Mac :: MBP 13" Vs 15" For Bootcamp - Virtual Desktop Options?
Jun 14, 2010
I plan to use OSX for surfing, movies, uni work, playing about with music, etc general use really.I'm a student studying chemical engineering and the programmes that are used in my uni only work with windows, so I was definitely gonna either install VMware Fusion or bootcamp Windows 7.I was wondering if the base 13" would be enough to suit my needs, or would I need to get the base 15"?Another question I have is, what are the temperatures like when running a virtual desktop or bootcamp? would the 13" be cooler than the 15" or vice versa?

I was under the impression that a Windows license is per machine (i.e. a single license can be used to install it in bootcamp AND in a virtual machine) -- is this correct?
Is it the same for Office 2010 Pro?

I have a few relatively light-weight Windows-only programs that I need to start using on my Macbook Pro. I'm deciding whether to install them on Bootcamp or use VM Ware Fusion.A couple questions please1) To use Windows with Bootcamp, do I need to install Windows XP on Bootcamp?2) What is your opinion? Go with Bootcamp, or install a virtual machine? I am aware that Bootcamp requires a restart to return to my Mac - and that programs will work faster on Bootcamp over a virtual machine.3) But what if I installed BOTH (Bootcamp and a virtual machine using VM Ware Fusion) just until I figure out what I prefer? Does that mean that two separate instances of Windows XP installation will occur on my hard drive?

At work we use a proprietary Windows only application that is not too much unlike Microsoft Outlook (as an example). It's the only windows software I will need to run on my Mac.
My question is what is the best way to run it, so my Mac stays cool, and reliable? I'm not interested in running any of the "free trials" they offer as time is at a premium, as I'm sure it is for you.

I want to run Windows 7 somehow on my new 2009 Macbook (2.4ghz, 2gb ram, 250 gb HDD). Now, is it better to have a separate partition through bootcamp or run it through a virtual machine (Vmware Fusion or something). I need to run windows for very light video streaming programs and maybe some very very light management games.

I'm taking an opportunity that just came up to upgrade to a 15" i7 Macbook Pro and wanted to run something by the community here. I currently run Windows 7 under Parallels 5 only and would love to convert to a bootcamp so I can run Windows 7 under both Bootcamp and Parallels. I know from my research some say this is impossible.
But I just thought of something and thought maybe someone else tried this. Windows 7 has a backup/restore feature that can make a system disk image. So I was thinking of trying that. Uninstalling the Parallels tools then creating a disk image. Then making my Bootcamp partition and copying my disk image created earlier onto that partition.

I have Virtual PC for Mac (version 7.0.2) and I'm running the home edition of Windows XP on it. I also have the Mac G5 (OS 10.4.11, Tiger edition).
I have a universal remote control that can be edited in the Windows platform only, but when I connect the remote to the Mac it does not appear within the Windows desktop or remote control software on the Windows side.
Is there a software patch that allows third party plug-ins to appear on the Windows XP desktop within Virtual PC for Mac?

now that I have leopard installed and ready on my computer, I'm just itching to link up Smackbook with Spaces. has anyone been able to get this to work? I mean, installing virtual desktop at this point seems redundant and in leopard, the options for customizing the sudden motion sensor seem almost endless.

I have needed to use some windows programs and felt that Bootcamp would be the way to go with this. I have Bootcamp Beta, the latest version, penultimate before Leopard. I have partitioned and installed windows and formatted correctly. However, when the time comes to enter the Product Key, the Product Key is 'invalid'.I have since installed XP Pro on a old machine, not Mac, as a primary operating system with the same CD, and the same Product Key with no problems whatsoever.

The "return" key goes from being extremely sticky and sluggish to very sharp and responsive by the minute, I'm guessing something is stuck underneath. Is there any way to safely remove the key and clean it?2nd: Bootcamp isn't working very well. After installing Windows XP without problems, the Leopard disk isn't working right. It's reading, and installs all the programs, but afterwards none of the apple keys work (like brightness and volume controls), there's no volume, and the GPU isn't recognized (at least I think this is the problem, if I drag a window across the screen it moves frame by frame

I have a PowerMac G4, dual 1.25, 2 gigs of RAM and I'm thinking about upgrading. I don't have a big budget so the new Mac Pro is out of the question. I've been trying to figure out what's going to be more beneficial for me: 1) I upgrade the processor on my G4 to the maximum of dual 1.8 or 2) get an iMac, maybe the lowest version of 2.4Ghz Intel core duo.I'm an audio engineer and my projects require a lot of audio recording, mixing, and mastering. Once in a blue moon I have to work audio synced up to video. That was the reason I HAD to get a PowerMac 4 years ago and not the old version of the iMac. All my software work perfectly with OS 10.3.9 so it's not a requirement for me to get a better operating system. In fact, one application is still not available for OS 10.5.

I can not get my external monitor to hook up with my new MacBook Pro. I know how to get the windows desktop over onto the external monitor, but windows just recognizes the monitor for a moment, and then nothing. This cycles until I turn off the external monitor. I have the new MacBook Pro, with MiniDisplay port, and the monitor is hooked up with a DVI, and it is a 22" Acer.

So just recently, whenever I restart my mbp and hold down the option key for the bootcamp option, it is taking atleast a minute to get the option of either mac os or windows to be displayed. Earlier, this was very feasible as the options would be displayed rather instantaneously. Could someone please help me out as the wait time is horrendous to the least.

I tried to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp on my MacBook, and it was working fine untill it restarted my computer. It booted into my OS X partition and I had a HD labeled "Untitled" on my desktop (it was the partitioned part of my hard drive.) After a while, I got it to boot into Windows, and I have it installed on my Mac with no problems, exept for one: I still have the HD labeled "Untitled" on my desktop (it now contains all of the Windows files.) I just wanted to know if this is normal, or if there's something wrong with mine.

I am an architect and I will be mostly using my new imac to work on Autocad 2010 along with a couple of other windows based applications. I understand the concept of the three methods of using windows but I do not know which would provide the best performance whilst working on Autocad, without it becoming a laborious task to load it up everyday.
I will be rocking dual monitors so I quite like the idea of Parallels or VMWare so that I can have Windows open on one monitor and Leopard on the other. But will this have a negative effect on the performance of Autocad? Also, which of these two is the better?

I try to mount the image, but it fails and wants me to try repairing, which as you see in the picture doesn't work. Any ideas?

I have seen a few videos about mastering and gave it a try myself. It can be done by clicking the master tab, then going to the Input 1-2 column setting and then clicking setting - mastering, etc. When I first did this a few weeks ago, there were many options such as hip hop mastering, electronic mastering, etc. Now, when I do so, I have different - much less enticing options and have no idea where the good ones went.

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

had a bootcamp partition which I eventually ended up removing again with the bootcamp assistant. Now I want to create the bootcamp partition again, and when I start up the assistant, there is a 5gb leftover partition of the old bootcamp it seems. I just can't resize it... I've tried anything as low as resizing it to 10gb to 100gb... both fails.I have more than 200gb free space.I have just run a full defrag with iDefrag I've tried to do fileoptimization with techtool pro v5
I tried using camptune (which only works if you already have a working bootcamp partition, which I dont.
