Last week I downloaded the latest MAC OS and the latest Safari (beta) version as my Safari is extremely slow. Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem and it takes quite a long time to load pages from all sites that normally don't give any problems.
On my other computer (old Windows machine) this is working fine. This Windows computer as well as my MAC are connected via the same router to the internet, so that should not be the problem (I guess).
How can I find and solve the problem with the slow Safari?
At this current stage i have the white macbook, which i love. I'm looking into getting a iMac 24. Just a few things which worry me. I will be using adobe photoshop all the time for designing sites, is there a need to have a 8800 upgrade to let it run smoothly? Are you able to upgrade the graphics cards in iMac's after purchase? Also, been reading about and all this stuff about a new iMac. If true, whens it likely going to happen?

Since i got my 24" imac back 2 years ago, i always put it into sleep mode. I upgraded to SL a couple weeks back. Just in the past 2 days, when i put it into sleep mode, it takes a while for it to actually perform this operation. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Why or how to stop Safari 5 from beach balling and crashing? I did not have the problem with Safari 4. It done it 3 times today in about 5 minutes. I had a problem last month loading mail from ATT/Yahoo and typed a series of numbers in DNS and that fixed that now this stuff. I thought Apple was better than this. I don't have any problem with Firefox.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got four computers (2 OSX, 2 XP)and an NAS networked and sharing internet via DSL from Verizon using their Actiontec GT704WG modem. All computers are connected via gigabit ethernet (NOT wireless, though the Actiontec wireless is used by some appliances in the house (Wii, iPhones, TiVo, Airport Express, occasional laptop). I am not using the router features of the Actiontec. I have 1 ethernet cable going from the Actiontec into a gigabit switch and the computers are connected to the switch. I can tell from the switch they are all networked at gigabit speeds (except for the Actiontec, of course).
File transfers and connections between my computers appears to be fine, but internet connections appear to get bogged down regularly. On all the computers, the biggest symptom I see is that pages will refuse to load or only load partially. Most of the time, if I reload the page, it will finally load, but sometimes it takes multiple tries before the page finally loads completely. The only way to fix the problem is to reset our internet connection. Sometimes just powering down the Actiontec for 15 seconds works. Most of the time, I have to power it down, and unplug it for 30 seconds. Sometimes I have to do this multiple times before everything is fixed and the computers can access internet again. I find I have to do this anywhere from twice a day to once every other day.
I need put my cursor in the browser address bar for the site to finish loading and for the sculling to work. I've updated to the latest flash plugin. Problem seems to come and go. My 3 yr old is always pushing buttons on my keyboard so I thought he did something the browser settings.

Just happening within the last couple weeks... 2.9GHz i5 iMac running 10.9.3..Energy Saver settings set to default from day 1..Display is set to turn off after 10 minutes, put hard disks to sleep when possible, and wake for network access. The screen used to pop right back on after hitting the keyboard or moving the bluetooth mouse... Now it still sometimes comes right back and other times take up to 15 seconds. Just happening the last 2-3 weeks.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my macbook pro for about a month. Its everything you read about when you make the switch. Great build, screen, keyboard, stable, ease of use. Everything...except internet surfing. It's a big disappointment. I spend a lot of time waiting for pages to load..or getting the safari can't open message. (When I refresh this page I often will get the page to pop right up.)
I loaded a plug in recommended in the site "my first mac"...but no difference. I loaded firefox but get the same results. My 3 year old sempron dell inspiron and my wifes new Dell studio 17 both kick the macbook pro's butt in surfing so i don't believe its my home network. I have gone to the genius bar and they did some minor stuff but I have the same issues still.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy work computer (Windows), but my 2012 iMac that I've had for 2 years has worked flawlessly up until recently. A few days ago it started taking forever to display files in finder. I had to keep relaunching, and it would freeze. I tried the workaround that was posted here but that didn't work either. It went away for a few days, but last night it really came back with a vengeance. The relaunch finder trick only showed the current folder, while navigating to other folders would simply show the loading icon forever.
Also, my iMac was shutdown for over an entire day yesterday, and when I turned it on the " Your computer restarted because of a problem". came up. I've never experienced this problem before, but after 3-4 tries it finally logged in to the Home screen. This is when I noticed the above (finder problems) returning from a few days ago after being absent. The finder issues continued, so I restarted the mac, and it just kept cycling over and over (reboot, try to load, auto-reboot, etc.).
Is this an issue with the HDD? I did a disk utility check the other day and it said everything was in great shape.
spinning ball with movement and clicking cursor. spins forever. temporary fix running disc utilities, clean my mac and roboot. Same error found in safari preferences but recurs frequently and requires repeating fix for brief correction.

I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM
In the second week the boot up times became very slow.
I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.
Then just a black/blank screen.
Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.
Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).
I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.
I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.
But now when I switch it on just darkness.
I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.
I have a library of high end clip art and photography from Liquid Library 2003/2004. I've never had any problems using them with my system yet yesterday my iMac spit all of them without loading them. I even cleaned them and tried again. They still would not load. There is nothing on the CDs that should conflict, they are just jpegs, illustrations and photos created for using with high end graphics. Is there a reason this happened suddenly?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIMNSHO resizing windows only from the bottom right corner sucks big time. I'd like to be able to resize windows from any corner or side.
I'm wondering if there is a 3rd party solution to resizing windows in OS X? Any software that can do this?
I know this has been discussed many times here, but I couldn't find any solution. Let's not argue this time, if this is really needed. This is just something that I want. I'd be happy to pay few $, if that's the only way to get it, but free/open solutions are what I'd prefer.
Basically I have a MacBook Pro which logs in fine when I'm at work but when I'm on my home network it takes like 5 minutes to authenticate. All appearances are that it's trying to reach my work network to authenticate. Short of disabling wireless or having it prompt for my home network password before joining wireless, is there any way that I can either shorten the timeout or have it bypass network authentication when I'm at home?
