots of people with various issues with Bluetooth connectivity and Mavericks. I'm on 10.9.4.Â

I've been ghosting here for months, eagerly awaiting the new MacBook with all of you. I now own one (as of Monday morning) and am loving it, except for one thing -- the sharp edges that cut into my wrists while I type! I've read various threads with complaints about this, but haven't seen any suggestions for fixing it (sorry if I missed postings about this elsewhere). My two ideas are either to sand down the edges until they're rounded and smooth, or put something on it (a piece of cloth? glue?)

Is this a Rev B thing? My Rev A was super solid and didn't make any noises. I know the internals of the Rev A vs. Rev B were drastically changed and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. It's not bad, I just noticed it and was curious... maybe it's a refurb thing?

I am completely in love with just about every aspect of it except for one pesky thing -- the edges of the aluminum unibody are ridiculously sharp and dig into my wrists after prolonged use. I seriously don't know how this feature ever got passed Apple's design team and the user test trials. Anyway, I've seen some similar posts about this but no one seems to give any good solutions. My question is - does anyone know of any good accessory products (wrist rests, etc...) that would remedy this? The ones I've seen just seem to be palm rest protectors and don't address the actual edges of the computer. Or, does anyone have any ideas for home remedies? I thought of maybe buying some moleskin or foam and applying it over the edge but that would prove to be quite unsightly I'm sure.
View 24 Replies View RelatedThe first week I had my Macbook Pro I noticed about 5 or 6 little grey splotches on the right hand edge of the screen. About a month later tons of them had formed on the top edge in a cluster. I didn't take my computer in because it wasn't that noticable, only at an angle. Well it's been 9 months, and there's now spots on the left hand side, and it's spreading. A week ago they started to appear on the bottom on the screen, and all the spots on all the other edges are forming rings around them.
I took it to my tech at our school since they sold us the laptops, and he said the spots were too small for water damage, and that he's never seen anything like it before. So I took it into the apple store THINKING they would replace it, instead they told me it had to be water damage and that was that. I've never spilled anything on this computer, and the spots started the week I got it. No matter how many times i explained the situation to those people, they just kept repeating "I'm not saying that you're lying, but we dont know what was actually done to the computer, we say it's water damage, which isn't covered" and refused to fix it.
Its just a bunch of little grey dots clustered together, some are a little spread out but as the weeks go by it just gets worse.
I'm not really sure what else to do at this point, the apple store obviously wasnt a big help. And I still have no idea what it is, i just know that this computer is extremely important to my schooling, it doesn't get banged around, i dont even eat around it. Has anyone seen anything like this?
I've got a late 2007 SR whitebook 2.2ghz 4gig of ram with intel gma x3100 using Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Last couple months (I think) I've experienced some graphical corruption around the edges of apps (it goes black mostly but sometimes looks like lots of lines) it also happens in expose around the windows, also on dock icons. It happened in 10.6.2 and now 10.6.3, its not happening at the moment which is annoying as i can't show you, my macbook seems to run very hot (well it feels hot underneath though the iStat dashboard shows it idling cpu at 57 degrees c).

I have noticed there are several marks on screen appears to be from keyboard edges, say where the "E" key supposed to meet the screen. Looks like small spot scratches, but fortunately they came off when I clean them with damped cloth. It came back after I use and close/open the lid, same spots I think. New MBP design looks like the keys should not touch the screen, but it appears to be keep touching while lid is closed? What about yours, can you see marks when the screen is turned off? Or I may need to worry about screen protection? (if I do cleaning often the same spots I guess it may scratch eventually?)

I can move the cursor from all places of the trackpad apart from the bottom corners - but I can only click in the center of the pad. However I can touch click in most places (apart from bottom corners). Does anybody know how to fix this? Â
I've only had my MacBook Pro for 4 weeks now, I've not dropped it, knocked it or spilt anything on it, so this is pretty disappointing to say the least. I've seen a bunch of videos on youtube where people are taking their MBP apart and tightening a screw to fix the problem. My warranty is still valid and I have AppleCare so I don't want to be voiding either of those by taking it a apart and messing about inside.

I recently bought a Kanex iAdapt so I can use my TV as a secondary display. It works but there are a few annoying problems.
1) When I set the display output to any of the available resolutions (480p.720P.1080i) the picture is displayed - however the edges are cut off resulting in about 5 % of the picture being lost. this means that the taskbar on my mac is barely visible.Any ideas on why this is happening and how i can get it fixed?
2)This is more of a general question. A lot of the text that is displayed is blurry around the edges on all settings. Is this always the case for using TV's for secondary monitors?

I have a unibody macbook from summer 2009. My TV is a sony bravia 32" from the KDL range. (KDL 32S3000)
I have an late 08 unibody Mbp and a 11 mba, I have noticed the glass trackpad on the air is much closer to the glass on an iphone in the way your finger reacts to it... the least bit of moisture and your finger doesn't glide as easily. On the pro it seems to have more of a coating to allow for smoother use under these normal conditions (humidity). Has anyone else noticed this? bottom line the air trackpad almost seems more polished.

I then have to move my mouse till I can get it in view again. It wears on your patience after a while as you can imagine.

When I have multiple tabs or just one and click it and drag it off the tabs bar to make it become a window everytime i let go it becomes a window but everything is messed up. the edges around the window and the top of it. It looks like it is overlapping or something. This was the last straw for me, not fixing it with 10.6.4. I have no idea if this is a widespread issue, but does anyone know how to fix it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.
Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.
Is there a way in OS X to get the finder windows or any open windows or programs to "snap to" and align with the edges of the desktop? Not the icons, the windows themselves.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my new iMac. It's beautiful, but the wireless keyboard has sharp edges. It easily scratches the aluminum finish on the magic mouse bottom, and the plastic on the top. Obviously the answer is "don't hit bump your mouse into your keyboard"... but with the 27" screen... you have to move the mouse A LOT to get your expose' corners working! Other than that, works well.
Side note: exceptionally impressed with parallels 6 -- but I gave it 2 cores and 6gb of RAM.
I can remote desktop into it with my macbook pro and do some quick coding in Visual Studio - nice. To setup remote desktop in parallels 6 -- you need to go to Virtual Machine.. Configure..Network... change it to shared connection with Airport.
Every time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)
But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?

When i watch movies with the lights in my room off, and the frame in the film is completely black, I can see areas around the inside edge of the screen that are lighter in color than the center of the screen almost like light from behind the screen is shining through a little.
Is this normal or was this screen not manufactured properly?
My touch pad will only tap to click. It wont respond to a right click or left click when you actually press down on the pad. Any ideas what may be up? Macbook pro I7.
