OS X :: Slow Internet (imac, 10.5.7, 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, Memory 2GB DDR SDRAM)?
Aug 26, 2009My internet is very slow! It's not the service as I have 2 other computers who run very fast on wireless. I just replaced the ethernet cable which didn't do anything. My computer itself isn't that slow although it isn't fast either. It's a imac, 10.5.7, 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, memory 2GB DDR SDRAM.
I thought about switching it to wireless,I'm not sure as I don't see it on the top toolbar and I'm not sure how to set it up if my machine actually has it. Could my router be bad if my other computers are good?

I'm looking to connect the Mini to my HDMI TV. I've heard of getting an adapter but im not sure which one to get. I've also heard of no audio output in these adapters too. I have a late 2009 Mini but the miniDVI port is being used so the miniDisplayPort is available. Can anyone post a link to a adapter that will work and is under $20.

Feb 24, 2009I have Dual 1.8 GHZ Power PC G5 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, with OSX version 10.4.11.My computer has been getting increasingly crazy over the past couples weeks. I'm even having trouble typing this because the screen occasionally "flashes" or "jumps" when I'm in the middle of a task.I noticed the problem first when I would make a new folder. After an untitled folder was made, when I would try to give the folder a new name, the screen "jumped" and I would have to try several times before I could complete the task.

Apr 19, 2008I know there have been a lot of posts about installing additional memory - I even watched the installation video over at OWC. OWC video shows two factory 1GB memory sticks - one in Slot A of the upper riser board and one in Slot A of the lower riser board. It says to move the module from Slot A of the lower riser board and install it in Slot B of the upper riser board to make a matched pair.
But here's the question. I have 4GB of RAM - two 1GB modules in Slots A&B of each riser board from the factory (I know - I know - I should have ordered it with the stock RAM and purchased the extra at less than the exorbitant prices Apple charges - but that's another story). I want to add 4GB more (two 2GB modules):
Move the two 1GB factory modules from Slots A&B of the lower riser board into Slots C&D of the upper riser board and then install the two new 2GB modules into Slots A&B of the lower riser board (just as the OWC video implies)?
Leave the factory modules where they are and install one 2GB module in Slot C of each riser board to provide a "balanced" 4GB on each riser board?
Options #2 seems to provide a "balanced" module location (4GB in the upper riser board and 4GB in the lower riser) so the four cores on each CPU can access an equal amount of memory for optimum performance. - but I have read that you need to install the new modules in matched pairs - but does that mean put them together on the same riser board? In the OWC video, if the two new modules were a matched pair then why wouldn't they be put one in each riser board just like the factory modules?

Jan 19, 2009Ok i just want to make triple sure that this ram will indeed work in my imac 20" 2.0 (late 07 model) which uses ddr2 pc5300 667 200 pin ram.
The only thing that is striking me odd is that this is the only ram on neweggs site that seems to be compatible with an iMac that doesn't actually show up under their Apple > Mac Memory category

My problem is that I can't find a dvi-d cable shorter than 6'. Since the Mac Mini sits on my desk next to the monitor, I would like to have a short cable or one that would go directly from the computer to the monitor without an intervening 6' long cable. May 24, 2010So I finally went to the Apple Store and got my very first Mac, a MacBook Pro 13" .
Anyways, I got the baseline configuration that came with 4 GB of memory. Playing with the Activity Monitor, I noticed that after awhile of using the computer, the green "free" memory piece of the pie becomes progressively smaller until it's almost gone. Does that mean I have no more free memory left? But I'm not running a lot of programs at once. Just Safari and iTunes, maybe Pages too.

Dec 26, 2009maybe I haven't been paying attention but my HD seems to have a misc 50-150 GB of stuff on there that didn't seem to be there before, nor can I account for what it is. I have opened up the HD and gotten "info" on all folders there. The total amount of storage does not equal what the HD tells me I have. I get "info" on the HD and it says 300 GB used (20 GB left).The folders and size are as follows as listed on my HD:
Users: 154.46 GB
World of Warcraft (ashamed faced): 21.28 GB
Applications: 3.68 GB
Library: 6.34 GB
System: 4.49 GB
Limewire: 49.4 MB
Incompatible Software (?): 1.6 MB
Developer: 165 KB
iTunesShut: 479 KB
For a grand total of: 190.39 GB or so (not including the 50 mb or 644 kb) I'll include what is on my desktop as well (I assume it is already included on the list above but just incase).........

Oct 23, 2010 I know that the iFixIt tear down reveals Toshiba flash chips on the 11" MBA, but I was curious to know the following specs on the 13" MBA.
Does Apple use different suppliers for the different capacities/models (i.e. Samsung, Hynix, etc.)
I could make some guesses from the benchmark tests, but would like to have hard specs.
I tried contacting Apple, but the only thing they would tell me is the capacity available for purchase. I also don't have the guidelines to reference the flash specs based on the model of the Toshiba flash.

Apr 24, 2012I have had terrible problems with my Mac Mini. Apple has replaced the hard drive twice, the SATA cable once and the optical drive once in the first year I've had it. After the latest installation of Lion, I have had repeated problems with the error "Your Mac OS x startup disk has no more space available for application memory." This is false -- I have less than half of my 500 GB in use and 4 GB of wired memory.
I believe that Safari is always running when I get this error. Also, I cannot cleanly quit Safari -- I always must force quit, b/c it hangs when I quit. The last time I got this message, Safari was using 1.26 GB of memory.
My System Memory report is all out of whack:
VM size: 221.25 GB
Page ins: 1.59 GB
Page outs: 40.15 GB
Swap used: 59 GB
This is after only 1 or 2 days of uptime. I have just a couple of weeks left on my Apple Care and am desperate to know if this is hardware problem requiring my 5th trip to the Genius Bar or if this some kind of software problem that I can fix.
On this latest Lion install, I did a clean install with no settings or applications, and I killed extensions on Safari.
