Sep 9, 2010I just got iWork 09, but it asks to me to register the product with Apple. What's the benefit of doing this? Is there any harm in not registering the product?

MacBook Pro :: Benefit To Install The OS X / Ilife 09 / IWork?
Sep 12, 200916Gb ST Lab SSD drive - I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a benefit to install the OS / ilife 09 / iWork in here, would I see an improvement in terms of performance in comparison to my 320Gb 5400 (which I will soon be upgrading to a scorpioblack 500Gb)
Install a memorycard reader in here as at the moment I am transferring my digital pictures either via usb from camera or via an adaptor.
Ideally I would like to go with option one, but only if that actually improves the performance of my system.

Macbook Pro running Mac OSX 10.5.8
(Office 2008) Word, Exel, PowerPoint, (Iwork 2009) Numbers, Pages will not save:.
I tossed the Word Plist file and that did not work.
I have run Virus Barrier X5 and found a about 10 files with Virus 'W97M/Pinky.B' "Quarantened" them and still have the problem.
The problem started -- I think -- when I was doing heavy editing between Numbers and Word. But I don't think it is related (though who knows at this point). Without these programs I'm rendered pretty useless.

May 29, 2010I need to update iWork on my Mac cos iWork 08 docs don't work on my new iPad. But iWork 09 is about 18 months old now so surely will be updated soon. Would anyone who is learned in the product cycle of Mac apps care to hazard an educated guess on an update?

Feb 8, 2009So I used the iWork '09 trial for 30 days now and now I have a box version and I want to simply use the buy function from the trial to upgrade to the full non-trial version. It has: Quote: If you've purchased an iWork '09 box, you'll find the serial number on the Installing iWork '09 booklet. There's only one problem, there's no serial number on the booklet! How do I install using the buy function or do I have to install the full iWork suite again on my computer? Seems kind of silly. If so, do I need to then uninstalling one of my versions of iWork '09? And if so, which one? How do I tell the difference at that point?
Some of you might be wondering and about to comment on the fact that I should have just bought the online version and saved the hassle. The reason why I bought the box is because I could get it for $39 at my girlfriend's campus computer store.

Oct 2, 2010I held down the 6 and 4 keys and booted up into 64 bit kernel on my mac pro 3.1 fine.
I checked and all my extensions are 64 bit, but not all software is.
So far, all of my stuff works fine- the printer, scanner, trackpad, revolution mx mouse and web cam, as do all of the programs that I have tried to use.
What is the benefit of running my mac in 64 bit kernel?
Can I set something so that it will automatically boot up in 64 bit every time?

Jun 5, 2009With Snow Leopard on the horizon, and there already being some 64bit operating systems out there which are a hassle to get working with the "woodcrest" MacPro machines, eg, W7 x64 is a no go, and I have read that it is a PITA to get Vista x64 going(and a waste of time anyway). It has gotten me thinking, will Snow Leopard work in true 64bit form in the machine that was advertised as a 64bit Pro workstation?I am eager too see how much of a difference Grand Central and Open CL make!

Oct 23, 2009I have a fairly old imac (it's about three years old) and although I've upgraded the ram, it's feeling a bit sluggish now. Do you think I would experience any performance benefit from upgrading to snow leopard? It still seems like a great machine so can't really justify upgrading to the new imacs.

Oct 18, 2009Out of curiosity, any reason not to purchase the Apple Care? I know that many people purchase this as an add-on because they want security with their device. I have always been a PC person and have built my super computer and of course, know enough to correct, repair my computer. I'm not saying that I won't know how to repair my MacBook but it seems like Apple Care does a lot more which justifies the cost and purchase. The question is, what is that "extra" benefit or is the hype still just from people who don't know anything about computing and or other reasons. Help me if I'm missing anything here.

Apr 8, 2009I just got myself a Mac Mini and a 2 TB Western Digital My Book Studio II External Hard Drive. I just wanted to run this idea by you guys to give me some expert advice. What I did was I made the 2 TB Western Digital into a 1 TB External Hard Drive with RAID 1. Then I went to System Preferences/Accounts and changed the location of the Users folder to the External Hard Drive.
So, essentially, (I think....) the entire OS is running on the Mac Mini, and then whatever data, Movies, Music, Preferences, additional Accounts etc..... I run from my External via Firewire 800. What do you all think about this set up? I have no idea why and how I came up with that, but that was how my Windows computer was set up (Recent Mac convert!)

My question is should iWork come pre-installed or on the Mac Applications DVD? I have just loaded in the Mac Applications DVD and it seems to have "Macintosh HD" on it, which i've now installed. But no iWork.

Jan 6, 2011With all the app store teasers, recent release of iLife 11 one might have thought iWork '11 was coming soon. Alas, it does not seem to be so. At least all I see is installed next to the apps. I actually like the new MS Office, so I am not nearly as desperate as I once was for the new Apple products. But we all know Apple often has a unique spin on the common, and I still prefer Keynote to all others and would love to see that pushed to even more development possibilities. Considering the way the web works, the way Hypercard worked, and Keynote, I could imagine making keynotes that are HTML5 ready and have scripting abilities and interactive abilities like Hypercard. That would be an app that rocked, and brought some life back to the MIA web development scene for the Mac.
