I'm trying to setup mail on Lion Sever (7.3). The only way I can get it to accept incoming mail is to specify the whole FQDN of the server in the address. For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.
But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).
For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]
I see references here to problems in mail on 7.3 but not this specific problem.

A friend used my Mac a month ago and his email address often comes up in my FROM: email field. I am the default but I must hit it every once in a while and his email address is selected. When my recipient gets my message it's says it's from HIM. How can I delete his name so it isn't a choice in the FROM: email field? I looked in Mail preferences and his email address is NOT listen next to mine under Preferences>Accounts.
Please not this isn't happening in the TO: field. For that I'd just choose WINDOW>Previous Recipients>Delete.
When I start to type an email address in the TO section of my email it attempts to autocomplete the field from my address book data.
This is really useful but it ALSO autocompletes from previous email addresses that I have entered (including ones that are no longer active).
I migrated my contact list from Microsoft Outlook via a CSV file. Everything went fine but for some reason I got a lot of weird characters in the notes section of every contact. Is there a way I can use automator to delete all the entries on the notes field of my Address Book?

If you have a contact in Addressbook (AB) with a nickname, if you also use Apple Mail (AM) and create a new email and start to type the contact's email in the TO field, AM will finish your typing giving you a list of related possible email addresses to choose from. The problem is that in addition to the email addressk AM adds the contact's nickname as opposed to it's firstname/lastname or even business name. We need a preference for this, per contact.Â
Example:Â In AB you have a contact:Â
Name: Jon Doe
Company Doe Company
Nickname: The Doester
email: jon.doe@doecompany.comÂ
In AM you start to write an email:Â and type: "jon" and AM shows you a list of possible related emails one of which will be:Â "The Doester" [URL]Commentary: now if a casual email to a friend, this is OK. But what if this is a business oriented email and "The Doester" isn't appropriate? You can only stop the inclusion of "The Doester" by deleting it from the Nickname field in the AB. This is presumptuous on Apple's part, or a bug, that the Nickname should trump the first/lastname or company name.Â
I don't exactly know the answser to this. If we could easily choose which name to append in front of the email address (firstname/lastname, company name or nickname) that would be cool. Or maybe no name gets added if it has to be: all or nothing from a programming point of view. But having nickname as the primary, if it exists, can be a problem in certain correspondence IMHO.Â

So, is it possible for the address bar "top hit" or "history" to recognize part of a web address if you don't start with it?
For example.
In firefox, when I start typing macrumors, I get forums.macrumors, macrumors....
I opened my safari today and when I was about to type the website that I want to go to I couldn't find the space where you type it at.. I don't know what happened?

Safari keeps changing the text field on input, do you know how to correct this issue?Â
Here is an example:
Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.Â

View 5 Replies View RelatedEver since I updated to 5, my address bar has been autofilling the title of the page I go to, for instance: Say I have been to Zappos and looked at a pair of converse, the title at the top of the window will say something like "Converse shoe etc." Well then say I've looked on [URL] at something before, and I want to go there again. If I start typing "converse" into the address bar, it wants to autfill the "Converse shoe etc." title and take me to the Zappos page instead of [URL] Is there a way to disable this? I liked it the way it was before, If im typing something in the address bar I only want ti to guess urls, not page titles.

The address or go-to tine disappeared from Safari on my Mini. Everything else is there, can link from my bookmarks and from Google, but can't type in new addresses, there's no place for them. I tried downloading a new version of Safari, but it does the same thing. My backup browser, Firefox is unaffected.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI actually just purchased a mac this X'mas.. when I open Safari, there is this address I just can't get rid of [URL]
I have tried to change home page, remove cookies, and run anti virus. NO luck.
And it gets worse.
If I go to facebook, Safari just shut down so fast.
Everytime I go to the address bar and start typing it will give me a list of sites from history/bookmarks to choose from. For example if I type www.e it will come up with every page I've visited beginning with E. Obviously I can clear my history, but how do I stop it displaying sites from my bookmarks? I use my Mac around a lot of people and don't want everyone seeing every other site I've visited.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThis is probably very simple, but how can I remove the history that resides in Safari's address bar?
I guess I could "reset Safari", but then I'd lose all my cookies, and I don't want to do that.
I already emptied the cache, cleared history, restarted Safari, even turned on Private Browsing. The darn address bar history is still there.
I was using safari then all of sudden I hit something and my address bar goes poof
