Mar 23, 2010I have a few items in my downloads stack, but 3 of them that don't exist in the folder anymore are just sitting there. I can try and move em out but i get the "circle with a slash" thing. And if i drag them to the trash, nothing happens. If i click on them to open it says "application cannot be found"

Dec 4, 2014Initially, the trash container worked as expected: Items would go directly to the trash and stay there until I emptied it.
I don't believe I did anything to cause what it does now but I don't like it: If I move something to to trash, I am prompted to enter my password (which I really don't like) and no items are held in the trash (what I used to call the recycling bin--which I kind of liked having).
As for troubleshooting, I have changed the preference settings under "Finder" and nothing changes.

Feb 11, 2012Re: Burning Desktop files and documents to a DVD - iMac - Lion. According to the "Help" feature, I put in a blank DVD and selected Finder as I was asked to do. I tried to move some files into the blank DVD window from my Desktop. But I could only move ONE file into the blank DVD window. It would NOT let me move any more files into the blank DVD window after moved the first one in. Why is that?
The "Help" featuer said I could move in my files and documents one at a time and them burn them all on the DVD. This is what did for years on my older iMac with Panther.
how to simply burn my Desktop folders and documents to a DVD. I did figure out how to burn ALL of the Desktop items to a DVD at the same time. I am asking about individually moving the items into the DVD window to be burned.

Jun 4, 2014I was using Logic Pro X and the program crashed before I could save my project. There is now a file called "untitled" that appears to be a Logic Project file, however I cannot delete, open, rename, and move it anywhere. When I try to click and drag the file icon, it doesn't allow me to move it anywhere.
When right-click on the file, it pops up the window, but there are only a few options available. I went to "get info" and saw that the file permissions are "unknown". I've tried repairing disk permissions in the disk utility, however the file is still unaccessible.It's not a large file (only 578K), but it would still like to remove it.

Aug 28, 2014I have a 3 TB hard drive which I'd previously partitioned into a 1 TB and a 2 TB partition. I've emptied and erased the 2 TB compartment, but when I go to the partition section on Disk Utility, and select that partition (now called Free Space) and select it, only the + button is alive, and the - button is greyed out.
How can I delete this entire partition?

How do I delete certain of these backed-up messages? If the files were accessible in the Finder, I know how to use the action menu (gear icon) to delete all backups of the chosen file. But I don't see any way to delete the email messages in Mail on T.M.

I must have done something wrong as they items were not in the folders on Drop Box. When I returned to the documents left on my internal hard drive, the folders were intact but the documents in the folders were gone. The documents included keynote presentations, pages docs, numbers docs, and pdf docs.

I usually keep my desktop empty and use it to store stuff I'm going to process in the next hour anyway.
Sometimes my desktop is absolutely empty, but when I navigate to the following path: UserDesktop, the files do show up.
