I got this circle spinning on boot as usual, but after I while there is progress bar which is really going slow. When it finishes it dissapears and OS is loading normally. What's that ?

I'll bring up 2 application screens for comparing some data. I move them arround a bit to line up data. After a few such moves - one screen suddently vanishs (to the right or left). I bring it back by reinstating the application - but then the other screen disappears. So now I can't get the 2 screens to stay on the display at the same time. I don't know exactly what triggers the first disappearance

Usually, I have my downloads folder (from my external NTFS drive) be a stack in the dock. In Leopard, it would usually load up after a log out, or restart, but with Snow Leopard, it just doesn't seem to load after, like I said a moment ago, logging out or restarting. I have to manually drag it back down every time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was messing with Privoxy and now when I try to access the 'Proxies' tab under System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies nothing happens; the 'Proxies' tab is just gray and no options load. I tried to follow a Lifehacker guide and I messed with the config file for Privoxy. I never got it to work but the 'Proxies' tab was loading whenever I tried it. Then all of a sudden it didn't load anymore. Restarting and uninstalling Privoxy did not solve the problem. I am able to get online; there doesn't seem to be any effects of that tab not working. I'm just irritated and want it to load in case I do want to use it some day.

I have DSL and AirPort Extreme on Snow Leopard imac. Web pages on Sarfari have been loading very slowly lately. I have the Activity window open (Sarfari>Window>Activity) to show all the page items as they are loading. The web pages usually get hung up and not all page items load. I have to Stop and Reload, sometimes several times to get the web page to load completely. This is very frustrating as I've been re-checking AirPort, Browser, and Mail settings. The Mail application runs fine.

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (SL). I have noticed a painfully slow access to sites when using Firefox and Safari. Pages used to load almost instantaneous with Leopard. Now when using either Firefox or Safari on SL, It's taking an average of 8-10 seconds to load a page in my web browser. Feels like I'm on dialup. I have the fastest internet service you can get (Roadrunner Turbo Plus), but for some unknown reason my internet page access is painfully slow. I'm really thinking of using Time Machine to set my Mac back to Leopard, but I really don't want too. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if this problem surfaces, and perhaps a solution can be found.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I am using an HP Color Laserjet 3505n. Will snow leopard work with this printer?

I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store).When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.

I thought I'd upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8, Leopard. All went well except now I can't load the print driver correctly to use all the printer facilities. Yes, I went to the Xerox site, downloaded the drivers then through System Preferences looked for the printer to add. Can't see anything that looks like a Xerox, nothing in Appletalk. Go to more printers and it gives me the option of HP IP Printing, two Epsons and a Canon under auto. So I look at Manual. I did get it to work manually by typing in the IP address, but that doesn't allow me to use any of the features of the printer, just the basic print. I did note that there is something under Windows in the System Preferences, but I'm loathe to fiddle with this until I know what I'm doing. I'm at my wits end. Otherwise it's back to Tiger on my backup which will cause other issues. G4 PowerPC, 1.5Ghz: 2GB DDR SDRAM

My Mac Mini is running software version 10.5.8 and my processor is a 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 with 512 MB RAM. Am I running slow since my Mac Mini is intel? Should I switch it back to Tiger or is there any other suggestions you can make. I have run the disk utility and have run the repair permissions. The computer is especially slow on Safari where it is faster on my MacBook pro.

I have my drive partitioned between Tiger and Snow Leopard. I am trying to move myself over to Snow Leopard so I don't have to keep switching. The problem is that my old apps that alledgedly will work in SL, give me an error box when I launch them. It happens with Appleworks 6 and Quicken 2007. Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.

I don't know about you, but Snow Leopard's aurora is so much cooler. I used a program called "Desktop 2 Login" to change the default wallpaper for the login screen to a different wallpaper. Using this same program I changed it back to L's Aurora. (Still in 10.5). When I upgraded to snow leopard, the login wallpaper did not change. It is still stuck on L's aurora. I have used about every method besides Terminal, and it won't change.
