Jun 12, 2009I am an owner of an emac v3.3, the system information says that its a Mac OSX 10.2.4 version. I want to completely erase everything off of this computer so that it can go back to its original state. However, I have lost the system restore cds. Could you tell me where I could find them for this model? Also, I have heard rumors that I can put windows onto an emac somehow. Is this true? and if so, how can I do this?

Dec 6, 2014My hard drive recently failed on my 2007 imac and having not backed up my mac for about 18 months I had to pay specialists to retrieve my data, which they put onto an external drive. I then got a new 1TB hybrid drive installed. Tonight I finally got my computer back. Very naively I was thinking I would be able to pick back up from where I left off. Before my drive broke I had Mavericks and was fully up to date running software like Logic X. Now I am back on 10.6.8. Can I just skip now straight up to Yosemite?

Jun 26, 2010I just booted into Windows and saw that there were some Windows Updates available and it asked me to reboot the computer however it failed to boot into Windows. So I restarted and tried to boot into OS X instead, but that didn't work either.
So I put in the OS X install DVD and checked out Disk Utility. Turned out that all my partitions where screwed up. There were 3 partitions listed as Windows_ldm, with incorrect sizes (I had 4 partitions before).
Long story short: I'm now reinstalling OS X and I lost everything I had on the drive, I think. I'll try some restore software once I've gotten OS X installed.
A little pissed right now... How the heck can Windows F up the entire drive?

Jun 10, 2009I seem to have misplaced the recovery discs for my brand new macbook. I'm thinking about upgrading the hard drive to a 500 gb store bought one but I have a question about the lack of a recovery disc.
I have a family pack of leopard licenses for other machines and one to spare which I have no problem using, but I was wondering if that leopard installation would install the trackpad features for my macbook. Will I see trackpad in system preferences? Will it work just like it did?
If so, I don't really care about the recovery disc. Otherwise, I might have to invest in another one.
IMac :: How Come A Recovery Disc Version Could Differ From Actually Installed
Dec 10, 2009I phoned up AppleCare and they are kind enough to mail me back two recovery discs free of charge (they are white instead of grey, and printed as replacement discs)
Today I tried to boot from the disc to see if it works, after I chose the language, there's a msg saying "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer" and the two options that I have is to restore from Time Machine or restart.
So I checked the version of the disc in OSX, I discover that it's actually 10.6.1, instead of 10.6.2 which ships with Core i5/i7 iMacs.
Then I phone up AppleCare yet again to see if they have send me the correct disc. The guy asked of my serial number and after a while of checking, he said they have sent me the right disc. They say the discs that come along with the core i5/i7 are actually 10.6.1 as he sees from his system.
If I want to do a clean install of OSX I have to delete and format the volume first, he said.
I am not convinced, how come a recovery disc version could differ from the one that's actually installed?

I do, however, have the system recovery disc that came with my old computer (running windows XP). Can I use that as the install disc? Or will it just screw with the windows side of my machine?

DSII found the folders so how do I go about restoring them? Will I need an external drive that is atleast the same size as the files I want to recover? I have over 40GB of music but only a 8GB thumb drive.. Will it be possible for me to get my files back?

May 1, 2010I'm interested in the site Carbonite to back up my Mac, but I want to use Time Machine and have complete backups of my system. I'm assuming I can't use Time Machine on that site, so what's important is whether or not I can conduct a complete backup of my system on Carbonite that would allow me to completely recover my system in the event of a failure or a new computer...something like that.
Am I better off just buying an external HDD and using Time Machine?

Aug 8, 2010I recently updated my system to Snow Leopard which worked fine. Then I tried to upgrade some software the computer will not reboot. I have tried resetting the Pram but no luck. I can boot to the cd however it doesn't see the HDD. I can boot to an external HDD but I'm not able to mount the original HDD. Disk aid will not repair the HDD. I tried super duper to copy the disc and reinstall but it doesn't see the HDD. The HDD is a SSD drive. I need to at least be able to copy the information from this drive. However I am stuck at this point.
If I use disk utility and the source is my install cd and the destination the HDD will I lose all my information?

Jun 20, 2014I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8. I work with a lot of large files. When I'm done, I transfer these large files to an external hard drive, erase them from my lap top, and at least once a day, restart my computer, allowing for the formerly used disc space to be recovered. I occasionally will run ONYX and restart the computer, this also recovers lost disc space. Usually after restarting my computer there is between 100-150 GB of available space. My problem now is the space is not coming back. I'm down to 45 GB. Trash is empty. I've cleaned with ONYX, but the space is not recovering.

Sep 4, 2010I've just bought a new 500gb HDD, and 4gb of RAM for my late '08 MacBook. However, when I started to look for my Leopard install disc, I couldn't find it. So, I was wondering... The old HDD is running Snow Leopard, and is still in the computer. My friend has a MBP, which came with the Snow Leopard DVD. Would it be possible for me to back up the old HDD with Time Machine, install the new HDD, insert his Snow Leopard DVD, format the drive with Disc Utility, and then restore from Time Machine (with all the drivers/etc) installed?
The only thing I'm worried about is, I replaced the old HDD because it had some error - ivalid node structure - or something. The drive still works, but would the problem affect anything/be carried over? I'm not so concerned with keeping the files, I just want to have all the drivers/etc installed on my mac, and I couldn't think of another way. Woul this be possible, or is there an easier way?
OS X :: Getting Back Lost Emails?
Jan 3, 2011While trying to back up emails I seem to have lost them. Following the HELP page in Mail (Mac OS X program) I moved the MAIL folder from LIBRARY to the desktop. I failed to press OPTION while I was doing this, as the HELP page advised. So now, in Mail the identifiers of the messages are there, but the messages aren't and an error message appears saying that the emails have not been downloaded from the server, that I need to be online, etc. I am on line, have done "get mail", all of the obvious things.
I've tried to locate the original MAIL folder with Spotlight.

Nov 10, 2009I use a lap top that is usually connected to a high-resolution external monitor. When I disconnect, usually things behave, but occasionally the windows of certain programs will end up way out off the screen.Today I have a Thunderbird window that is far away (Mozilla apps are common victims/causes of this problem). Normally I would just quit and restart, but I don't trust it to save the draft of this important email.Here are the facts: The window is way off to the left. There is no one-pixel still on my main monitor. If I use F11 to see all Thunderbird windows, they swish in from the left, but if I select one they swish out again. Ditto if I minimize and maximize again.

May 11, 2012I have 750GB MacBook Pro and up until the other day I showed 250GB used and 500GB unused. I discovered this because the past two days my computer would just freeze and I couldn't do anything. So I ran the Disc Utility and it found some errors and fixed them. So I'm wondering if the 400GB of lost disc space now has something to do with the computer locking up? I've searched all the folders and added up their size and still come back to 250GB that I can see. So I'm assuming there's something hidden somewhere that's eating up over half my hard disc space?

Feb 15, 2008So I hit customize toolbar to get rid of a button on my Safari toolbar. The window didn't pop up like it was supposed to, so I tried clicking around, and clicked the address bar and it disappeared.
Now even after a restart, I can't get the customize toolbar dialog to come up, therefore I can't get my address bar back.
This is on 10.5.2 by the way.
