View 1 RepliesWoke up this morning late, so I didn't check the weather online like I usually do. Unplugged everything from my MBP (including an external display) while it was still asleep, tossed it in my back after it slept again, and headed out the door. When I got to class, all of my desktop items are gone. Macintosh HD, mounted dmg's, some files, and some other things are all gone off my desktop. They obviously still exist and I can open them from Finder

When i go to the MAC OS X and click on desktop it says : The folder "Desktop" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges. I don't know where all my things have gone. I can't save anything onto the desktop.

I just booted into Windows and saw that there were some Windows Updates available and it asked me to reboot the computer however it failed to boot into Windows. So I restarted and tried to boot into OS X instead, but that didn't work either.
So I put in the OS X install DVD and checked out Disk Utility. Turned out that all my partitions where screwed up. There were 3 partitions listed as Windows_ldm, with incorrect sizes (I had 4 partitions before).
Long story short: I'm now reinstalling OS X and I lost everything I had on the drive, I think. I'll try some restore software once I've gotten OS X installed.
A little pissed right now... How the heck can Windows F up the entire drive?
I seem to have lost my back button. where did it go?! how do i get it back ? how did i lose it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am up to date on software updates, and just this week, my MB Pro has lost audio--can't play iTunes, won't work with headphones, nor with the speakers. I'm in classes that require audio! I've check sound settings in system preferences, checked the audio buttons, everything.

I have a MacBook Air and one day I lost the sound all together. I had tried to bring it back from the keyboard but it seems to be locked and cannot unlock it. Then I went to check on the sound in the system preferences and it is not showing anything either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to keep my school files on desktop two so they are all in the same place, and use desktop one as a place to perhaps save photos or other files not school related. When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.

Microsoft files (e.g. excel) when forwarded as attachments and received by MacBook Winmail, get converted to winmail.dat files. However, MS Office products cannot open these winmail.dat files. Does anyone have a solution for this "bug"?

While trying to back up emails I seem to have lost them. Following the HELP page in Mail (Mac OS X program) I moved the MAIL folder from LIBRARY to the desktop. I failed to press OPTION while I was doing this, as the HELP page advised. So now, in Mail the identifiers of the messages are there, but the messages aren't and an error message appears saying that the emails have not been downloaded from the server, that I need to be online, etc. I am on line, have done "get mail", all of the obvious things.
I've tried to locate the original MAIL folder with Spotlight.
The server is at [URL]
I use a lap top that is usually connected to a high-resolution external monitor. When I disconnect, usually things behave, but occasionally the windows of certain programs will end up way out off the screen.Today I have a Thunderbird window that is far away (Mozilla apps are common victims/causes of this problem). Normally I would just quit and restart, but I don't trust it to save the draft of this important email. Here are the facts: The window is way off to the left. There is no one-pixel still on my main monitor. If I use F11 to see all Thunderbird windows, they swish in from the left, but if I select one they swish out again. Ditto if I minimize and maximize again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I change my desktop image, it often changes back to its previous setting next time I boot up. And- it doesn't remain constant between graphics cards either. (15" late '08 UMBP)
It changes when I connect external monitors, and it changes when I bring it home from work and boot up.
I just can't wrap my head around it. I have to change it every time I boot up, actually.
How can I get the symbol for my programs back on the desktop?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using safari then all of sudden I hit something and my address bar goes poof
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I hit customize toolbar to get rid of a button on my Safari toolbar. The window didn't pop up like it was supposed to, so I tried clicking around, and clicked the address bar and it disappeared.
Now even after a restart, I can't get the customize toolbar dialog to come up, therefore I can't get my address bar back.
This is on 10.5.2 by the way.

I record my activity for my job in an excel file on my MacBook Pro, and for some reason, the last few files that I have saved have somehow disappeared. They are simply not there when I go to open them. Is there any way I can track them down in my computer?

Relatively new to Mac. In Mac Mail, I accidentally dragged some of the default mailboxes (Drafts) out of the Mailboxes Pane on the left up to the top bar and they disappeared without so much as a warning message to let me know! I can't seem to find a way to get them back or the mail that was in them.
