I've got the late 2008 Aluminum MacBook.. For some reason the camera stopped working and is not even registering on Photobooth.. I never dropped it badly and there is no real reason for this to stop working.. does anybody know of an easy fix?

Then idk how many times she launched photo booth then the light turned green! It worked for like a second.. when she moved the monitor, there it is again "the camera-not working icon".

I have OSX 10.5.8. In the past, I was able to use PhotoBooth, but now when I open it, all options to take a photo are grayed out. The screen, where, I believe, previously I'd seen whatever was in the built-in camera's lens (generally whatever I put in front of the screen to photograph), I now see all black with a white camera icon crossed out. Skype works fine though. When I try to load iChat, it crashes unexpectedly. For clarification, I'm using the built-in cam and do not have external camera hooked up to it. I don't really care about iChat, which I never use, and am very, very glad that Skype, which I do use, is working. However, I would very much like to get PhotoBooth working.

I recently purchased a used Macbook 13" for my daughter. It is less than one year old. She wanted all of her user data from our family computer to be transferred to the new machine. I transferred her user file from our 2005 iMac G5 that does NOT have a camera (don't know if this is relevant) through firewire and the migration assistant process. Both machines were running the latest Leopard and were both up to date.
The transfer went perfectly and was even successful in getting rid of the prior owner's name that would show up all over the place. The one thing that my daughter found is that the Photo Booth app would take pictures but not save them in the tray. It just would not work. I read some threads and dropped the preferences file for the app and rebooted the machine to no avail. I did find that Photo Booth would work in the Root or Guest accounts, just not in the account that was transferred from the old machine. Last night she was taking photos and videos using the guest account. They all saved in the tray, but when she went to log out a warning came up saying that logging out would cause all data to be lost. The pictures were all gone.
I received a response already from a tech on this site. His advice was to run a series of commands in my "terminal" none of which worked. I am new to this site and did not know how to get back to him. I decide to try again. It is really weird, as this is the only thing that is not working properly.
I've been messing around with the new Photobooth and the new backdrops. But after it says "please move out of the picture" all the pictures are distorted and not working right.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed a couple of days ago that my camera wasnt working. i would go on ichat and try and videochat with someone and it wouldnt work. i tried photobooth and it didn't work either. the little green light would light up next to the camera, but no picture would show up on the screen. when i went on websites that had videochat, the camera would work just fine.

Had the same issue with previous system 10.9. Question was answered and it solved the problem, only until I reboot the computer. Then problem appeared again.
Installed 10.10.1 Yosemite and again my camera is no longer operating. I tried the previous method and used Disk Utilities to repair the permissions but it still does not work.

Usually when i click "broadcast" there are many video options and I choose the one that has myself on it. It usually says something like "USB camcorder" or something with USB in it. However; the other night I tried to go on, and it wouldn't let me. I noticed that the video options had gone down to about 4, and the one with myself was called "Built-In iSight." I have never had this option before, so I clicked it. the green light next to my camera flicked on and then off. You couldn't see me. Was it something I did? Using a Feb 2011 Macbook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.4 It seems that every time i use my built-in iSight camera, then the next time i go to use it, it can not be found. This requires that I reset the PMU, which is kind of annoying. Then it works for a few weeks and the cycle of iSight begins again. Why does this happen? It seems pretty trivial to consistently recognize a camera which is wired into my computer. Is there something I could do to prevent this from happening again? I have tried turning it on and off again. And currently, this article is linking to the reset instructions for Intel iMac instead of the Macbook Pro page...

I recently bought a base MBP-RD and can say that I am overall impressed with it, though I have found a couple issues already. One of them is related to the iSight camera which for some reason doesn't work. The camera appears in system profiler, but it shows as "camera not detected" when trying to launch application like iChat, Skype, FaceTime, etc. I already tried re-installing OSX Lion, and still not working.
I have also found some weird issue with graphics where it freezes a series of frames when going to Mission Control or App Expose.
I am returning this computer as there are other things I didn't like, but overall pretty impressive (no LED battery indicator, no Lock slot, no sleep light indicator...)
