i would like to find a cable to go from my canon 60d camera to the firewire port. i have been to numerous places and they do not have it. i could not find it at canon as well.

I have a firewire 400 camera that i'm using for a project and one firewire 800 slot on my iMac (Late 2009). When I plug the camera in, nothing responds no matter what I do - tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. Compare this to my older iMac (Late 2007) which has both firewire 800 and 400 ports. I plug it in and it pops up using the underlying Quicktime controller api on either the 800 or 400 port no problem. So I figured after trying to install a firewire camera library (libdc1394) which I need for my project which didn't work, that it must be a hardware issue, so I took it to the Apple store. The genius at the store booted the OS (Lion) from a firewire drive via 400 to 800 cable (no external power to the f/w drive was used) and then using the spare 400 slot on the hard drive, he plugged (daisy chaining) in my camera and it loaded! So this suggested 2 things - my OS is corrupt or my card can't read straight from my device but why a hard drive in between would change this is beyond me. I came home and installed OS X on to an external USB hard drive and loaded up from it - so this is a fresh version of Lion, there should be no software issues. Plug the camera in to the I/O board of the iMac but load the OS from the external USB hard drive - nothing happens, the profiler doesn't detect anything at all. On a side note, I installed XP and Ubuntu Linux and they also can't detect it, which further suggests its the device or I/O board when interfacing directly with this camera. I've tried providing the devices with external power, daisy chaining 2 cameras, using a usb hub....nothing works. Just for good measure, I tried to boot Lion off the external USB on my older iMac and again, it worked no problem, which to me really narrows it down to the hardware.Â
I feel like perhaps the port is a bit dodgy and when the genius daisy chained it, it worked better, but no idea why. Someone said I should get a firewire 400 to usb adaptor

I have a Dell monitor which has a Display port input and I want to use it as a second monitor. The DVI input in the Dell monitor is taken up.Â
But how do I connect from the mini-display in the iMac to the Display port in Dell monitor ? Doesn't look like aplle sell this connector cable !Â

I have a late 2009 iMac with Firewire 800 input on the back. I have a Western Digital Passport external hard drive with USB Micro-B input that I would like to connect to the Firewire (4 USB inputs aren't nearly enough on the iMac). My video camera (JVC) has a USB port, when I connect the cord from the video camera to the macbook, it doesn't recognize it. I assume you can connect it to the computer this way since it has a USB port on the cam. The cam has firewire (which mac doesn't) and it charges from a dv connection.

I've had the 13" aluminum macbook since October 2008 and I've never had a problem with the wireless or an Ethernet connection. I turned on my computer the other day and I couldn't connect to the internet through my ethernet port. I've determined it's not my connection (friend's macbook connects fine) and I've tried connecting to other ports around my campus and it still doesnt work. On network settings, the light is green, cable detected, assigned an ip address and dns but it simply times out when I try to connect to anything (firefox, itunes store, mail, etc.). I'm fairly new to mac os x.

I have a problem with my Iphoto application. When i open my Iphoto a text box opens up and asks if i would like Iphoto to connect to my digital camera, even though i do not have my camera plugged in. when i go to click one of the three options it freezes up and then must be force quit. I've tried to let it run it coarse in hope that it comes out of the frezze but this has not worked.

I can usually get connected to the tracker, but no peers ever connect. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had a D-Link DI-604 4-port LAN 1-port WAN ethernet router since 2003 which has allowed all of the wired computers in the house access to the internet (I have broadband via a cable modem). I recently introduced an AirPort Express router which I connected to one of the LAN ports on the D-Link and I now have wireless internet access on my MBP with no problems. However I plan to also purchase an AirPort Extreme router to make use of its AirDisk feature and improve wifi reception in the house. From a security perspective, I am wondering if it would be more secure to connect the WAN port on the Extreme to one of the LAN ports on the D-Link, thus in theory being protected by 2 different hardware firewalls? Or does this not make any difference, in which case I should simply replace the D-Link with the AirPort Extreme?
