Mac Mini :: Finder Interface Really Small - How To Maximize Visibility Of Contents

Jun 20, 2012

When I am scouring the finder for files, I find it difficult not to see a thumb of each file folder and have to fiddle with the choices at the top. Is there a way to have maximum visibility of the contents of finder? Or Is there an application that works better than finder?

OS X :: Showing Small Preview In Final Column Of Finder

Mar 25, 2010

I'm running 10.6.2 on my Rev A 13" MBP and have noticed an oddity in Finder over the last couple of months (I'm not sure when it started). If I have Finder open in Column View, I used to be able to choose a jpg and it would show a small preview in the final column of Finder.

Now, it shows the word Preview with the triangle to open and close the preview, along with the file information, but no actual preview. It's the same in Get Info on the file in question. I've tried switching Icon Preview on and off in View Options, I've tried moving the Finder plist file to the desktop and restarting the machine.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Finder Not Displaying File Contents

Jun 22, 2012

I have dropbox and configured it to show the icon on the tray over the left of my day/time.  When I click onto the folder via Finder, I see the folder icon.  The "Info" for this folder should allow me to read/write to the folder. However, when I ask to see the contents, I do not get a listing of the  files within the folder.  I am very frustrated since I have been struggling to resolve this configuration issue out on my own. It is most likely 'user issue' which led me here.  However, I am at my ropes end.

Mac Mini :: 46" TV As Monitor - Font Viewable / Too Small

Jul 29, 2008

I have a Mini that I am going to be using as an HTPC. I would also like to use it just to surf and check E's and general stuff like that. My question is that if I am sitting 6-8 ft. away from a 46" TV will the font be viewable or will it be to small (or fuzzy) to be a practical surfing set up. Anyone have any experience with this type of set-up? TW - the TV I am looking at getting is a Samsung Touch of Color LCD.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Folder Not Showing All Contents (but Contents Are In Fact There)

Mar 12, 2012

I'm running Lion on an 27" iMac (first i7 iteration), and have a folder on an external HDD that contains a couple of hundred subfolders.

However - when viewing them in Finder, only the first hundred or so display.

The others are there - searching the disc finds the folders and their contents and, once, the contents are located, they'll display in the expanded view.

I copied the offending folder across to the Mac's main HD, but this behaviour came across with it.  This, by the way, was happening on Snow Leopard too before I upgraded to Lion.

OS X :: How To Maximize A Window

On the PC, doing so causes that window to go to full screen. On the Mac, it appears to only increase the window to some size larger than the current size, but does not go 'full screen'.

OS X :: Mac Mini Won't Work On The Finder Within The Home Network

Mar 15, 2009

I have 4 Mac's in my household, 2 MBP's, a Mac Pro ,and a Mac Mini. I can find the Mac Pro and both MBP's on Back to my Mac but the problem is with the Mac Mini.I am able to see any of the computers from the Mac Mini but the Mac Mini won't show up on any of the computers. This would be the case using Back to My Mac and won't even work on the Finder within the home network. The Mac Mini simply won't show up in the Finder.
I have Leopard on the system with the latest updates and have gone through the settings and can't find anything that is turned off.

Mac Mini :: New Folder Icon Grayed Out In Finder?

Jun 4, 2012

I can find the "new folder" icon, but it is grayed out in the finder window.  I am trying to add a new folder under the "administrator" log in on my Mac Mini and it won't let me and it won't let me under any user name.  I am trying to add a new folder under the "Public" folder. I have search high and low on the internet and have not been able to find an answer.  How do I turn on the ability to add a new folder?

I have tried "read & write" under sharing and also under "get info", neither of these gave me the ability to add a new folder.

I am sure it is a really simple answer as I can do it on my MacBook Pro, but can't on the Mac Mini.

Mac Mini :: Finder Failures And External USB Disks

Jun 10, 2012

My 2009 mac-mini started acting up about 2 months ago.The symptoms were:

-- slow response
-- freezing for no apparent reason the going again
-- failure to shutdown forcing use of the power button
-- long boot times
-- finder would freeze and could not be relaunched
-- iTunes would not quit
-- trying to view files on external drives may take an excessive time

I tried "everything" to try to resolve the problem.None of this worked:

-- zapped the parameter ram
-- cleared disk permissions
-- repaired disks
-- booted to safe mode
-- ran fsck
-- reinstalled Snow Leopard

There were several articles that discussed how to "reliably restart the finder". urls....Although none of the suggestions in the article or in the discussion provided any relief, I was finally convinced that I needed to disconnect all of my external drives and reboot. It appears that we have finally discovered the culprit.I have 4 external drives:

-Seagate GoFlex 3TB USB
-Seagate GoFlex 2TB USB
-Seagate 1.5TB Firewire

Toshiba 0.5TB USB (Used for Carbon Copy Clone of the internal drive)Booting from this drive did not change the problem. With all of them removed my computer worked just fine.Adding back the 3TB USB and the 1.5TB Firewire, I still have a working system.Since discovery of this error, I've found several articles complaining that this bug has been around long enough that it should have been fixed by now.Apparently Apple points fingers at the disk drive maker and the drive makers point back at Apple.Refering back to the article above, (the HTTP link), these same symptoms seem to appear because of some rogue applications. It -may- be that because I am using Crashplan 3.2.1 to backup this "broken" disk to another locally attached disk, that Crashplan is the "rogue" application. However, I've been using Crashplan for nearly 3 years and have found it to be a great app -- much more reliable than Time Machine (which proved to be nearly worthless when my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard died and was replaced with a MacBook Pro running Lion.
