I've got a Mac Mini at home, but I'm at work now and just have a quick question. I've noticed on the Apple marketing blurb that the Mini audio output will do Line Out as well as headphones. Do you have to switch the output over in Audio/MIDI setup or something?

Is there any way to setup the macbook air so that it can accept audio in? I want to play sound from a game console on the air's speakers using an audio cable.

MBP -> Mini-DisplayPort -> MDP/HDMI converter -> 4-way HDMI Splitter -> LCD Monitors
Now sometime during takedown, someone just decided to unplug something from my computer without consulting me or taking any proper precautions. Now my audio is stuck on Digital Output (type digital optical out). Here's what I know, and what I've tried.I have reset the PRAM/NVRAM?I have killed coreaudio a few times with no luck?I have deleted without progress:

This has been lacking on the optical audio output of the older models and would rock if it now has this feature.
i'm using my mac mini with the ACD 24" and i get the sound from the screen because it is "very slightly bettter" than the speaker of the mac mini (even if both are quite disappointing)
when i connected external speakers on the jack of the mini, it is simply impossible even with the soft soundsource to switch audio outputs on the fly
external speakers seem to have the priority over other outputs
is there a way to get through it ?
I have the latest and greatest Mac Mini. 2.26 with 4 g of ram. I update to Snow Leopard, and now it will not recognize that it has Digital Audio Output via a mini to a Toslink connection. Heck. I am running it through a Classe' Processor with B&W 804s Speakers and it previously worked with the previous Leopard.
View 22 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a new 1.83 core 2 duo at a price I couldn't pass up. I am going to use it as a HTPC so I have my hdmi cable, etc. All hooked up and ready to go. Last bit is the audio but I am having a bit of trouble. I bought a standard miniplug cable and assumed it would plug in just like my macbook. The problem is that the miniplug doesn't fit in the jack on the mini. I understand that the jack on the mini is a combo analog/optical jack but as you see below, it seems as though a standard miniplug y cable should work.

The headphone / line output jack accommodates digital optical audio output, analog audio output with a 24-bit, 44.1-192 kHz D/A converter, digital audio output up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-192 kHz sampling rate and supporting encoded digital audio output (AC3 and DTS). For analog headphone / line output a standard audio cable with 3.5mm metal plug should be used.
For digital audio, a standard toslink cable with a toslink mini-plug adapter can be used.I have done my research and some reading and can go out and buy an optical cable plus a miniplug/optical adapter but would rather go the analog route (I understand the quality difference) because I already have the cables and don't have a receiver or speakers, just my tv speakers.
Alright so I go the new 21.5 inch and love it but I was wondering if the Mini-Display Port does audio for the HDMI output. Because if it did, that would be wonderful.

For some reason, I can't get Logic Express 8 to output audio to my Mac's attached speakers. It outputs fine through my M-Audio interface, though, but I'd just like to listen without headphones.
Seems like it should be a straight forward deal, but it's not obvious how to make this happen. I can tell the audio is coming in, as the input levels are reflected under System Pref's. But I can't hear the audio on the line-out speakers and there doesn't seem to be an option to explicitly route the audio.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have audio that is being sent to my MBP through an audio in line that I would like to monitor for audio quality. The only way I know how to listen in real time to the audio is by way of Audio Recorder, but it seems a little unnecessary to have a recording application open simply to listen to my media that is being sent in. Is there a feature already part of OS X that allows me to turn this on? I looked in system prefs, but couldn't find anything to enable this. I will resort to audio recorder if I have to, but would be very happy if this was already a feature.

The only thing holding him back is that he has an analog surround sound system he uses for his speakers. I am having a hard time myself finding a converter that can make his speakers work in the iMac's optical digital output port. Any products out there that will do that?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI play movies stored on my iMac through my speaker system and HDTV using a Mini Display to HDMI cable plugged into my reciever. I'm currently piecing together a 5.1 seperates system but currently only have the front left, front right and centre speakers (3.0). I've played around to try and get the iMac to output though all three speakers but the audio only comes through the left and right channels and ignores the centre speaker completely. Even when I set the output in the 'Audio MIDI Setup' to 5.1 it still doesn't recognise a centre channel.Stereo output is fine but it would be nice to get the centre speaker in use rather than just sitting there in silence.

when you're recording, will the sound quality of the dual function line in audio port on the 13" be as good as the dedicated one on the 15"?
edit: the reason I'm wondering is because I want to convert old collections of vinyl records into digital copies at the highest quality possible and need to know if the 'line in' on the 13" will work good for that.
I have a 2nd monitor and hooked up my xbox 360 to it. I have it connected through HDMI and then have a regular audio jack going from the monitor to my Mac Pro. When I open up my sound preferences and select: Line In - Audio Line In the "Input Level" bar goes up and down meaning it is registering or hears the sound coming from my xbox.
For some reason though, the sound will not output from my Mac Pro. My speakers which are connected to Line Out: Built In Line Output still outputs sound coming from my mac pro but it won't output the sound from my 360. Is there a remedy for this?

Line In - Audio Line In is "hearing" the sound from my xbox 360 as the "Input Level" bar goes up and down.
Line Out - Built In Line Output still outputs sound from my Mac Pro but not the 360.
Is there a way to fix this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI normally leave my speaker output balanced right in the middle (under System Prefs>Sound>Output), however I have noticed that my audio output has been going out of balance by itself recently.
One speaker will sound louder than the other and sure enough, I'll go to the system prefs and the balance will be off. Nobody has else uses my machine and I know that I don't ever touch the audio output.
I have an iBook G4 running 10.4.11 connected to a pair of Brookstone speakers and subwoofer.
My audio/midi setup says "output not supported". As a result when I plug in my Ipod, or a CD player, into the mic jack (audio input) on my Mac Mini I can't get the audio to play out of the speakers or headphone jack. Soo...I just picked up a mini to run plex and use as a media center. Hooking it up to my projector via VGA cable. When I set the display settings to the native resolution on the projector there is a small black line or bar down the left hand side of the screen. Not on the right but only on the left. why this would be happening?

I've read the reviews and they were all really great. The cable is excellent for images; however, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do the sound.
The reviews said that the audio output option under system preferences should show up with the receiver, but all it has is my computer speakers.
My audio headphone jack is not working anymore and I want to use my line-in as my audio out. Since I don't use them that much. So I can use headphones/speakers again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a Headroom Headphone Total Bithead mobile Amp., 2.66 MacPro, and Sennheiser HD650's (that are hard to drive). The amp. has a high and low gain switch. The low gain sounds better, but I can't get enough vol. when on low gain. I've got iTunes level up as high as it can go. I've played around with Sound prefs. and the Audio/Midi sound levels. They all seem to actually be the same vol. control.
I also see that iTunes, under "Get Info" has an individual vol. adjustment, but I'm not sure if I really want the sound files to be pumped up for when I use them on my iPhone.
When I watch a video on youtube (or any other sites), I cannot hear the audio. This has happened before. What's the fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving gone through the settings, i have a speaker system plugged into my white macbook through the 3.5mm audio jack. I am running OS X Leopard 10.5.7 and am unable to find the options that i thought were available previously in tiger to configure the speaker setup/orientation. For example whether i am using satellite speakers, or 2 speakers either side, 3 4 or whatever it was, just like i would if i was using windows. It has a section under "Sound" then "Output", however it seems to be automated, i cannot add or remove, or edit items within the list.
