Mac Pro :: Manually Slide The Drive Into The Connector Port?

Jul 2, 2010

I just purchased an ICY DOCK for use with an Intel SSD. I already a have one of these, however the new one seems to have some new revisions. Basically this new one allows me to completely take off the cover. The old one slides forward and up, but the cover does not disconnect. The old one also, when closing, makes sure the SSD is seated correctly into the connector port on the ICY DOCK. The new one does not seem to have this "automatic" feature where when I close it.

MacBook :: Receiving AM Radio Via Display Port Connector?

Mar 12, 2009

A few weeks ago, I discovered that when my Mini Displayport to VGA connector was plugged in, I heard a buzz through my speakers. It didnt bother me that much, so I just dealt with it. However, today I was plugging my external speakers in, and when the connector was about half way in.. I started to hear audio that I knew wasnt on my computer. Turns out it was commentary on a college basketball game. I started to listen some more, and discovered that it was 1530am. Seeing as I use just a standard set of 5.1 computer speakers... I found this to be extremely odd, so I figured id share this with everyone.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Manually Change Network Port?

Apr 16, 2012

I'm currently using crashplan as an online backup service. Crashplan uses port 443 to send its backup data to its servers. I need to figure out a way to differentiate crashplan traffic so that I can create a QoS rule in my router to assign it a low priority, and I'm not quite sure how to do this.

I can't use a mac address, since that would deprioritize the whole computer. I can't use port 443, because that would flag a huge amount of other traffic as well that I don't necessarily want de-prioritized. Currently, crashplan does not offer a way to change the port it uses.

Mac Pro :: What Connector Is This On My Mac Pro DVD Drive?

Feb 22, 2009

I have a spare DVD drive and decided to install it in my Mac Pro.

When I opened up my case I found there was a standard Molex power cable, but the existing DVD drive in there had the above adaptor, with one spare to attach another drive with.

My spare drive has space for SATA cables, that's about it.

Any ideas what adaptor this is?

MacBook :: Hard Drive Not Fitting Into Connector

Mar 13, 2012

I've ever tried to upgrade a hard drive on a 13", 2007, white Intel MacBook.I was following the directions I had found on the internet.I've taken the old drive out, swapped the hard drive plate from the original drive to the new hard drive and tried to push it back into the same slot, but for some reason I can't get it to go all the way back into that slot the drive fits in.Strange enough, it also feels like it's pushing against something rubbery on the inside. It's less than a 1/4 inch from going all the way back in.I've made certain that all the screws are tightened all the way on the drive, but can't figure out why I'm getting resistence when I try to push it in that weeee little bit.I am certain that I have the drive flipped the proper way too, because I took note of how the original drive was oriented and made sure I duplicated that on this new drive.Like I had said before, it feels like there is something rubbery that's in the way, I just can't get to it.So I'm also curious if anyone knows if I were to take off the top cover on the laptop whether that would expose the hard drive so that I could see why it's not fitting into the connector properly.

OS X :: Manually Mounting FW 800 Drive In Mac 10.2.6

Apr 7, 2009

I currently work with an old G4 Power Mac (1.25 GHz, 2GB RAM) and have to mount a FW 800 volume (WD MyBook Studio Edition 1TB) to that computer so I can consolidate to it (Avid speak for copying some data). But it doesn't mount, and Disk Utility only shows it greyed out, and there is no option to mount it like in 10.3 and following. The strange thing is, there are already two WD MyBooks Studio Edition drives connected and fully mounted. But even if I disconnect all extra drives, the one WD MyBook is still greyed out, even after reboot, which helped sometimes. I also use this drive with a 10.4.11 PowerMac G5 and a 10.5.6 C2D MBP (Unibody). Can newer Mac OS versions leave some kind of mark, so that this older Mac OS won't allow it into its system?

Hardware :: DVD Drive Tray Stuck Closed - How To Manually Open

Nov 27, 2009

I replaced a defective DVD drive with a new Pioneer super drive in a Mac Pro G5 which meant I had to manually pull out the tray and remove the bezel on the front of the tray so the tray will pass through the mirror door cavity.

After I pushed the tray back into the drive to install the drive in the G5 I somehow managed to jam something because the tray will not open at all now. The motor attempts to open the tray and pressing the little manual tray release (paper clip through the pin hole) doesn't work either.

OS X :: Clone Drive Of Mini Using CD SATA Port?

May 9, 2009

I'm thinking of upgrading my HDD on my new Mac Mini(2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo) and I'm wondering if this is possible. I would like to clone the old to the new without having to buy a USB or Firewire to SATA adapter. Would it be possible to disconnect the Super Drive(CD/DVD) and connect up the new drive, use Super Duper to clone, then replace the old with the new and reconnect the Super Drive?

I've searched the forums to see if anyone has tried this but I didn't find anything. I'm not even sure if there is a second SATA port that would work for a HDD. I know the Super Drive is a SATA because it's listed when I look at system info.

I've seen a lot of folks using USB or Firewire to do this so that's my backup plan but it would seem if I can get both drives connected this would be pretty straight forward.

Windows On Mac :: Possible To Backup Drive Connected To USB Port?

Aug 14, 2009

I have a windows hard drive from an old labtop (windows xp) that is failing, and I need to make a backup of it, so I'll remove that hard drive and connect it to a usb port on my macbook pro. Now I need a program that can do that, it can either be windows or mac app sins I also have windows installed on this mac. Here is the problem I bought Norton ghost for this, problem is the Norton ghost has become a terrible app, that rarely works correct these days. I for the life of me could not get the new hard drive to boot after making a complete clone.

The new hard drive works fine with a clean install, and the old hard drive boots fine. Now is there any program you can recommend that you have used to backup a external hard drive onto a file on another computer to then restore that file to another external harddrive and have it boot in the old system.

Mac Pro :: Squealing And Hard Drive Noise Via Line Out Port

Jun 11, 2008

I just bought a Mac Pro. I immediately installed 2 GB of RAM and four large hard drives without even booting the computer while it was stock. Anyway, the machine is connected to JBL Creature speakers via the (analog) line-out port. However, unless I also have the headphone port connected to the speakers with a splitter, I get a really high pitched squeeling regardless of volume level. And yes, my sound preferences are set to the analog line-out setting.

Also, when I have both ports connected to the speakers and the squeeling is gone, I get hard drive read and write noise through the speakers. It's most apparent in Final Cut Pro and Motion. I'm hoping that, if it needs to be repaired, Apple will go through my local Apple-certified shop (not an actual Apple Store) instead of having to send it in.

Mac Pro :: Blu-Ray Drive Using Extra Sata Port On MP Not Recognized In Windows?

Jan 12, 2009

So I bought that LG HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive for my Mac Pro. I used the extra SATA ports near the fan to install it, and it works great while using OSX, but it won't work in Windows.

I read somewhere about enabling AHCI or something like that in Windows so it can recognize the spare SATA port, and therefore recognize the Blu-Ray drive, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me.

It's awful confusing...

I want to be able to rip my Blu-Ray movies onto my computer to pop them onto the tv, but the only hurdle is having Windows recognize the drive. Any help at all would be very appreciated.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Use Front USB Port For External Hard Drive

Jun 1, 2012

I have had some problems for about the past year with the front USB port on my 2009 13in Macbook Pro 5.5.

As you know, there are 2 USB ports on the left side on a 13inch Macbook pro.  The one closest to me (the front one) works fine when I use it with a flash drive.  But when I connect my external 7200RPM external drive to it, after about a minute, it ejects then re-recognizes the disk.

I video edit with FCP and use the external as one of my scratch disks.

At first I thought maybe it was the cord or the drive that was messed up.  But then I connected my other external drive to this port and the same thing happened. But when I connected it to the back USB port, everything works fine. I haven't had any trouble.  So i make sure it's connected to that port when using the external.
