MacBook Pro :: System Update And Lost System Time And Background

Oct 30, 2010

I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

PowerPC :: Unable To Start System After Update / File System Got Corrupted?

Jul 19, 2007

I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.

After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....

MacBook Pro :: System Preference>Background Frozen With Rainbow BeachBall - Force Quit

Apr 8, 2012

Ive ran multiple different types of terminal searches for this "flashback" Trojan worm/virus that's going around. I've also searched for com.apple.systempreference.plist and it's not in there at all. I've done safe mode and everything else. I do not have a wallpaper HD lite, I am OUT of options, and I really don't want to have to re install Lion. Can someone PLEASE tell me something, other than those options?

MacBook Pro :: Lost Excel File With System Upgrade

Sep 1, 2014

I have been working on an Excel file for the last month continuously saving at every moment.  At some point something happened and the file name now included a (version 1) after the original file name.  I didn't worry about that because I was able to work on the file and keep on saving my work.  I did some changes yesterday and saved it.  All of a sudden I got a message that there was an upgrade ready to be installed at night.  So I saved the file and did the upgrade. my file was nowhere to be found.  I keep looking at Finder and I can only find a file with a similar name not the one with the (version 1) on it.  I opened that file but it doesn't include any of the changes and updates I have done in the last month.  I never deleted the file and I have double checked on the Trash and its not there.  Is there a way to recover my file? The only thing that I did differently was that I completely powered of my mac as opposed to just closing it.

OS X :: System Preferences Crash When Opening Background And Screensaver Panel?

Jul 17, 2008

So my friend and I played a trick on an intern here at work who just got a new MBP. We swapped his background out for a vista one - real simple, right.

Well, he got back and had a good chuckle about it UNTIL - the system preferences panel crashed after he tried to switch it back.

So here is the only symptom:
Open system preferences
Click "backgrounds and screensaver"
window opens, looks ok
window closes and error screen pops up saying "system preferences unexpectedly closed"

OS X :: MacBook Lid Closed During System Update

Dec 25, 2008

Tonight I upgraded my dad's macbook to Leopard, successfully. During the first login process, the software update asked me to install some updates, and that a reboot was required immediately (I imagine they were firmware related). I left the room to let the macbook do its thing and when I came back in my dad had shut the computer (not knowing I had done the firmware update thing). Long story short, I get an immediate kernel panic right away when I turn the computer on. I did not back up the data because I was only doing a system upgrade (which worked just fine!). When I boot, I do see the Apple Logo. I am able to boot into the Leopard Installation DVD. At this point, what are my options? I am only familiar with Linux and Windows advanced installations, so I don't know what is available to me.

1) Can I do a 'repair' on the firmware (or whatever is damaged?) from the DVD?
2) Am I able to do a fresh re-install of Leopard, without re-formatting the drive?
3) Does the 'Disk Utility' give me any options?

Is this true? and if so, how can I do this?
