Got an MBA a while back (Mid February), and am just now migrating out of my old Dell into my MBA. I find myself in a quandary -- buy bluetooth accessories or invest in a dock for the MBA.
I heard the Kensington sd200v dock is nice, and OS X drivers are in beta. Anyone running this setup on their Mac? I really need the ability to unplug and go at the drop of a hat. The prospect of outputting graphics for an extended desktop, audio, and a USB hub all through one USB connection is VERY attractive. Needless to say, it will all be in vain if I need to reset my graphics properties every time a disconnect and reattach. I have no experience with Kensington products, and ma curious how well they function in the Mac environment.
Reason I ask, is I will be moving into my dorm room at 8am tomorrow(WHOOOOOOOO), but now I have been thinking about my MBP and security/ theft.
At work we have about 20 lock cables just sitting around, and I am thinking about grabbing one. Does anyone use these? are they pretty secure?
Is there a solution to this problem? I am planning to use my MBA at work and it requires me, at some times during the day, to leave my notebook unattended while I go off and do other tasks. Unfortunately, I don't have my own office and I share a work area with other people. Any suggestions?

This is mostly in hopes of someone else noticing it and it saving them the same problem, but if you've got a clever suggestion, I'm up for it:
I like the Kensington Slimblade media mouse--neat idea being able to flip it over and use it as a remote.
Until, that is, I discovered the hard way that if you lose your USB receiver or it breaks, you just junked your mouse.
I have been using a caculator software product called Kensington Adding Machine (v.1.01) on my Macintosh computers for the last 12 years.
While the software is compatible with Mac OS 10 via Mac Classic the new Intel based Macs won't support Mac Classic. Hence I will be unable to use Kensington Adding Machine software when I next upgrade.
The version I'm using is dated 1993 Kensington Microware Limited. No one at Kennsington today even remembers the product.
I have tried many times over the years to find an alternative software product that does what Kensington Adding Machine does. It adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides, has a floating decimal point, it has a paper tape, it saves and prints and it has a small footprint on my desktop and sits in a 2.5" x 3" corner of my 17" Powerbook desktop. It even sounds like an adding machine or calculator when one enters numbers--- reassuring the user that his/her numbers actually got entered.
Nothing I've found on the internet (including Version Tracker) or in catalogs duplicates the simplicity, inconspicuousness and overall effectiveness of Kensington Adding Machine. As a financial person who works off of three laptop computers, I've found nothing on either platform that does what the Kensington Adding Machine does.
Last week my company moved locations. I carefully packed up my mac pro in the original box, and transported it myself, so there were no drops or anything like that.
Once I installed the computer in my new office, a USB hub stopped working.
Today, my new monitor arrived. A Samsung SyncMaster 245BW. After I installed that, my Kensington PRO Trackball is not recognized. I uninstalled/reinstalled the Kensington MouseWorks software, but still it is not recognized.
Did anyone tested this Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter on iMac. I currently have one monitor connected to my iMac and I wouls love to add another one I am just not sure if this is going to work.

I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to change my docks theme for the past few days but have been unable. I've used Candybar, Dock Library etc. and none of them seem to work. I'm really annoyed because it used to work for me. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday the OS X dock on my late '08 MacBook Pro 15" stop working like normal. It used to be, when an App was open, the icon would appear in the dock with a sort of highlight.
Now, the apps run fine but no longer appear in the dock. If I minimize it, it does show as a running app in the left hand side, but that isn't what I want it to do. Is there a quick way to get it to work again?
Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..? I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there.I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
So i changed the color of my dock with dock doctor and i tried to change it back to default but it wont do it. Any ideas?

I bought the USB Ethernet Adapter for MacBook Air, and it's plugged in, but still the ethernet wire doesn't seem to get any contact.I can see the USB adapter in setting for network, so it seems to to be connecter with my Air.THe other thing is that my friend bought himself a Laptop PC, and he used the SAME ethernet wire, and it worked right away.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo as of mid-day my Macbook will not connect to the internet in our apartment via ethernet. I have tried all my roomates ethernet plug ins and it still does not work. It shows a green light next to ethernet saying it his hooked up but it won't load any pages. I've tried network diagnostics? When I try to go to a webpage it goes to a white screen and after 5min of trying to load it bring up the "not connected to the internet" text. I guess I'll make a trip to the apple store wednesday if at all possible unless you guys come up with something. This machine is out of warranty so I'm wondering what would be the worse case scenario and how much am I looking at spending?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo basically I live in a college dorm and have been using ethernet the whole time I've been here then out of no where my computer will not take my ethernet cord anymore. In fact it will not take any ethernet cord. I've tried my friends and no luck, they try mine and it works. So it is obviously my computer. I plug it in, and it doesn't detect it, it just says ethernet not connected. What do I do? I got the latest Macbook pro with snow leapord. I take care of it, I didn't drop or anything it just stopped working.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased the Retina MacBook Pro and I wanted to get an Ethernet adapter for it. I was wondering whether it would be any quicker buying the official apple thunderbolt adaptor. Or would it be just as efficinet to buy a cheaper alternative on Amazon (one that uses USB).
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm in my college dorm room and instead of wifi you're able to connect by using an ethernet cable.
Now the problem is when i open safari, the type in a website and it only loads about 20% of the way and then stops.
The ethernet usually works but for some reason today it doesn't work.
Its funny because my room mate on the other side of the room is using his ethernet no problem

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to add a second ethernet port to my MacBook Pro using this product designed for the MacBook Air: [URL:...] Comments on the Apple site indicate that the device can be used with other computers, but I want to make completely sure it's going to do what I want it to do before I make the purchase. The reason I'm looking to do this is that I want to link my MB (via ethernet) to another laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate and use the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client to operate programs installed on the WIndows machine. The catch is that the internet at my current location (a university accommodation building) is also supplied by ethernet LAN and has some kind of detection system that prevents unauthorised routers from accessing the internet. So basically what I want to do is have the university LAN/internet running into the existing ethernet port on my Mac and then connect the ethernet port on the windows machine to the USB/Ethernet adapter plugged into one of the Mac's USB ports. The Windows machine does not have to have internet access. Is this possible? Will I be able to configure the two ethernet ports separately to operate two network connections? I understand the connections would require a different subnet mask and possibly a static IP for the computer-computer connection. That was a bit long-winded in the end.
View 12 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to share how well the Monoprice USB 2 gigabit ethernet adapter works on the new MacBook Air. It costs only $20. The speed I get is 30Mbyte/s over my wired home network. Here is the link: [URL]. For Mac OS X, you must use the drivers on the enclosed mini-CD as the default Apple ones do not work. For Bootcamp/Windows 7, download from [URL] the chip manufacturer. Works great and much faster than Apple's fast Ethernet adapter or WLAN.

I know Ive seen it said that you can do this using Appletalk, but now I cant find any info about it. Googling, I only came up with links dealing with pc -> mac transfer, or old info, like g3 imac -> imac, that type of thing.
Seems when I saw this it said to use Appletalk from the network settings. Is that all it takes? Do I just check 'make appetalk active'? As far as the 'appletalk zone', what goes there? And I assume 'configure automatically' is the best selection there.
