I've recently replaced my video card because the previous one had problems displaying garbled videos on screen.
However, when I took it back from the repair, and start booting up my computer, i hear the chime and it shows me flashing globe symbol as it's booting up. (when it's supposed to show me the apple symbol).
I was working with a Power Mac G5 when this strange thing happened. I had pulled the CD drive from the machine to test out a problem with a new Mac Book computer(door wouldn't open on eject command). Discovered that that we had a wiring problem (I was using the bottom connector not the top). So I go and put the drive back into the Power Mac, turn it on & the only thing on my screen is a small square icon with a picture of the North & South American hemispheres on it, flashing. Can anyone enlighten me as to what just happen & what I can do to fix it?

Over the last few weeks when I have been starting my computer up I get the white blank screen for a few mins then it goes to a flashing globe for a few more mins then the apple sign then it finally starts. I have been thinking about taking my computer in to get it fixed cause I cant seem to figure out whats wrong with it. I have looked it up on google and everyone seems to be saying to go to startup disk and then pick the right network volume to start up from, but when I go there there is only one choice its called "Network Startup" and there is a globe with a ? on it for the symbol. Also I read a couple places that its the hard drive warning me that its crashing? is this true? I also have had a couple freezes the last couple days.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe one I'm currently using had a problem and needed to have the hard drive replaced, which was done by a local Apple store. They were also very kind to reload Lion once the drive was replaced. I reconnected the machine to our domain here at work yesterday and have been experencing very long bootup's. During the boot process I'm receiving a flashing grey Globe of the Earth, prior to seeing the Apple logo. Once I see the Apple logo things seem to proceed normally and the machine completes the boot process. Does anyone know what this grey Globe of the Earth means? and what I may need to do to satisfy whatever is causing it.

I'm selling my old iMac and while cleaning the hard drive it froze. I forced shut down and when I turned it back on a circle with a diagonal came up initially, followed by flashes of that, a question mark and the apple symbol. Now it won't get past the grey screen and the flashing symbols.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my 2007 iMac, and so far everything is running flawlessly EXCEPT that every time I boot in to Windows I am greeted with a flashing underscore for about 55 seconds before the boot process continues. Has anyone any idea what the cause and solution to this little irritating problem might be? I used the drivers included on the SL DVD in case anyone is wondering. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've now properly installed Windows 7 to my MacBook, but now I'm getting this problem and can't find a fix.
Basically, I turn my MacBook on, select Windows, and it leaves me at a black screen with a flashing underscore for 45 seconds before it actually begins to do anything (making boot times unbarably slow). This is seriously annoying me, but it doesn't seem to have a fix. Edit: Oh, some details. Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), MacBook Pro 13" (2009), Snow Leopard installed, using rEFIt to multi-boot, bootcamp 3.0, and have never had this problem with any other version of Windows.
My MacBook was fine until it fell last night. It wasn't a big fall. It had actually been very close to the floor, but now when I try to start it a flashing folder with a question mark shows up. There is no clicking noise. It makes the sound like it is going to start. I started it up while holding the option key and Macintosh HD shows up with an arrow underneath it. However, when I click on the arrow, it freezes, eventually disappears and then the computer shuts down.
I am currently in Spain and my installation discs that came with my computer are back in the US. Is my best bet to have someone send me them or is that not even going to help? I also read a post that someone took out their hard drive, reseated it and then when they turned their computer back on everything was fine. Could this be a possibility? Would I need my installation discs after doing that?
Shutdown my MacBook pro last night turned it on this morning and I am not getting apple chime only a blank screen and a flashing sleep light?

My iMac will not boot normally only in safe mode and then all programes keep flashing.Safari and mail continuously flashing grey lines..Reset the PRAM and it worked but turned the computer off and on again and its gone back to same problem...It's an iMac 27" late 2013 3.2 ghz

i just upgraded my ibook g3 hd to 20gb. i put in my tiger install disc 1 and i let it go while i was out of the room. i heard the startup chime from another room, later i went to see it with a blue screen and mouse cursor. it wouldn't do anything. then i restarted it with the install disc again, holding C down, and it booted to a grey screen which after about a minute went to the flashing folder with the ? mark.

I ended up shutting the computer off and then turned it back on and it loaded up as normal. I need someone to give me a guide to writing the Laplace symbol in Latex. I am using Scientific Word. I know that one needs to use the mathrsfs.sty file and some font definition files, but I don't know how to put all these together and into the right folders for my Scientific Word installation.
At the moment, I have placed the mathrsfs.sty and .me files inside TCITeX/TeX/LaTeX/Contrib/Supported/
..and I have put the font files inside a folder in the /fonts/ directory.
I included the mathrsfs in my preamble as
usepackage{mathrsfs}
and I also added it as a package NATIVELY.
In my document, I use
mathscr{L}
But, I just get an ordinary L.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOccasionally I will turn on my IMac and I wont have any sound. When I try to turn up or down the sound, there is a restriction symbol in the sound box that pops up and nothing will happen. The old restart usually works. However, when I try to plug in headphones or an external audio cable, nothing changes. I still get sound out of the computer, and it works like there is nothing in the jack. All software is up to date, I reset PRAM and did the "unplug everything" drill. Still no change. When I did the unplug everything, its almost notorious for having the first problem of "no sound".

I have an untitled cd in my finder under devices. My cd/dvd player will not work since it has been there. I cannot drag it to trash or anywhere else. I've found a few post online but none seem to help. Why is it there and how do I get rid of it? Once I do get rid of it, will it allow my cd/dvd to work again?
