Every since I upgraded my OS to 10.9, my performance has been going downhill. Now, even though I have reformatted my hard drive and have not even put any new data on it, it takes 45 minutes to restart and 25 minutes for me to open the window to write this message. Below is my system info. Why my system seems to have slowed down so much. You can see there is nothing on the hard drive to slow it down.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro seems to take long to start any application, especially when it was in standby. I bought it in 2009 and wanted to use iCLoud. Therefore I bought Snow Leopard, Lion and new version of iPhoto. Is it just the consequence of the upgrades that are too heavy for the "old" processor?

I just recovered from a hard drive failure via Super Duper. Went to do a post crash Time Machine and it is taking HOURS. What gives.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible. Last night I went to use my imac and for some reason every wed page I would try and go to either wouldn't open, would time out, or would load so slowly as to be almost no use at all. I reset my modem (I use a wired, ethernet connection) and everything was fine with the internet connection (or so it seemed) because I checked to see if I was able to torrent for instance and that worked just fine. The problem seemes to be based solely around browsing the internet (using both safari and chrome).

A new problem has cropped up recently with my MS Word for Mac 2008. Sometimes when I try to scroll, either with the scrolling wheel or by dragging the bar, Word responds slowly and jerkily. There's a huge delay between when I try to scroll and when the document actually moves. This doesn't happen all the time, but it is happening with increasing frequency.Â

shift + control + cmd + 3 used to work, as did + 4 to capture sections, but as of today these featuers no longer work. I hear the camera noise as if its working, yet nothing shows up on the desktop. I've tried restarting and I've tried changing the location of where the shots go. No dice.Â

did a quick search on Apple, and here but didn't turn up much of anything useful. I've got a friend with an iMac that won't boot up. Pressing the power button doesn't seem to do much of anything. I've tried unplugging the power cord, and re-plugging it, but alas, I got the fan to rev up for a second and then blahh, nothing again. It's a 20" model with the black bezel. Not entirely sure of the system specs, I only got a couple minutes with it last night. Do these machines have any common problems like this?

I turned of my mac the other day, it took 5 minutes to turn on. Bluetooth wouldn't work and the keyboard and mouse can't connect without it how can I turn it on? I have a small USB mouse to scroll around but how can I turn it on without a keybord. I looked on the bluetooth menu it just said bluetooth no available.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHours before the iMac was fine but the next time took too long to startup and when it worked there was not Bluetooth available. I did already repair permissions and disk, everything seems to be fine, the status of the volumen is "verified", but still taking too long to start up and no news from bluetooth. In /Library/Preference Panes/ there is a Bluetooth pane.

I recently replaced my internal hard drive in my 20" iMac and it worked beautifully for about a week. Then, suddenly it started making a horrible clicking noise upon startup or when waking up from sleep. It goes on for about 10 minutes and then eventually tapers off and quiets down. But it happens every time I start up the computer or when I wake it up after it's been asleep for a while.I don't seem to be having any other problems with the functionality of the computer.Everything is accessible and working OK on the computer.I am just worried because many years back when I had a PC the internal hard drive failed after I heard a similar clicking noise, although it's been going on for a few weeks on my Mac without worsening, and my PC hard drive failed within a couple of days of the start of the clicking.
Is it possible that this is a fan or some other internal mechanism that possibly got jarred or moved slightly when I replaced the hard drive?Or a bad hard drive?I don't really want to open up the computer all over again but at this point, I suppose I have to.I am just not sure what to look for when I do.urls...

Just happening within the last couple weeks... 2.9GHz i5 iMac running 10.9.3..Energy Saver settings set to default from day 1..Display is set to turn off after 10 minutes, put hard disks to sleep when possible, and wake for network access. The screen used to pop right back on after hitting the keyboard or moving the bluetooth mouse... Now it still sometimes comes right back and other times take up to 15 seconds. Just happening the last 2-3 weeks.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy work computer (Windows), but my 2012 iMac that I've had for 2 years has worked flawlessly up until recently. A few days ago it started taking forever to display files in finder. I had to keep relaunching, and it would freeze. I tried the workaround that was posted here but that didn't work either. It went away for a few days, but last night it really came back with a vengeance. The relaunch finder trick only showed the current folder, while navigating to other folders would simply show the loading icon forever. Â
Also, my iMac was shutdown for over an entire day yesterday, and when I turned it on the " Your computer restarted because of a problem". came up. I've never experienced this problem before, but after 3-4 tries it finally logged in to the Home screen. This is when I noticed the above (finder problems) returning from a few days ago after being absent. The finder issues continued, so I restarted the mac, and it just kept cycling over and over (reboot, try to load, auto-reboot, etc.).
Is this an issue with the HDD? I did a disk utility check the other day and it said everything was in great shape.
I have a 2006 Intel Macbook with a crashed hard drive. I'm kinda broke right now, so instead of buying a new hard drive I loaded ubuntu 10.4 onto an external hard drive (USB) and tried to boot the macbook from it. (Failed). I hold down option to launch Startup Manager and all it shows me is a cursor (no drives). I know the external drive is bootable because I a) booted the laptop from a LiveCD and used it to create the hard drive and b) I booted a Dell from the external. I've tried moving the drive to a different USB port, but no chips. I don't have anything else connected to the computer.Â
my question is: Can I boot the macbook from the external hard drive if the internal hard drive is shot?
