I want to run Windows 7 somehow on my new 2009 Macbook (2.4ghz, 2gb ram, 250 gb HDD). Now, is it better to have a separate partition through bootcamp or run it through a virtual machine (Vmware Fusion or something). I need to run windows for very light video streaming programs and maybe some very very light management games.
I have some games do not work well on XP via VMware virtual machine. Someone recommended me to install BootCamp on my mac to have games worked perfect.
and I'm wondering if BootCamp can be installed as a virtual machine or not.
I'm taking an opportunity that just came up to upgrade to a 15" i7 Macbook Pro and wanted to run something by the community here. I currently run Windows 7 under Parallels 5 only and would love to convert to a bootcamp so I can run Windows 7 under both Bootcamp and Parallels. I know from my research some say this is impossible.
But I just thought of something and thought maybe someone else tried this. Windows 7 has a backup/restore feature that can make a system disk image. So I was thinking of trying that. Uninstalling the Parallels tools then creating a disk image. Then making my Bootcamp partition and copying my disk image created earlier onto that partition.
I was under the impression that a Windows license is per machine (i.e. a single license can be used to install it in bootcamp AND in a virtual machine) -- is this correct?
I have a few relatively light-weight Windows-only programs that I need to start using on my Macbook Pro. I'm deciding whether to install them on Bootcamp or use VM Ware Fusion.A couple questions please1) To use Windows with Bootcamp, do I need to install Windows XP on Bootcamp?2) What is your opinion? Go with Bootcamp, or install a virtual machine? I am aware that Bootcamp requires a restart to return to my Mac - and that programs will work faster on Bootcamp over a virtual machine.3) But what if I installed BOTH (Bootcamp and a virtual machine using VM Ware Fusion) just until I figure out what I prefer? Does that mean that two separate instances of Windows XP installation will occur on my hard drive?
At work we use a proprietary Windows only application that is not too much unlike Microsoft Outlook (as an example). It's the only windows software I will need to run on my Mac.
My question is what is the best way to run it, so my Mac stays cool, and reliable? I'm not interested in running any of the "free trials" they offer as time is at a premium, as I'm sure it is for you.
I will be getting a macbook pro 13" and I want to do a little gaming, call of duty and a few other games. Would I get better performance with bootcamp in xp or Windows 7
I just got a 2.26 Ghz macbook pro 13" and I want to do a little light gaming so I am wondering what bootcamp to run.. Should I run XP or Windows 7. What will have better performance and will directx10 be that big of a difference on games COD MW2?
I'm having trouble updating from bootcamp 3.0 to 3.1 in windows 7 PRO 32-bit. Both windows OS and MAC OS X are fully updated. I've tried running the apple software update program and I don't get any error messages, it tells me to restart and after the restart Bootcamp is still 3.0. I've tried downloading the file and running the file. But when I go to run the file nothing happens! I've tried to re-download the file again but still no luck.
Recently got my first MBP and I love it, however felt the need to instal Windows 7 x64 to play games. There is one problem though, after trying everything and looking everywhere, or so I think, I have yet to get the built in Mic to work under windows 7 x64 to use it with skype or teamspeak.
I have a new MBP mid 2010 15" with the hi res screen and 500GB 7200 RPM HDD. The Bootcamp Manager keeps crashing. I have download and installed what Apple is calling BootCamp 3.2 x64 but when the app crash message comes up it say 3.1. I am out of ideas why the bootcamp manager will not run.
I've read around saying most cases you need to update Video Drivers. Since I'm on a Mac with Windows 7 in bootcamp it's not that simple, I think? Should I just put in Mac cd to install drivers again or any method to fix a disappearing Windows 7 start bar in bootcamp? It happens every time I boot into Windows now.
Today I decided install Win7 on my MBP and while partitioning the HDD using bootcamp I encountered the following error. Consequently, I used the Disk Utility in order to partition the drive. However it too failed (even for smaller sizes). How do I go about partitioning the hard drive? Erase everything and restore from backup?
I know a couple guys in the MBP refresh gaming thread were able to overclock using Nvidia Tools. I'm not having any luck; the sliders are grayed out and I can't make any changes with system tools 6.06. I've also got errors when trying to install Nvidia drivers other than the ones included with Bootcamp. What driver/system tools version are you using to OC? And what settings have you tried? (I'm on Windows 7 64bit).
I've got an SSD in the HDD space, and a newmodeus HDD bay in the optical drive (same thing as the optibay). So what I was thinking was to install windows in a partition on the 500gb HDD. My SSD is only 80GB so I wanted to save space on that. Here is what I have tried: Macbook set up with SDD and HDD, no optical drive. Bootcamp will not let me install windows using an ISO image, needs a CD to install.
So I put my HDD in the HDD bay and put the optical drive back in. I then started up the macbook using a firewire drive (HDD has no OS on it, only the SDD does). Bootcamp then tells me it can't partition an external disk and I have to boot up using an internal disk (even though I WANT to partition the internal disk... bootcamp wouldnt let me get to that option running off a firewire drive). It seems like the only thing left is to just install windows on an SSD partition.
Anyone install Windows 7 via bootcamp on the 2010 Air? [URL]. Be interested in hearing your comments, on disc space used, boot times into windows, memory usage, and any other things worth mentioning, does bootcamp allow you to choose the partition size?
Noticed with a Win7 bootcamp install the SSD is not detected and scheduled disk defragmentation would best be turned off manually. You may also want to turn off hibernation to save from 2-4GB of disc space. A full install of Win7 takes about 10GB and runs excellent.
I saw this on the internet and I was wondering if anyone has been able to do that here. I would love to hear your experience with the procedure. Here is the link that I ran into. Really interesting [URL]
I just bought my first Apple, a 13" macbook pro. I'm using VirtualBox to run windows xp 32bit to run a few windows only applications.
I can't seem to adjust the screen resolution in windows to 1280x800 (fullscreen for my laptop display). Please let me know if there is a nvidia control center software or something else I need to accomplish this.
Windows XP on my MacBook Air for a few months. However, for the second time, my Windows XP Virtual machine has disappeared as if I never installed it. I recently ran a suggested Apple OS update. Could that be resetting VM and causing it to wipe out my VM? 60
I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro, just that you guys know. For my programming work with the robot (C/Assembler) I will need either Windows or a Linux OS. This is why I'm asking. I really hate Windows and I don't want to install that and besides, Linux is a much better option for compiling my code, etc..Should I use a virtual machine or should I install Linux (Ubuntu) on another partition of my internal HDD.
I will need to install quite a lot of stuff and I'm not sure whether my 4GB of RAM will be enough to run Ubuntu on top of Snow Leopard using a virtual machine. I will need to use another old computer or my parent's desktop for loading to compiled files onto the robot (my IR Tranceiver has a RS 232 connector). I have another old laptop which we commonly use as a 'tryout' computer, but for the most part I want my MacBook to be the computer I use because I cannot take that old (and really heavy) laptop with barely working batteries and super-laggy Win XP to school, where I will do a great deal of the work. So I definitely want Linux on my mac.The partition can be small, I will only need about 15-20GB of space (including the Linux).
I have an alienware desktop with 1TB RAID 0 for general purposes and a new-generation 13" Macbook Pro (4GB/GeForce 320M/250GB). Anyways I provided this information to help with a question. Can I create a shared folder on my Desktop and set Time Machine to back up to it over the network?
I installed snow leopard, the GM version, and after getting nice and settled I wanted to install windows 7, in bootcamp. So I create the partition, and then thats the end of it. None of the start up buttons will work, I tried holding down the X button while the mac starts up, but nothing will happen. The apple logo doesn't show up either. Right now, I booted off of ubuntu, and I'm on firefox. It seems the buttons don't work and I don't know why. Also, when I put in the windows 7 dvd, it just read:
1. 2. Choose cd-rom to boot up from: or something like that.
I just installed Windows 7 on my bootcamp partition. I have a macbook pro intel. Everything is loading fine, i ran the windows 7 update and all things are up to date. I now need to load my bootcamp drivers. I restored my Snow Leopard image file onto a portable HD. Double checked in osx and everything loaded fine.
Now, my problem is.. from Windows 7, when I plug in my usb hd, it does not load. Is there a reason why windows does not recognize the usb hd as a bootable install disc? When I am back in OSX and plug in the drive, it loads just fine. Anyone know if there is something I can do to get windows to boot the usb drive? The last resort I want to do is burn the image file to dvd.
I want to install bootcamp with using Win 7 but I have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Am I able to use 64 bit without problem or do I need to stay with the 32 bit version? I am using a iMac (early 2009 model) with 8 GB ram and ATI 4850 HD video 512 MB ram.
Is it possible to install Boot Camp 3.0 or higher on Windows 7 64-bit when dual booting with Leopard? What I've been reading suggests I need the Snow Leopard disc for Boot Camp 3.0+ and Windows 7 compatibility, but I only have the Leopard OEM disc.
