there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.
View 6 Replies View Relatedjust the other day I opened my laptop to find a thin green line run from the top of the screen down to the bottom. It's towards the left side. I don't know how it got there, what it is, or anything about it. I've tried restarting my computer, turning it off, etc.

basically i bought my macbook literally two days ago and it worked perfectly for the first day and it still does except for the fact that there is a mysterious black line on the screen that appeared from nowhere! i have tried restarting it multiple times and i have never touched the screen violently...when i take a screen capture it doesn't show!!! i could swear I've never even touched the screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my MacBook Pro since November so it's still new. I take great care of it. This morning, I opened it up and noticed a small black line present under the screen. It has not been dropped, moved, beaten up, etc. It doesn't look like a broken pixel and all of the dead pixel fixers I have tried have not worked. Not sure what to do now. I live two hours away from the closest apple store and I cannot afford to send it out for fixing because I am an online student and need the computer daily.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI bought a imac 21.5" less than a year ago and I just sent it in to get fixed because of black clouding underneath the LCD panel anyways after sending it away for over a month (and they gave me a piece of crap pc laptop for a loaner) i get it back it's good as new, 2 weeks later (today) now this pink line is stuck across my screen so i;ve been reading some threads and this problem doesn't go away anyway i'm getting pissed off with this i'm about to buy another one so I always have one thats not in the shop (ridiculous) or a pc, i really like my imac but this sucks,, what should I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently, a vertical black line (maybe slightly dotted) appeared running down the screen of my iMac G5 (Power PC processor). On the left of the line the screen appears fuzzy while on the right it's OK.
Has anyone experienced this before? Hope to hear from someone who has.
So today I noticed a small black bar on the corner of my screen. I tried to get a screen shot of it, but i couldn't, like it was off the screen. However, my mouse dissapears under it when i move it there. It is a little hard to distinguish because it is the 2.4 ghz macbook aluminum, glossy screen so it has the black surrounding it, but it is definably there. This all along the right hand edge of the screen.
Although there is a chance it may have always been there, I am not so sure. I think there are lines along the top and left hand sides, but they are much smaller. again it is hard to tell. I am fairly sure that there is none on the bottom of screen. Is this normal, or what? I have applecare, and I didn't do anything to my macbook. Although it is getting me a little OCDish, and is slightly annoying, and I know these things on the screen tend to expand.
I have an iMac 2.8 24 inch, about Two years old running 10.5.7 , when I start the computer it shows the normal Gray screen for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes all Black , but with a small flashing white line ( _ ) in the top Left hand side corner.
It just stays all Black for ever , I then hold down the On / Off button and turn off the computer, I then hold down the keyboard '' option key '' and press the on button at the same time , then I get the option to start from the main HDD , I click the Icon and the computer then starts normally , and every thing runs ok.
Can some one please tell me what I have to do to get my iMac to start up normally again , Ive run Repair Disk permissions but the problem still occurs . Over the last few day's Ive been trying out a few new applications, so not too sure if this has any thing to do with this current problem
took to shop to get hard drive replaced and noticed when home that there is a thin red line running down the display. shop had a hard time putting the 2 halves together again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had this iMac about a year now, and i have had this problem for a while but thought i'de leave it for abit and see if it heals its self. As sometimes the line is more visible than other times and sometimes it's not even there!
I have 2 pictures which i snapped with my iPhone, so i will link you too them.
The line is not majorly visible, but it is just annoying considering i payed 1000 for this iMac.

I have only recently started noticing this, it is mostly visible on the white screen at boot up but just faintly noticed it now against my background.
It is a fading black line going down the left hand side of the screen, it starts at the top kind of fades in the middle then comes out again.
I honestly have no idea what this is, i will try catch a picture on my phone soon and post it up.
Cheers.
UPDATE: Sometimes the line is clear, sometimes it is faint and even sometimes it isn't even there!
I have looked at a couple of screen protectors for the macbook pro, & wondered if the piece of thin foam that comes with a new macbook pro that fits between the keyboard & screen? could this be used as a screen protector? or would a bought screen protector made by another company be better?
View 18 Replies View Relatedmy macbook pro screen has two thin green lines running down the screen from top to bottom. i have run the apple hardware test and it has detected an error. unfortunately i am in a remote village for the next two months and unable to get my macbook to a repair centre. What the thin green lines indicate?, whether the error on the hard drive and the green lines are connected or something different? the lap top seems to be working fine however im concerned that as i cant get to a repair place for the next 2 months whether continued use will damage the computer further?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSoo...I just picked up a mini to run plex and use as a media center. Hooking it up to my projector via VGA cable. When I set the display settings to the native resolution on the projector there is a small black line or bar down the left hand side of the screen. Not on the right but only on the left. why this would be happening?
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust received the new 13" macbook air yesterday and today have noticed some very thin horizontal banding lines across the bottom portion of the screen.
Has anyone else noticed this, or check to see if your one has this problem.
It is quite subtle but it makes the icons on the dock look as if they have a card like effect through them.
Easiest to check if you make your screen wallpaper the dark grey colour.
On this the top part of the screen seems consistent, but at the bottom part there is very thin white horizontal lines. I tried updating the software, but it seems to be the same - looks like a faulty display may have to send back, wondering if it could be fixed with a software update.
The strange thing is black and dark colours do not produce the effect it only shows up on greys or medium contrast colours like blue.
Before I log into my iMac there is a black curved line on the left.

I have a new MacBook Pro (A1286) 2.66Ghz which is just over two weeks old. Whilst watching a video on YouTube a horizontal line appeared across the screen. I tried rebooting, however, the line was still present. I have tried switching between the 9400/9600 and the line is still visible.
The line is still there when I boot the laptop into Windows, does it look like I have a faulty GPU/logicboard on my brand new MacBook?
Here's a photo of the problem.

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?
