I just bought a new MacPro - Quad-Core Nehelem 2.8 GHz. Before booting the first time I installed four Kingston 8Gb DDR3 ECC DIMMS, 1066 MHz (registered, with thermal sensor). It shows 32Gb memory installed, but lists their speed as 800 MHz. I assume this is a sign of a memory problem, but I'm wondering if there's some hardware or OS issue I'm missing.

My iMac is from 2008, the first 3.06GHz version one (with Nvidia 8800 gfx card etc). When I got this one, I read somewhere that this was the first iMac to get the bus speed 1066MHz. When I look under information, it confirms this: "Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz". I instantly upgraded the memory to 4 GB from a local computer shop back then. When I look in the information, under memory I have: "Type: "Speed: 800 MHz"". Do I have too slow memory for the computer? I mean it runs fine and everything but I'm just wondering if I could potentially have faster memory in this computer. Would it make a big difference if this was the case? When looking in computer stores I can't really find memory that has the label SO-DIMM DDR2 - 1066MHz, so maybe I have the right one?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have got the 2.4ghz aluminium macbook, and I upgraded the ram to 4GB about a 2 months back. I have always felt that my macbook is slower now than before the upgrade(which is strange), but recently the situation became worst. My macbook would randomly heats up very quickly, iStats pro would show me that i only have 1-10MB of free memory, my fan would be running on 6200rpm. response rate would be much slower, and circle of rainbow also occurs much more often.I get panic whenever this happens(i have only got my macbook for 5-months), so when that happens i usually try to quit those application that i am not using like mail, safari, iwork 09 and etc. It didn't really help much(or maybe not at all) until at some point(around about 30-45mins) the systems automatically cools down, reduce fan speed and etc but similar problem would happen again in 30mins.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI ha e 2x2gb of 1066 ddr3 ram sitting here. I am going to buy an iMac. I can't decide between the refurb 27 core2duo, the refurb 27 core i5 or the new 21.5" i3. Of course I am torn between cost and performance. I would prefer the bigger display but it's not necessary. If I could use my existing ram in the new 21.5 that may put it as the winner but I am unsure if I can mix 1066 and 1333 ram or not. If not then I will probably get the refurb 27 and then it's just to decide between i5 or core2duo

View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased a brand new Macbook Pro from Best Buy a few months back, it is the 13" unibody with a 2.26 ghz dual core processor and came with 2gb of memory installed. I just bought the two sticks of memory from [URL] which were Kingston DDR3 1066 204-pins, 4gb each. My friend told me that my Macbook Pro will only support up to 6gb, but my manual says that it supports up to 8gb. He also said that people have been having trouble with their motherboards by installing too much (8gb) of memory. I've done some research and looks like I'm good to go, but just want some reassurance before I install the new memory. One last thing, he also told me that 8gb is only supported on the i7 processors?

I went online and baught the following memory that should be compatible with my eMAC:
512MB 64x64 non-ecc
PC133 133Mhz, 168 pin SDRAM
Unbuffered, Non ECC, Non Registered
7.5ns, 3.3v, CL 3 or CL 2
Sometimes in ALL programs (so far) I am not able to click certain stuff. For example, when I'm in Safari (4.0) I try to click a link but nothing happens. It shows me the clicking finger thing and I am able to scroll (I can not use the two finger scroll on the trackpad only the sidebar) and I am able to move the window around. I have found that I can fix it sort of by clicking the link millions of times. Oh also I can not right click the link but I can right click everywhere else.
I thought maybe it might be some of my 3rd party software but I doubt it. The only things I have installed are geekTool and this Cleardock replacement called Mirage.

my macbook aluminum seems to be very weird. It recognises all the other gestures (two fingers, click, tap, drag-lock, etc) but i can not drag it the way i did before =(
so when i drag like pretending there is a button on my trackpad, the item got released very easily! I don't know why this is happening! If it isn't clear, i'll post a video later.
I have done all the updates, the trackpad update and performance update and 10.6.2 update. I don't know how to fix it!
I have a Macbook from 2008 that I've had for just under two years now. The bottom row of keys (zxcvbnm,.) often do not register my keystrokes. For example I would push the keys and nothing would happen on screen. Its never been near water, I haven't had the need to clean it with a sponge or anything since I've had it.
I was wondering if Apple could replace my keyboard if I sent it in. I'm unsure since the keys actually work about a third of the time what the best (and least expensive) route to take is.
I have a Unibody MacBook Pro (Summer 09) and I'd say my trackpad registers about 25 of every 30 clicks. So sometimes I click something (a link, etc.) and nothing happens but then I click it again and it works. The multi-touch gestures still work as advertised, just the clicks aren't working. I updated all of the stuff that was in the Software Updater and nothing's changed.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI got Apple Care at the same time as I bought my 2010 Macbook Pro (at an Apple Store). First of all, I did not get an Apple Care box - just a receipt with the agreement number and other Apple Care particulars. Is this normal?
Second, I read somewhere that you need to register Apple Care?? The Apple Store sales rep did not say anything about registration. So do I still need to register - or is it only for people who buy Apple Care separately from the hardware? And if I do have to register, how do I go about it?
In MobileMe System Preferences, in the Sync panel at the top, there is a checkbox entitled "Synchronize with MobileMe". When I try to check the box, it will not stay checked, keeps reverting to unchecked. I have an active and paid up Me account and have signed in to it. This problem may be related to the fact that I cannot register my computer by clicking the Advanced lozenge at the bottom of the same page. My computer just keeps trying to register and never succeeds.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy PNY attache hook 16gb flash drive was working for about 2 hours with my macbook, but I ran into a problem with itunes and was forced to restart my macbook pro. The usb was only plugged in, no files on it, none in transfer. After the restart I pluged the usb back in and it no longer shows up, I tried using "diskutil list" in terminal and it didn't show up. I have tried all the usb ports on my macbook and it still does not show. Did I somehow corrupt the drive so much that it doesn't even register in terminal? Should I try to get a refund? Or, can I fix this some way on a software/firmare level?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf one buys a brand new sealed macbook pro from a private seller off craigslist/ebay/kijiji without a receipt can they register it with Apple? I know if one checks the serial number it will tell if there is warranty on the machine and an estimated purchase date. However, I was told by Apple that I would not be able to purchase and attach applecare to the machine because there was no prooof that the machine was infact purchased by someone - but that the machine does have one year warranty from the estimated purchase date.
Wondering if anyone has encountered such a situation where they bought a machine privately and then wanted to add applecare to it within the standard one year warranty period and was denied by Apple because there was no proof of purchase for the hardware. Or was the Apple rep just misinformed - if a machine is under one year warranty then one can purchase and apply applecare anytime within the one year.
Wondering if buy a machine and then 3 months down the road decide to buy applecare, has anybody been denied adding that applecare even though the machine is covered under the one year warranty. Also has anyone resistered hardware in their name without proof of purchase other than an ebay/craigslist printout?
since day 1 of unboxing my 15" i7 mbp, ive realized that the caps locks button doesn't register sometimes when pressing it. I would test it out by pressing it a couple times and see if the green light will go on and off as i click.....and i've had times where i would press it 3-4 times in a row and it wont register. But for the most part it would register 60-70% of the time. ever other time i press it, it wont register.
Pretty much its not 100% accurate. anybody have this issue? or ways to fix it?
After you register Logic 9, are you meant to receive an email saying it's registered etc (?) As I haven't got one yet.
