MacBook :: Cracking - Plastic Border Above The Screen

Feb 8, 2009

i have, in the past, had my macbook's palm rest crack. I brought it into apple, and was happy to have it replaced, free of charge. Recently, the plastic cracked again, this time in a new place. The plastic border above the screen; more particularly the area directly above the indents that come out to help separate the screen from the keyboard. I'm not sure if this is covered by Apple's policy with cracked palmrests. Any advice or help is appreciated of course. If you think Apple won't help me, would it be risky to use an adhesive to hold the plastic down, as it's near the screen?

MacBook :: Lid Making Plastic Cracking Noise While Closing And Opening

Jun 12, 2006

its normal for the lid to be making a plastic cracking noise when closing and opening it? Its like a clicking noise as if it catching on something as its being opened. I didnt notice it at when i first got the unit, but now it seems to be getting progressively worst. Also was wondering, does anyone else find the case flimsy around the ports on the left handside? I can push the plastic in and out with my pinky.

MacBook :: Chip In Inner Border Around Screen

Aug 13, 2010

A tiny piece of the inside border around the screen on my white macbook chipped off. It's on the far right right above the thing I don't know how to describe it but it looks like this: --------. I don't have warranty or apple care or anything like that anymore but i was wondering how much it would cost to repair. Would it be a quick fix that I can just pick up later in the day? I heard that simple repairs like this cost around 40 or 50 dollars but I don't know really.

I bought my Macbook from someone so I don't have the receipt or anything but I do have some papers from when he went to repair cracks before. I don't know I'm really good with my MacBook since I got it used and it was already sort of beat up. I've never slammed it shut so I don't even know how it cracked.

MacBook Pro :: Getting A Black Border Box In Various Places On Screen

Jan 31, 2012

I am getting these black border boxes around my web pages, text input boxes, around some of the icons on my desktop, widgets, and small sections of different websites around the screen.

When I typed this message there was a box around the text input section, after I scrolled down the box stayed in the middle of my screen (this time not around a particular section). All the other stuff on the screen scrolled up and the box remained in the same place.

OS X Mavericks :: How To Get Rid Of Shadowed Border Around Screen On MacBook Pro

Jul 1, 2014

how to get rid of this shadowed border on the screen of my macbook pro. I think my young daughter made it appear when she was striking various keys at random on my computer when I was not there. The cursor does not work when its over the shadow (i.e. will not depress the red 'x' button to exit a window and I have to drag window out from under shadow to close it).

It also appears in the middle of screen when airplay is turned on. (See screen shots below)

Above is screen normally and below is when airplay is turned on.

MacBook Pro :: Stop Hinge Plastic From Creaking / Black Plastic Hinge Cover Is Cheap And Creaks

Feb 15, 2007

Build-quality wise the unibodies are really as perfect as I've ever experienced any machine to be. Simply amazing. BUT, the black plastic hinge cover is cheap and creaks as soon as I grab the computer or open the display. I opened her up to see if there was anything I could do to reinforce it or something, but I didn't want to mess with it.

Quite a few seem to have this 'issue' and I thought maybe somebody has figured out a solution?Such a shame on an otherwise perfect machine. I would have preferred the same kind of rubbery plastic that was on the old generation MBP

MacBook Air :: Is The Screen Itself Plastic Or Glass And Does It Scratch Easily

I was thinking about possibly selling my MacBook Pro and purchasing the 11.6-inch Air because I'm a college student who doesn't need much more than word processing, web browsing, iTunes, and portability. But I hear that the Airs don't have the glass covering of the Pro... Is the screen itself plastic or glass and does it scratch easily?

MacBook :: White Cracking Around The Screen Bezel

May 25, 2009

I took my Macbook into the Apple store yesterday, to be repaired for a few cracks i had on it. Looking at the Repair descriptions, I have noticed there a few extra thing the genius must have noticed, and included to be repaired, these are:

Item Number: 922-8285, Description: Housing, Bottom case, Amount Due: 0.00
Item Number: 922-8383, Description: Display Bezel, Amount Due: 0.00
Item Number: B661-5075, Description: Top Case W/Keyboard Assy Wht-GBR, Amount Due: 0.00
Item Number: S1491LL/A, Description: Hardware Repair-Level 2, Amount Due: 0.00

Does that mean that I will be getting the whole case, trackpad and keyboard included repaired, or will they just give me a whole new case. I was also told that there was a few hairline cracks around the screen bezel, I could not see them but according to the genius they where there so he included that to be repaired also. How long do repairs usually take, as i have my dissertation due on Friday, and would like my computer back by then.

MacBook Pro :: Black Plastic Of Screen Hinge Cracks When Touched

Jun 12, 2012

I was cleaning my 17" MacBook Pro today (purchased in March, 2011), and when I was cleaning near the screen, I noticed that the black plastic of the hinge made cracking noises as I ran my cleaning cloth across it (and every time I do it now with my finger). I have never had this happen before. Is this a known, harmless defect or is it something I should get looked at by someone at an Apple Store (still under AppleCare).

Mac Pro :: Black Border Around All Sides Of Screen When Connecting To HDTV Via HDMI

Sep 8, 2008

I've seen a few posts about this problem on Macrumors and through Google searches, but I haven't found a solution to the "Black Border" problem some of us are having when connecting Macs to HDTV's via HDMI cables. Nor am I certain what the cause of the problem is: Mac?, TV?, HDMI cable length?

For me, resetting PRAM by holding Command-Option-P-R at startup and waiting for two chimes removes the black border for up to several computer restarts, but eventually the border comes back until I reset PRAM, again.

I have a 55' long HDMI cable from Monoprice ("HDMI Tin-Plated Copper CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable (22AWG) - 35ft (Gold Plated)") running from a Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon video card to a 52" Mitsubishi 1080p HDTV.

To clarify, this is not just a black bar at the top and bottom like when watching certain DVD's, but a black border around all four sides that effectively reduces the size of your TV from, e.g. 52" to 46" whether watching movies, surfing the web, or otherwise using the Mac via an HDTV

OS X :: IMac IC2D (plastic, Not Aluminium) Screen With (dark Corners)?

Feb 13, 2009

I have a question (whoa). I have an iMac Dual Core, bought in mid-2007 (it's the White Plastic version, not the newer Aluminium with the glass-display).

For some time now I had some dark spots, kind of shadow like in the bottom left corner. I wasn't bothered too much by them, but they got bigger, and now I have these in all of the corners except the bottom right one.

Anyone got any ideas how to get rid of them? (no, no three-year guarantee plan ... stupid me), or if not if it'd mean to replace the whole display or if it's just some cleaning (I talk money-wise here ...)

I attach two not-so-good pictures (the background is plain-white and the image is a bit enhanced ...) so you guys can see what I mean.

Software :: Horrible Cracking Sound With Screen Captures?

Jun 8, 2008

Sometimes (about one-fifth of the time) when I do a screen capture (using Command-Shift-4) there is a horrible loud cracking in place of the camera clicking sound. I have a pair of Yamaha speakers which are about nine years old but they work fine otherwise, no static, play iTunes great, etc.

Is there a setting I can change that would obviate this from happening? It's getting on my nerves because I'm starting to expect it each time, even though it's the exception rather than the rule. Or does it mean my speakers need to be replaced? I don't do anything musically-intensive on my iMac so I can change settings, but I would like to keep a decent basic level of stereo output.

I'm using a first-generation 1.8GHz 20" iMac with 10.4.11, but will probably upgrade to Leopard sometime this summer.

MacBook Pro :: Hinge Makes Cracking Noise / Loud Popping Noise When Adjust Screen Position

Jun 6, 2009

On my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back. The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.

This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.

If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.

Too much money to spend on something that you can't rely on in my opinion... MacBook :: Cracking Near The Palmrest Area

Mar 24, 2009

I've read some posts about macbooks cracking near the palmrest area. Since I bought my macbook in May 2008, my macbook has developed a number of random cracks and chips. Here are some examples:

- About 2 inches of the bezel on the top left of the screen has peeled off after cracking.
- Again, about 2 inches of plastic cracked and peeled off near where the optical drive is.
- Horizontal crack on the top of the little indent to open the macbook

Unfortunately, there isn't an apple store near me so I can't really take it in to have them check it out. Does apple typically fix these for free? I'm a bit worried because I am extremely careful with the macbook yet these cracks and chips continue to show up. Given that there isn't an apple store near me, how exactly would I resolve this problem?
