I just bought my first mac a few days ago. It's a white macbook with snow leopard. I'm still getting used to everything on the mac side
I partitioned the 250 GB hard disk as:
Partition 1: 70 GB, Mac OS X
Partition 2: 150 GB, FAT32 for data sharing
Partition 3: 30 GB, FAT32 for Windows XP running through bootcamp
Everything works fine so far, OS X and Windows XP can see all three partitions. Now I'd like to run Windows in a virtual machine. I've done a lot of searching and can't find a solution where both Mac OS and the virtualized machine can see the large FAT32 shared Partition. Is there any way to make this work, and should I use VMware fusion or parallels?
If this is not possible, can Mac OS at least see the shared partition and copy files to the windows partition while the virtual machine is running so that the windows parition can access some of the files that were originally on the shared partition?
Is there an easy way to increase the partition size of my virtual machine?

I would like to get great performance whenever I use Windows XP and would like to know which installation procedure would help accomplish that.

I'm getting messages stating "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory." I've determined that my system memory is rapidly reducing after the MacBook Air is left on with only the Activity Monitor and Terminal open.

My SSD drive space is rapidly reduced after the "free memory" is almost completed used - the MacBook then starts using the SSD drive as virtual memory and almost uses that space (I have a 250GB drive with 60GB available when I start the mac).Everything works great for the first 5-10 minutes, then I see the "free memory" decrese until it's down to about 30MB or so and then the SWAP used increases until my hard drive is almost totally out of space and gives me the error above. During this time the MacBook Airs little fan turns on.I can only use my Mac for about 30 minutes or so until I have to restart due to the HD being filled up by the virtual memory SWAP. The Mac is also very slow during this time as you can imagine.

I use Parallels to create a virtual PC running Windows 7. I have installed Office 2010 on the PC side and Office 2011 on the Mac. All VBA works fine on the PC side, but bombs on the Mac. It was my understanding (directly from Apple) that with the release of Office 2011 for the Mac that all code was now conforming with the PC version. This is probably true for new code written under Office 2010 (PC), however, most all of my applications have been developed over time through many versions of Windows based software (probably the last 10 years)…to date I have never had an issue with compatibility (on the Windows side). I have done some online research into the errors that I receive, however I am really an novice/intermediate programmer and am unable to find adequate solutions to the initial problems (as shown below).Â
Once I receive the run-time error 1004 I use the debug feature, etc. and end with "Can't find project or library. The initial error is probably just the beginning, but I am unable to go forward from this point.

i have running some Virtual Machines on my Mac Mini Server that i want to start and stop dynamicly. I thought i can do that with CGI-Scripts. If i know the correct URL the VM will start or stop. The problem is that the script must be started with my user-id. The _www user cannot start the VM's. Is it possible that i run a CGI-Script with a different user-id? Or do you have an other idea how can i realise my requirement.Â

We are a small company that just recently started using Lion Server for a few simple services. We've been pretty happy with it and are considering trying to host our email on it as well, as we've had a little trouble lately with our hosted email being rejected as spam (since they're shared services). It seems to work correctly in a controlled environment on test email accounts that I've created, but I'm having trouble figuring out if it's possible to allow smtp relaying from a device (cell phone, tablet, computer) outside of the local network when the sending from is a virtual address.Â
Basically, it seems "user@company1.com" can send from devices off the network and authentication allows them to. However, we have two sister companies that we need email for as well. I would like them to be able to send messages from "user@company2.com" or "user@sister3.com."Â
When I try to send from one of those test accounts on an iphone outside of the local network, it says "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipent "recipient@addressee.com" was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying."Â If I add the specific IP address of that device to my allowed relay list, the message sends with no problem. Obviously, I don't want wide ranges of IP addresses allowed to use the relay service. Is there no way to allow relaying from any IP address based on an authenticated user?Â

Problem:
I have 8 Virtual screens and usually use one for mail, filer, and one for browser and so on. With Mission Control I used to get all the screens in the top and the collection of windows of the current screen.
Now I only get the windows of the current screen. I still can switch to the first 4 screens (Ctrl 1 ... 4 ) But not further :-(I use CMD TAB to switch now.Â

The other day I didnt have anything to do so i was just having fun a little with some drawings on painter and photoshop while doing my everyday stuff (watching some streaming videos, or listening to music..etc) since it is my only computer, i do it for my work but also for my fun when I have nothing to do. When I watch a streaming video, let's say from youtube, i have it in full screen in one screen and on the other screen, I do my other stuff, like msn and doodling on photoshop and painter with my tablet..etc and my computer starts to lag, starts to respond very slowly, in a way that i cant do anything at all, and the streaming starts to play slow as well, then i reduce the size of the video instead of full screen and it looks a lil better for some time but then again it slows down my computer. Then when I check Activity Monitor I notice that I still have 10-12 GB free ram since I have only my everyday stuff open. but it shows 54 GB virtual memory and I dont understand what uses this much memory? I mean ok I make multi tab browsing..Etc but not more than I used to do on my old pc laptop with 4 gb ram, why does it use virtual memory when I still have 10 GB free ram? what should i do to avoid such situation other than not opening those applications at the same time? I have files to burn into a cd, but all of my cd ran out. I was thinking about using a virtual clonedrive. Is there any way to make from a .iso file to a real cd file? (Has the cd icon, and not the white dvd player icon) It has to fool the mac to think that I inserted the cd, when it's just a virtual cd. Please don't put useless comments, such as 'Why don't you buy a cd'. The reason I want to use a virtual clonedrive is that I just need one cd, but they all sell in bundles of 30,50,etc.

I have an 40 GB SSD installed on my 2010 iMac 27" with a 2TB HDD hosting the users folder. I was running Transmission and encoding a DVD when I was told that I am out of Virtual Memory and must restart.
My question is: will using the SSD for Virtual Memory affect its performance down the line (as they should not be written to too much.) If so, how can I change my virtual memory storage location? *Xupport didn't work.
I am interested to see if any MR users out there use their Mac Pro for running multiple virtual machines concurrently? Plenty of folks run one or two even on a MBP with little problems at all. I am considering running 4 at the same time. Is this going to work? I plan on running Vmware Fusion 3 with 4 virtual machines with Windows 2003 Server Enterprise. I have a mac powerbook g3 laptop and have successfully installed Virtual PC on. My problem is that when I open Virtual PC it just comes up with a black Virtual PC programme window. Once its done that I am unable to do any thing with Virtual PC because its frozen and in order to get out of the programme I have to force quit it. What do I do to get it to run windows 98? View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed TuneCloner to import audio-cds as mp3 (before figuring out that also iTune can do that). TuneClone has installed a virtual cd burner on my system, this is what System Profiler reports:

How can I remove it?? It makes Disk Utility crash and makes a cd icon appear on my desktop. I've read some post on this site about something like this, but I still couldn't get rid of my virtual drive... On TuneClone web site I was told how to hide the icon, but I don't want to just hide it... I'd like to get entirely rid of it!

I use gmail and follow the usual precautions against opening strange documents, etc. (I also have a supplemental fan sitting under it)
I have no virus or malware or spyware protection on either the mac or the PC, although I do run occasional checks for them and have never found anything suspicious.
Just wondered what the difference was as I have a copy of Virtual Pc 6 and cant yet have bootcamp til I upgrade everything.
