I have an HP 4050TN LaserJet printer that I had networked via ethernet to my iMac (when it was running just leopard) Once I did all the updates for 10.6.8, I found that my printer is nowhere to be seen, I can't add it. Nothing. When Safari is active, the menubar and the dock disappears. I have chosen not to show/hide dock in system preferences, and whenever any other program than Safari is active, the dock and menubar stays put. My OS is 10.7 - P.S. I have not maximized the Safari-window.
What could cause this, and how do I get the dock and menubar to stay even when Safari is active?

Only a laserprinter is connected. Sometimes I can work for a few weeks without problem, but then the computer freezes. The computer sounds 3 monotone chimes in a row and repeats this, keyboard an mouse become inactive till I do a hard shutdown.Took the computer 2 times to the Apple store, they tested for a week but apparently nothing happened then.

This morning my wireless mouse needed battery replacement. After that, the cursor disappears as I move it away from the dock area. If I move over buttons and am lucky, the proper action will take place but I cannot see the cursor. Sort of like playing Battleship game. Blindly move the mouse and hope I hit something. Although this is new this morning, I've had the same problem in the past but it went away. It seems worse or much more annoying this morning.My wired mouse displays the same problem. I had to borrow my wife's laptop to send this problem. The only program open is Safari.

Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..? I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there.I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
I got this circle spinning on boot as usual, but after I while there is progress bar which is really going slow. When it finishes it dissapears and OS is loading normally. What's that ?

After a few such moves - one screen suddently vanishs (to the right or left). I bring it back by reinstating the application - but then the other screen disappears. So now I can't get the 2 screens to stay on the display at the same time. I don't know exactly what triggers the first disappearance

View 7 Replies View RelatedFirstly I am sorry if this has been posted before, but I did have a look at the Snow Leopard FAQ & a browse through the current topics. And secondly, I am also sorry if I am not using appropriate computer language to describe certain things. I have a 17 inch Macbook Pro I bought in the middle of last year. Before Snow Leopard. So when Snow Leopard came along I went for the upgrade without looking around at compatibility issues with certain software.
So after the upgrade, my EyeTV didn't work, and neither did my internet (I use the ones with the USB stick). So I couldn't even go online to get my EyeTV update. So in my (brief) panick I re-installed Leopard, which wasn't a great idea I guess, because all of a sudden my HD space went down to 50GB from my 500GB of storage. Now I know I didn't have the full 500GB since I did have some photos, music & videos on board. But surely 50GB remaining is quite ridiculous. I think it probably performed a Time Machine backup for me.
Anyway... that was awhile ago. And I was happy to carry on with what I had. But now I think I would like to try what Snow Leopard has to offer. But with only 18GB of space remaining, I think the best option might be to reformat and start over. What do you guys think? My other option is to try to delete as much as I can spare to make room for Snow Leopard. Sorry if this question is a silly one, but I have done a lot of things with my iPhone & with this Mac without thinking & asking first & I have always regretted it. Thanks for any help or suggestions you all can offer.
The disk image icon from my installation of Adobe Flash has randomly disappeared from my desktop. I may have accidently ejected it, but don't think I did. It is now not showing up under my "Devices" list either.
If I have accidently ejected it, does this mean the software is uninstalled?

When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.

It doesn't work for me. I wonder if Glims is conflicting somehow. A reboot got it working, but it's a bit buggy. Sidebar won't turn off. Contextual searches aren't loading.

When opening, changing and saving JPGs in Photoshop Elements 6, the thumbnail disappears and only a generic JPG icon shows. This happens randomly. I read that PSE6 is OK on Mavericks. I don't see the problem with GIMP or Lightzone, but I would like to be able to use PSE. Second, my mouse cursor randomly disappears from the screen from time to time.

When I install an update via Software Update, the installation appears in System Preferences/Software Update/Installed Updates, but then permanently disappears after a period of time. Same issue in Software Update.log.Is this normal?

However, when we move the email to another folder, only one moves and the phantom one disappears. This is annoying. Any thoughts of what we might do?

I recently updated to snow leopard and now I get blue screen on start-up.
I manage to get to enter my password and then to my desktop for a few seconds before it flicks back to my login.
I tried using disk utility from the install disc and it said HD appears to be ok. But it hasn't solved the problem.

Or do you imagine this will be held off until iLife 10? iLife features some of the most resource intensive apps (iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto) used by most users so I believe that Apple could really showcase the improvements brought to Snow Leopard from both OpenCL and Grand Central by doing this asap. Here's to hoping we don't have to wait long for this functionality.

I need to update it and it wonk work. It is the earlier version of the Macbook Pro. I also have some audio problems like when I up the sound it has a cross and says its full. the only way to fix this is to do -SLEEP- and put in headphones then open it.
