I have a Mac Pro 3.1..Sometimes (most of the times, actually) the Mac Pro doesn't boot and just stops after the chime (just as it was powered off). But what I found strange is that the white status light is always on (not blinking, always on) from the moment I connect the power strip.
I've run multiple times the Apple Service Diagnostic tests (running then again at this moment) and there´s absolutely no error reported. I've changed memory, video card slot position, everything I could think off, but still haven't found a solution.
My wife's MacBook Pro has failed to start. Strangely the button to open the lid on front flashes. The computer recently had a new mother board put in. Feburary. Bit of a waste of money on and old mac. But there you go.Now we can't get it to turn on.Disk drive macs a sound but screen doesn't even turn grey. Can't seem to reset PRAM. Get no chimes at all.
I bought a new mpb , i7. a few weeks ago it turned off and it wouldnt turn back on when i connected it to the power source , the sleep light however kept flashing, and it madethis sound like if it was trying to boot. anyway,i left it charging for a bit and it started working on its own.
however, lately its been shutting down when it runs out of battery instead of hibernating (which is really frustrating). and just now its doing the flashing thing again, cept for a much longer time.. any idea how to resolve this/what might be wrong with it?
When shutting down, we get a familiar light blue screen before the computer turns off. I'm getting this flashing at me while operating my MBP. It seems to happen twice, every so often. The screen will turn blue and become empty simultaneously for about a half second - then the screen I'm expecting to see comes back for about half a second - and then the light blue screen comes back again for about a half a second, and then everything goes back to normal. What the heck is this?
I must say, I'm having a little bit of a difficult time with my switch to Apple from Microsoft last November. I've already had to replace the logic board, it appears as if my network card is no longer working (I can only connect via WiFi) - and now I'm having this odd light-blue screen flashing... My video card?
I have not used my MacBook for a couple of days n today realised it needed charging when I come to use it so I plugged it in. I get a green flashing light but it won't charge? I have only had it since April so can't see it being the mac is it the charger itself?
I have an old macbookpro which doesn't have a good battery. last night it shut off because I didn't have the power chord attached. now I can't power it up. the light on the power chord flashes (slowly) between red and green.
My MacBook was fine until it fell last night. It wasn't a big fall. It had actually been very close to the floor, but now when I try to start it a flashing folder with a question mark shows up. There is no clicking noise. It makes the sound like it is going to start. I started it up while holding the option key and Macintosh HD shows up with an arrow underneath it. However, when I click on the arrow, it freezes, eventually disappears and then the computer shuts down.
I am currently in Spain and my installation discs that came with my computer are back in the US. Is my best bet to have someone send me them or is that not even going to help? I also read a post that someone took out their hard drive, reseated it and then when they turned their computer back on everything was fine. Could this be a possibility? Would I need my installation discs after doing that?
New mac user. Got a macbook pro model a1278. When it is plugged in the charger flashes orange faintly. Tried resetting the smc but nothing. Any ideas? Hard drive might be bad but other than that im not sure.a bad hard drive would cause this.
I've recently replaced my video card because the previous one had problems displaying garbled videos on screen.
However, when I took it back from the repair, and start booting up my computer, i hear the chime and it shows me flashing globe symbol as it's booting up. (when it's supposed to show me the apple symbol).
I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my 2007 iMac, and so far everything is running flawlessly EXCEPT that every time I boot in to Windows I am greeted with a flashing underscore for about 55 seconds before the boot process continues. Has anyone any idea what the cause and solution to this little irritating problem might be? I used the drivers included on the SL DVD in case anyone is wondering. Here is a short video clip showing the whole boot process: [URL]
My PPC G5 Mac Power Pro has been working fine, on one startup recently the screen didn't come on, the keyboard and mouse did not pass the startup test and the white light flashes three times. After a while the fans go into hovercraft mode! I've reseated the RAm and checked all other cards.
This morning my girlfriend booted up the MP and it froze when she tried to log on. A short time after freezing she was able to bring up the Dashboard but then the computer display went wild flashing like a strobe light. Ever heard of this?
Iit doesn't seem to affect performance but it's still puzzling me. Since I bought my Time Capsule several months ago the light on the front often switches from green to flashing orange after a few days of operation. Doing a hard reboot of the Time Capsule fixes the problem but then again after a few days it will be flashing orange again. A flashing orange light is supposed to indicate some kind of problem but I'm not noticing any change in network performance or functionality at all.
I've now properly installed Windows 7 to my MacBook, but now I'm getting this problem and can't find a fix. Basically, I turn my MacBook on, select Windows, and it leaves me at a black screen with a flashing underscore for 45 seconds before it actually begins to do anything (making boot times unbarably slow). This is seriously annoying me, but it doesn't seem to have a fix. Edit: Oh, some details. Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), MacBook Pro 13" (2009), Snow Leopard installed, using rEFIt to multi-boot, bootcamp 3.0, and have never had this problem with any other version of Windows.
I just received a 2 TB TC (part no. MC344LL/A) which I am trying to connect to an existing network. I have an iMac (24", 2.93 GHz, 4 GB ram) and a Belking54g router. I tried connecting the TC directly to the modem (Time Warner Cable) and the airport utility recognized the TC, but when it updates it, the connection gets lost and it can no longer find the TC. TC goes into flashing orange mode and nothing happens until I hard reset the router (by pressing the button in the rear using a pen).
I installed several system updates on my 2007 iMac last night, running OS 10.7, and today I can only get a black screen with a flashing white power light when I try to start up. My computer will neither start up nor completely shut down, and my wired keyboard won't communicate either.
My iMac will not boot normally only in safe mode and then all programes keep flashing.Safari and mail continuously flashing grey lines..Reset the PRAM and it worked but turned the computer off and on again and its gone back to same problem...It's an iMac 27" late 2013 3.2 ghz
Info: iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I have an iMac G5 iSight. When the power button is pressed there is no sound and a white light flashes, but nothing else happens. I tried the power reset method and replaced the power supply, but the same thing happens. The white light just keeps flashing.
My brother has a second gen, 800Mhz eMac (the one that could be overclocked to 1.33Ghz - the earlier PC133 ram model). Since about 1.5 mths ago, when he powers it on, sometimes it will not power on, and other times it will give three beeps (diagnostic pages say bad RAM) and a flashing power/sleep light in unison with the beeps. Did this vintage suffer bad caps? I recall that it was only the 1.25Ghz model that had bad caps, but I could be wrong.
I have a Mac G5 Dual 2.0ghz Running 3GB Ram 6 x 512 ddr pc 3200 400mhz i use it for music production, So as you can imagine i need plenty of ram to run some of the high end plugins, So i purchased 2 x 1GB Pc3200 400mhz Ram, Pushing up my total ram to 5GB, Plenty for what i need.
So i installed the ram in the 2 outside slots(the only 2 left) the mac booted up but wouldnt recognise the new ram,( thought i would save a few pound and went for the extra value ram) So i thought i would move the other ram up a slot and put the new ram in the first slot instead of the last one, it still wouldnt recognise the new ram,So i turn it off took out the ram, put the old ram back in its original slots, Turn the mac back on,......Nothing but a white light flashing on the monitor, & the fans going mad !
After trying each set of ram in pairs one at a time i managed to get one set to work in the first slot, 1 gb (2x512) once! Now i cant get anything to boot this mac up! the ram worked before, so why not now. Ive only been using a mac for about 2 years, and before that i built pcs for a living, & i know my way round pcs fine , but this has really got me.Please Please Please. if someone can help i would be very grateful, i need to get some important work finished. Best Regards.
I have a 2011 early mbp. Ive never had any issues with and and I upgraded to Lion when it came out. About 4 days ago it just would not boot into Lion at all. Would get stuck at the Apple Picture and the circle thing and thats it. I tried to boot the recovery partition and it would still get stuck at the same spot. I took out my hard drive and connected it Via USB on my iMac and it boots up just fine. I than used the recovery from the iMac and reinstalled Lion on the mbp hard drive. I put the hard drive back and it still wont boot up.
So I have an Airport Extreme hosting my wireless network in my home office (second floor). A couple months ago I bought a Time Capsule (1TB) and have it extending my network from our family room (main floor).
I was just watching TV and saw the status light change from green to flashing yellow/orange. Thinking our internet just went down, I cracked open my MBP and fired up FireFox.... Internet is working just fine. Switched over to the Airport Utility and scanned for Devices. The only device found is my Airport Extreme.
I scanned my local area wireless networks, and all that can be found is the usual suspects... no new apple devices.Did a search on this forum and the apple support forum without finding anything super helpful.I know I could plug in via Ethernet and see if I could find it then...(its installed right under our TV and people are watching it right now)...
My next course of action is to reset the TC... When i set it back up, if I don't give it the exact same name... will i still be able to resume my back-ups from where they were before? (I know I shoulda backed up the config file... but I didn't)?
Advice?
(I highly doubt that it is a software update ... I keep ontop of those, and one hasn't been released for a while... My Extreme is at 7.3.2)
Update: So after an hour researching all of this I came back downstairs and the TC status light is green... But its still not showing up in the AirPort Utility and I can't back up.
Update 2: So I power cycled it and its fixed... hope this never happens again.
