Jun 23, 2012I accidentally deleted "Downloads" folder using this command in terminal "sudo rm -rf ~/Downloads/ " then used this one "ln -s /Volumes/Bucket/Downloads/ ~/Downloads " to redirect everyhting, but forgot to copy the Downloads folder first, so it doesnt redirect, is there a way for Mac OS X to Re-create the folder? Â

Apr 18, 2012I am a new MAC owner and looking for ways to stream pictures, music from my IMAC to my Sony Internet TV. The Internet TV is wired to the home network by way of ethernet. However----when I go to photos or music on the internet TV it doesn't seem to be able to find the IMAC---just my router. Can this be done without an Apple TV?Â

Jul 1, 2009First off let me confess I am pretty useless with this stuff compared to the people here. I have searched the forums and while there seem to be a lot of people with similar problems, I haven't really seen a solution that I fully understand or that would help me with my specific problem.
The Problem:
I'm using a 3 month old 13.3" Macbook with bootcamp installed. Recently I turned it on and OSX wouldn't load. I had not changed anything on the laptop at all. When it tried to load just got the grey/ blue screen and spinning gear thing. I turned it off and booted into windows no problem. Later I did it again but left it running and eventually OSX did load but the problem recurred when I shut down and now the OSX partition doesn't even show up when I start the computer. Nothing happens for a while and then windows starts. No OSX.
What I've tried:
After looking through the forums here I have tried booting into safe mode and single userness, whatever that is, and it's the same- nothing happens and then windows starts.
I've tried booting from the install disk and running disk utility on the mac partition (it shows up in disk utility) but I get the "invalid node structure" error and it says the disk can't be repaired. When I try to verify I get an error saying the disk "could not be unmounted" (I assume that is a euphemism).
Windows works just fine.
What I really want to know is whether I need to reinstall OSX and, if so, whether I can recover some data first. I just got back from a family wedding and have a number of photos that I hadn't backed up (duh) and I really want to try and get them off the disk.
I understand Diskwarrior might work, but I don't mind reinstalling OSX as long as I can back up the drive first. I have an external USB drive, but absolutely no idea what I would have to do to use it as a backup, or how to recover the photos from it if I do. There is mention on these forums of an "archive/install" option which sounds promising...
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be specific.

Jul 11, 2009Last night I was in the process of backing up my files because my Mac has so much on it, I was transferring older stuff to my external hard drive to open up some space. In the process my computer started acting slow. So I thought I deleted the photos I had already transferred over, instead I deleted all Of my photos from 08-09. They aren't in the the trash can because I emptied it right there...trying to get more space.
Please, is there any way I can recover those files?
I downloaded a program last night, and thought it was free, but once it was done finding all my pictures, it asked for a registration code in order to actually save the photos. I don't have the money to spend a hundred dollars on a program.

Dec 5, 2008I have been trying to download my mini-discs to my MacBookPro.
I have had little success with Garage Band as I cannot really get the hang of such a complex program.
I have had some success using "Audacity". I do manage to get the minidiscs onto the computer. But that is where the problems start.
I obviously want the music in iTunes, but cannot manage to do this. I can get the downloads into any progam except iTunes which just refuses to accept them. I can store them in Music but this is not very satisfactory as it is longwinded to retrieve them and they cannot be downloaded to CDs. The files are in aiff format Which takes up over a gigabyte of space for a 1 hour minidisc. These can be converted to mpeg in iTunes but not in any other program.
I have previously been able to download aiff format music but now find I cannot get them into iTunes.

Dec 22, 2009Recently, my Mac starts playing this same song everytime a download from firefox finishes. Sometimes when I download 2 pictures, one after the other, the same song starts playing twice, overlapping by just a few seconds. I found out it's a song in my computer and has removed it but it still happens. I have reinstalled firefox but the this is still going on.

Sep 3, 2010I always use iPhoto to upload my pictures from my devices, Ive noticed that all the photos are stored under a single fumnail in photos.
If I wanted to transfer these photos to windows how would I separate all the pictures into the format windows views them in, so individual files. Also if i wanted to transfer to another mac do I just move the fumnail?
