When running certain apps when logged in to my MAC (OS 10.5.6), I get the Java cup symbol (the one with arrows around it), but no app. When logged into the same mac as other users (my family), they run fine. Any ideas how to resolve?

I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2 and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for example
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

I can't access my homebanking website (it uses Safari). When I try to, the website says I don't have Java Installed (it was working till last week). If I access Java test page, it says Java is working good. If I access my homebanking with Firefox, it runs OK.

I have an application that requires Java. I had upgraded to the Yosemite OS. I installed Java 6 as required for the app. However, it seems some functions in my app still don't work. So, my question is does Java 6 work with Yosemite? I had no problems with Maverick OS.

When launching a java app from within eclipse (run/debug) that doesn't have a gui the firewall dialog (allow/deny) pops up and then just disappear leaving the app blocked for incoming connections. This was introduced in snow leopard and worked fine in leopard. Has anyone found a solution for this other than the radical of turning off the firewall all together?

my keyboard doesn't work in any online flash and java games.
The trackpad works fine, and all the volume, brightness, dashboard, etc buttons do work.
I seem to have some problems with Java. For instance, when trying to upload photos in Facebook, the java "thing" won't work. It's no longer asking me if I trust the certificate. This has happened on other websites as well.
I have tried to go in to Java webstart in Utilites and when it opens I am getting these messages:

"java.lang.NullPointerException"
I'm not quite sure what all this means and to be honest I'm not really sure "what" java actually is (is embarrassed).

Recently I have installed Sun Microsystems Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for my Mac (Leopard). Though it shows successful installation, my java applet simply will not work under Firefox and Safari. I have checked out the browsers' preference setup and the java boxes are checked. I just cannot figure out why the java applet will not work; I've heard Leopard has this downfall. I was running java 1.6.0_33 on my Mac Lion and later I installed java 1.7.0_05. Now in my Java preferences I see both the Java SE available.Now my problem is when I enable Java 7(& select Enable applet plug-in and Web start applications), my JNLP file doesn't run with java web start, from Safari as well as Firefox. When I try running the jnlp using Open With option and selecting Java Web Start present in /System/Library/CoreServices, nothing happens.
When I try running the JNLP file from Terminal suing command /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Web Start xyz.jnlp I get following error
Java Web Start splash screen process exiting... Can not find message file : No such file or directory.

Since the flurry of 2012 updates, Java is completely broken on my Mac Pro. Java dependent apps don't start and Apple Support says to enable the apps in Java Preferences. Nice idea, but Java Preferences WILL NOT LAUNCH either. There were plenty of tools to address flashback and they DID NOT break normal day to day operations.I downloaded the package from support to try a re-installation, but it says "A newer version of Java is already installed" and offers me the option to Close. No reinstall, nothing. Apple support is at it's usual level of service on this issue, completely INVISIBLE.

I am brand new to Mac (I got a G4 laptop in trade to replace a dead windows desktop).I am trying to install Limewire and it tells me that I cannot: "could not launch application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed". I am having problem with post processing a simulation. Every time I hit the "plot parameter" button within the software I get the same error. Opening the file on a windows machine works perfectly fine, therefore I have tried updating the Java through "Software update" and still no luck.

How do you guys put a superscript symbol when doing a word processing.
I use iWork, and this function is under "format-font-baseline-superscript", I try to use the shortcut "control+command+plus", while it doesn't work.
The shortcut works properly for a subscript symbol.
