Just wondering if I have to buy another one, or use the one I already have but has different speed.

I used to buy Mac DDR3 ram from New Egg, I used to buy Crucial but they no longer sell it, so I want to stick with Crucial since it works the best, but wondering where everyone else is getting their ram and what brand.?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ha e 2x2gb of 1066 ddr3 ram sitting here. I am going to buy an iMac. I can't decide between the refurb 27 core2duo, the refurb 27 core i5 or the new 21.5" i3. Of course I am torn between cost and performance. I would prefer the bigger display but it's not necessary. If I could use my existing ram in the new 21.5 that may put it as the winner but I am unsure if I can mix 1066 and 1333 ram or not. If not then I will probably get the refurb 27 and then it's just to decide between i5 or core2duo
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new MacPro - Quad-Core Nehelem 2.8 GHz. Before booting the first time I installed four Kingston 8Gb DDR3 ECC DIMMS, 1066 MHz (registered, with thermal sensor). It shows 32Gb memory installed, but lists their speed as 800 MHz. I assume this is a sign of a memory problem, but I'm wondering if there's some hardware or OS issue I'm missing.

I'm sure there are some sticks that aren't compatible but is there any difference b/w the PC2 a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) takes and a PC?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a brand new Macbook Pro from Best Buy a few months back, it is the 13" unibody with a 2.26 ghz dual core processor and came with 2gb of memory installed. I just bought the two sticks of memory from [URL] which were Kingston DDR3 1066 204-pins, 4gb each. My friend told me that my Macbook Pro will only support up to 6gb, but my manual says that it supports up to 8gb. He also said that people have been having trouble with their motherboards by installing too much (8gb) of memory. I've done some research and looks like I'm good to go, but just want some reassurance before I install the new memory. One last thing, he also told me that 8gb is only supported on the i7 processors?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend has a 20 inch iMac (model MB324LL/A) and he has bought 2x4GB SO-DIMMS from cosair. He has put them in and the mac wont recognise them, however it will recognise and boot up with 6GB (using 1 old chip and 1 new one) and he has tried swapping the chips about to make sure one is not faulty.
According to cruicial and Apple the max supported is 4GB but if it runs on 6GB can he get it to work on 8GB somehow?
On my iMac g4 I've got 2 different ram ddr2 speed sticks in there. The standard 256mb apple shipping stick and a faster sodimm, (1.0ghz iMac). My question is will this work just fine, I mean it boots and runs fine or will I get compatibility issues later on?

How much of a difference in these specs?
I see MacMALL is selling MBA with the former in both categories and i didnt know how much it will affect my performance. Should i spend the money for the upgraded specs?
I am trying to upgrade the RAM in my white macbook from 2 GB to 4GB using the RAM from a Sony VAIO laptop. If I put both 2 GB sticks from the other laptop in, my computer turns on but does not boot. The screen never turns on. If i have one of the original sticks in, and one of the new sticks in, it boots up fine and the system profiler recognizes the new RAM and says it is in working order. Why can't I boot with both sticks in? They are both DDR2 667MHz sticks and are all working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.67ghz G4 PowerBook that has the dreaded lower ram slot failure. This limits me to 1gb of ram, though the machine works fine otherwise. My understanding is that this PowerBook does not accept more than 2gb ram..... So, my question is this: Will this PB not accept more than 2gb ram total, or will it simply not accept DDR2 larger than 1gb each, be it one or two??

I have a 2006 Mac Pro and I'm wondering if CrossFireX is possible on this system. Specifically with two 5770s.
My understanding is that CrossFireX requires two PCIe 2.0 16x slots. However, the 2006 Mac Pro only has PCIe 1.x slots, and with two cards, it's only possible to have its slots running at 8x. Does this prevent CrossFireX from working at all, or is it simply a case of it working fine but running at reduced performance?
I currently have an original 2006 Mac Pro (dual 2.66GHz) which has served me well over the past 4+ years but I'm thinking that the time has come to look for a replacement.
Here are the replacement machines I've been looking at along with my thoughts...
2010 MacPro - 2.8GHz Quad
While I like the price point ($2500), I'm not sure how much of a performance boost I will get over my current machine. Also the processor architecture is the previous generation (Nehalem vs Westmere). Is that a legit concern?
2010 MacPro - 3.2GHz Quad
Once again, chip architecture and performance (to a lesser extent due to the higher clock speed) are concerns but $2,900 is doable from a financial standpoint.
2010 MacPro - 3.33GHz Hex
This is the one I really want but $3,700 is out of my price range.
2009 MacPro (Refurbished) - 2.93GHz Quad
This configuration drew some interest when I saw it in the refurbished section of the Apple Online Store mainly due to the $2,500 price tag.
The computer will be mainly used for graphics creation/editing (Photoshop) and web development (Dreamweaver) as well as for web surfing, e-mail, photo and music management and MS Office applications. I also run Parallels because there are a couple of applications that I need to run that are Windows-only.
So my question to the MacRumors' community is which of the above machines would you recommend or should I just stand pat with my 2006 MacPro and wait for the next refresh.
I did consider an iMac but the 21" is a little underpowered IMO and the 27" will not fit on my desk.
My mac pro won't display anything. I've had a look at this [URL] and one of the first things I did was reset the PRAM & NVRAM. The 10.6.8 install is fully updated. The startup chime plays and fans run normally.Â
I have:Â re-sat the RAM,cleaned the RAMcleaned the insideremoved all the HDDs except the main oneand even used another Raedon 4850 in place of mine.Â
It starts up in Target-Disk mode fine, I am using it with my iMac now but it is not the same (iMac is only dual core andhas half the RAM) I've tried several screens; DVI, VGA and HDMI all without luck. It's obviouslt out of warranty and I don't want to take it to a Apple store anyway as I ocassionally build & repair computers myself so am fine with trying anything out.Â
Things I could do/ haven't done:Â Remove/ replace the Logic Board battery?test the power I/O?start in Safe Mode?

So I was using my early 2006 MacBook (1.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, tiny amount of RAM) to view a YouTube video, and it froze (gave me rotating rainbow thingy). Since this happens often, I got up to put the computer on the table and do something else. When I picked the computer up, the power cord caught on the table and was pulled off of the computer. Since the battery is 100% dead, the computer shut off abruptly. I've also done this before without trouble. When I go to turn it on, however, now the screen flashes white for a split-second (normal), and I get a gray screen. Eventually, I get a flashing folder with ?. I've tried reseating the hard drive, and pressing down various keys when it starts up, but to no avail. I have a Genius Bar appointment tomorrow, but I was wondering if I could fix it for free... I'm not sure what OS it is, but it's OS X Tiger, I think.
