MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Is Not Working?

Aug 29, 2014

Im in my college dorm room and instead of wifi you're able to connect by using an ethernet cable.

Now the problem is when i open safari, the type in a website and it only loads about 20% of the way and then stops.

The ethernet usually works but for some reason today it doesn't work.

Its funny because my room mate on the other side of the room is using his ethernet no problem

I can't get ethernet to work on my new MacBook Air. I bought the USB Ethernet Adapter for MacBook Air, and it's plugged in, but still the ethernet wire doesn't seem to get any contact.I can see the USB adapter in setting for network, so it seems to to be connecter with my Air.THe other thing is that my friend bought himself a Laptop PC, and he used the SAME ethernet wire, and it worked right away.

My ethernet port is not working when cable is plugged in. Wireless works fine. Ethernet was working up until end of Feb. Then I turned it on and it wouldn't connect. Plugged into a friend's house still not working. Tried at work, still no luck. (I'm on a MacBook Pro late 2008)

MacBook Pro :: Internet Over Ethernet Is Not Working

Jun 6, 2012

I usually have all my computers, mac or pc, connected over Ethernet and only use Wifi for phones and guests. A while ago i started not to be able to connect to the internet anymore, although i hadn't changed anything on the mac or my router. I tired all possible troubleshooting routines to get to the bottom of it but with no success. Reset network ports in System prefs, Cocktail maintenance, Repairing disk and permissions booted from recovery partition, deleted SystemConfig files, reset the router to factory settings and reconfiguring, checked DHCP settings for ip conflicts, just nothing works.

I can connect to the internet over wifi without problems on the Macbook Pro.I can connect over ethernet to all other shared devices and computers on my network. When i run the Network Diagnostics with Ethernet as primary interface all lights are green and it says my connections are working but i cannot connect to any internet address, all pings time out with any port or protocol (ftp, mail, http, ssh)Other PC's and Macs can connect over ethernet to the internet without problems using the same cable.

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Dynamic DHCP Not Working On Mid-2010 With 10.7.3

May 14, 2012

Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.3, my mid-2010 cannot connect to to internet via Ethernet any more (wireless works fine).

Basically, the Network utility GUI shows that a correct IP address has been assigned via DHCP, but I get no internet.

If I now check the output of 'ifconfig', I see 'en0' having a local IP address assigned, i.e. 192.168.1.1 or similar.

Seems like a software bug of some sort. Is it getting fixed in 10.7.4?

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Port Broken - Safari / Chrome Not Working?

Sep 4, 2010

I just got to college and discovered that wifi didnt work (now I've learned that it only works with Firefox for whatever reason) so I just plugged into the ethernet port at my desk and it worked for a week or so and then it wouldn't work and I checked Network settings and it couldn't detect an ethernet cable. So I reset the PRAM and it worked... for a few hours, and now it doesn't. I don't want to have to do that every time I come back to my desk. What should I do about this? (and any suggestions on safari/chrome not working? I posted it in another subforum on here but I got nowhere)

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Port Stops Working On Location Change?

Apr 11, 2012

I seem to have a problem with my ethernet port not working after a specific location change...I have three locations I used frequently. Let's call them:

1) HomeWireless

2) WorkWireless (used when I'm in meetings)

3) WorkEthernet (used when I'm at my desk)

My general practice is to change locations just before putting my MacBook Pro to sleep, and then it is happily ready for the desired network when it is awoken.I'm not sure what this change in behavior coincided with, but as of ~1 month ago, I am finding that going from WorkWireless to WorkEthernet, my ethernet port appears to be completely dead and I have to reboot the computer to reactivate it (yes, I've checked the cable itself and the wall port at they're OK). I've tried a couple ways of disabling & re-enabling it in software, but I don't get the impression anything actually resets this interface - suggestions are welcome as perhaps I just didn't try the right thing. I couldn't find anything quite the same as "networksetup -setairportpower" for the ethernet port.Oddly, this is not an issue with going from HomeWireless to WorkEthernet. Both HomeWirelss and WorkWireless have the ethernet interface deactivated in the Network pref pane, and perhaps the only notable difference between HomeWirelss and WorkWireless is that I use a static IP on the former and dynamic on the latter.

Hardware :: AirPort And Ethernet Not Working Together Anymore?

Mar 11, 2009

I have shared my internet connection to my PC via ethernet many times (so my PC get the internet connection from a ethernet cable plugged into my MacBook which shares it's connection via AirPort).

Now suddenly it doesn't work, when I plug in the ethernet cable to my MacBook the internet connection dies whenever the ethernet connection starts working... I'm still connected to the wireless network, but can't use internet...

So the connection to internet dies whenever I try to share it to my PC from my Mac... Anybody know how to fix this?

Mac Mini :: Ethernet Port Seems To Have Stopped Working?

Apr 16, 2010

I've been having an annoying problem lately. The ethernet port on my Mac Mini seems to have stopped working. It happened when I was switching routers. Most likely I just unplugged it from the old router, and into the new one. After that, no more connection, nothing changes when I plug something in.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I've plugged it into other ports, and into my MacBook Air (Just to get a Self assigned IP) and nothing works. I know these ports work with my other computers. I've reset the SMC and PRAM.It works in bootcamp so this makes me think it's not hardware. Any other suggestions?

IMac PPC :: Ethernet Is Not Working / Safari Will Not Connect

Apr 7, 2012

On April 2nd I downloaded mail from my ISP mail server using Mac Mail. A couple of days later while downloading mail in Mac Mail all I get are the circles with the triangle. Safari will not connect. I worked with my ISP yesterday, and they think I have a bad cable(s). Today I connected a known good Ethernet cable from the computer to the DSL modem with the same results of no connection with Safari. I am therefore thinking something is wrong with the built in Ethernet. In an iMac PPC G4 flat screen, is Ethernet on a card or part of a chip? Any idea on the cost to fix the problem? There is an Apple Store close to where I live. Once all the cables are reconnected Wi-Fi does work. This leads me to believe that the problem is in the computer, and not the cables.

PowerPC :: One Ethernet Port / Internet Sharing Not Working

Mar 23, 2008

I'm renting a house for the week with several friends, and there's only one ethernet port. I figured I could plug one friend's Powerbook G4 into the ethernet, go into Sharing, turn on Internet Sharing, and then nearby computers could borrow the connection - this isn't working. The network doesn't even display on my other friend's powerbook. The little upwards arrow does not display ontop of the airport icon in the menubar, which I think it's supposed to, what's going wrong? I have "Personal Web Sharing" turned on under "Services," still no go...

PowerPC :: Ethernet Not Working Properly - Randomly Connects / Disconnects

Oct 11, 2006

I've been having problems staying connected on my Powerbook G4. The wireless works perfectly but the ethernet does not. I've been using the dorm ethernet jack to connect. The problem is that my computer can't maintain a consistent connection through ethernet so it randomly connects and disconnects. I called my campus' IT department and they told me that it must be my computer because they're system said that it didn't detect my computers IP address. I called Applecare and the person told me that it must be something wrong with either the network card or the ethernet port. Anyway, he gives me a case number so I can go get a repair. Unfortunately an Apple Store is far away from where my school is so I went to my school's bookstore instead.

The bookstore is an authorized service place. I drop the computer off to them and they sent it to Apple. I got a call today from the bookstore guy saying that the Apple technicians discovered that "liquid" had gotten into the motherboard and refused to service my computer. I was really angry when I heard this because I keep absolute care of my laptop. I know for a fact that no water has ever been around my laptop. I'm guessing it must have been negligence on the bookstore's part. I declined the $1300+ repair estimate so now its on its way back to me. I have a brother that works at the Apple Store and he just suggested going directly to an Apple Store this time. Will they just refuse warranty repair again?

OS X :: Ethernet Cable Connecting Ethernet Port To IPhone - Feasible?

May 20, 2009

I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.

OS X :: MacBook Will Not Connect Via Ethernet

So as of mid-day my Macbook will not connect to the internet in our apartment via ethernet. I have tried all my roomates ethernet plug ins and it still does not work. It shows a green light next to ethernet saying it his hooked up but it won't load any pages. I've tried network diagnostics? When I try to go to a webpage it goes to a white screen and after 5min of trying to load it bring up the "not connected to the internet" text. I guess I'll make a trip to the apple store wednesday if at all possible unless you guys come up with something. This machine is out of warranty so I'm wondering what would be the worse case scenario and how much am I looking at spending?

MacBook Pro :: Adding Second Ethernet Port

Nov 11, 2010

I'm looking to add a second ethernet port to my MacBook Pro using this product designed for the MacBook Air: [URL:...] Comments on the Apple site indicate that the device can be used with other computers, but I want to make completely sure it's going to do what I want it to do before I make the purchase. The reason I'm looking to do this is that I want to link my MB (via ethernet) to another laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate and use the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client to operate programs installed on the WIndows machine. The catch is that the internet at my current location (a university accommodation building) is also supplied by ethernet LAN and has some kind of detection system that prevents unauthorised routers from accessing the internet. So basically what I want to do is have the university LAN/internet running into the existing ethernet port on my Mac and then connect the ethernet port on the windows machine to the USB/Ethernet adapter plugged into one of the Mac's USB ports. The Windows machine does not have to have internet access. Is this possible? Will I be able to configure the two ethernet ports separately to operate two network connections? I understand the connections would require a different subnet mask and possibly a static IP for the computer-computer connection. That was a bit long-winded in the end.

MacBook :: Transfer Files Via Ethernet From One To Another?

Mar 18, 2008

Wanting to move a large number of files via ethernet from an older macbook to a newer one. Dont want to user MA either.

I know Ive seen it said that you can do this using Appletalk, but now I cant find any info about it. Googling, I only came up with links dealing with pc -> mac transfer, or old info, like g3 imac -> imac, that type of thing.

Seems when I saw this it said to use Appletalk from the network settings. Is that all it takes? Do I just check 'make appetalk active'? As far as the 'appletalk zone', what goes there? And I assume 'configure automatically' is the best selection there.
