Does anyone know if this will work. I find they cost the same for 4 gb. I was thinking then I would have flexibility to put into another machine in the future. I know in the PC world this is possible. Not sure about macs.
View 3 RepliesI purchased a brand new Macbook Pro from Best Buy a few months back, it is the 13" unibody with a 2.26 ghz dual core processor and came with 2gb of memory installed. I just bought the two sticks of memory from [URL] which were Kingston DDR3 1066 204-pins, 4gb each. My friend told me that my Macbook Pro will only support up to 6gb, but my manual says that it supports up to 8gb. He also said that people have been having trouble with their motherboards by installing too much (8gb) of memory. I've done some research and looks like I'm good to go, but just want some reassurance before I install the new memory. One last thing, he also told me that 8gb is only supported on the i7 processors?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI ha e 2x2gb of 1066 ddr3 ram sitting here. I am going to buy an iMac. I can't decide between the refurb 27 core2duo, the refurb 27 core i5 or the new 21.5" i3. Of course I am torn between cost and performance. I would prefer the bigger display but it's not necessary. If I could use my existing ram in the new 21.5 that may put it as the winner but I am unsure if I can mix 1066 and 1333 ram or not. If not then I will probably get the refurb 27 and then it's just to decide between i5 or core2duo

My iMac currently has a 1Gig 800 DDR2 memory stick inserted and I was wondering if I can add a 1Gig 667 DDR2, or do I have to use another 800 DDR2?

I have a Dec 08 purchased 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4G of 800 MHz DDR 2 SDRAM installed and lovely it is too
I note the new iMac's now use DDR3 RAM and wonder (for future reference only) if the DDR3 RAM would work in my iMac if I swapped sticks.
I suppose whilst I'm on a roll of asking a question....I may as well try another one.....
Would (again for future reference) the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB be fitable (if that was a word....which it is not) in place of my GS 8800 512.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade the RAM in my white macbook from 2 GB to 4GB using the RAM from a Sony VAIO laptop. If I put both 2 GB sticks from the other laptop in, my computer turns on but does not boot. The screen never turns on. If i have one of the original sticks in, and one of the new sticks in, it boots up fine and the system profiler recognizes the new RAM and says it is in working order. Why can't I boot with both sticks in? They are both DDR2 667MHz sticks and are all working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to a Apple 10.4.11. I have this annoying problem I can't figure out. With my previous Mac, I could put anything on my desktop anywhere I wanted. For some reason, on this desktop, there only seem to be a limited number of "slots." By slots, I mean each item can only be placed on a specific place and there is a specific amount of space between and around each item. Once these are used up, any additional items pile on top of each other. It looks like I have five rows of six items each (you name it, pictures, Word documents, Excel documents, etc.) I hate this. I want to be able to put or move anything anywhere I want. How do I fix this?

When I place a file in trash I get a warning that the file will be deleted if I continue. I just want to place files there and delete them later. I tried to fix the problem by using terminal and typing:
$ rm -rf ~/.Trash/mkdir ~/.Trash/
But when I try to use mkdir I get a permission denied.

I just bought a new MacPro - Quad-Core Nehelem 2.8 GHz. Before booting the first time I installed four Kingston 8Gb DDR3 ECC DIMMS, 1066 MHz (registered, with thermal sensor). It shows 32Gb memory installed, but lists their speed as 800 MHz. I assume this is a sign of a memory problem, but I'm wondering if there's some hardware or OS issue I'm missing.

He has put them in and the mac wont recognise them, however it will recognise and boot up with 6GB (using 1 old chip and 1 new one) and he has tried swapping the chips about to make sure one is not faulty.
According to cruicial and Apple the max supported is 4GB but if it runs on 6GB can he get it to work on 8GB somehow?
On my iMac g4 I've got 2 different ram ddr2 speed sticks in there. The standard 256mb apple shipping stick and a faster sodimm, (1.0ghz iMac). My question is will this work just fine, I mean it boots and runs fine or will I get compatibility issues later on?
