I have bought 2 new 27" iMacs running Mavericks. I've got two problems. When opening, changing and saving JPGs in Photoshop Elements 6, the thumbnail disappears and only a generic JPG icon shows. This happens randomly. I read that PSE6 is OK on Mavericks. I don't see the problem with GIMP or Lightzone, but I would like to be able to use PSE. Second, my mouse cursor randomly disappears from the screen from time to time.

I bought Fusion and ran Windows 7 in a VM - within a few minutes my MBP (17" i7 4GB RAM) was wayyyyy hot (left side bottom/top). I mean, I am a little concerned with how hot it gets. I'll look into smcFancontrol but want to know if upgrading to 8GB RAM will do the trick as well?

I will be buying a new iMac and would like to have enough RAM for good permormance of Windows 7 using VMware fusion. I can order either 4GB of RAM or 8GB? or maybe even 6GB.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed windows xp pro through fusion 2 in my 15' macbook pro, the memory it gets shared is 512mb and the hard drive gets 40GB. Is it enough to run accounting and office softwares with total satisfaction? Secondly, can I run windows compatible program through the use of fusion 2 without running windows os everytime? Does that way save power to extend power life? Additionally, I just found that the white background color of the accounting program really hurts my eyes. Is there certain ways to make white background color look moderate to the eyes?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have one of the black macbooks with c2d, a GMA950 graphics card, and 2 gig of ram. When I run Windows XP in Fusion, the fan runs almost constantly - even without any windows applications running (antivirus is running). This bothers me.
It's getting time for me to consider a new laptop. Does anyone have any experience with the GeForce 9400M or 9600GT video card laptops? I'm wondering if my experience will be different with either video card.
I have a MacBook Pro and sometimes run VMWare Fusion / XP so that I can sync some older Nokia phones I have (that only run on PC Suite). However, my older phones don't utilize cables...you can only sync with Bluetooth or IR.I opened up the Control Panel and looked for a "Bluetooth Devices" icon, but couldn't find one. Then I opened up the Nokia "PC Suite" and Connectivity window and it gave me the option of clicking (ie: selecting to turn ON) Bluetooth and IR, but when I did, it said that this function was not available. What am I missing? My MBP obviously has all the Bluetooth and IR whistles, but when running VMWare Fusion / XP, the computer seems to disavow any knowledge that these options/functionalities are installed and working on the Mac side.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed VM Fusion 3.0, it is really much faster running Windows Vista with it.
Anyway, my main issue is, when I opened Activity Monitor, I realized that VMF 3.0 runs in the background when the computer start, is there anyway to totally shut it off if I am not using it?
Also, on the top right tool bar, there is a "bi-head" arrow of VMF 3.0, how to get rid of it?
I got a second hand macbook pro on tuesday, it is the 13" 2010 model and is two months old. However it keeps causing me all kinds of problems, and I am not sure if it is my fault, a hardware fault or something else. I'll describe what I've done to it; When I got it I wiped the hard drive and did a clean install of OSX, then I imported everything from my old mac through migration assistant. However when I then started using my new mac, the 'home' folder was a different name so some files didn't match up, like my dropbox account and some games. I don't know if this has caused other problems within the directories or anything like that.
It is usually fine for about 6 hours, it's pretty quick and I have been through disk utility in this time and the verify process has been ok. However after this time the it starts being really slow. Like I'm talking 10 - 15 minutes to open an application. Every time this happens I open disk utility to check on it, and it always needs to be repaired as there are folders and directories missing. However when I turn it off and go into disc utility through the install disc it doesn't let me repair it as the drive cannot be unmounted, but then the HD disappears from disk utility completely.
On top of this I tried to install XP through boot camp earlier, but the partition wouldn't format, so I went back through boot camp assistant and deleted the partition. However whenever I turn it on I have to hold down the command key and select the Macintosh HD, because if i don't it tries to boot into windows, even though the partition has been deleted and the HD merged back into the Mac HD. When I boot through the command key, the only option there is the Mac HD, so I don't know where it is getting windows from.
The battery is not what I expected in this thing either. I have put this on another post but I wanted to complain about it again. I have noticed that on a full charge i only get 6 - 7 hours browsing the internet, way off the 'approximately 10 hours'. When I go into istat menus apparently it has a cycle count of 68 and the health of the battery is 89%, which seems very low to me. Whenever I do manage to get it to turn on, it never remembers my settings for the back lit keyboard or the screen brightness. They are always on full whack even though I turn them down to half every time I use it.
Basically, on this fine christmas day (don't get me started on that, the dog got more presents than I did and now my mum is singing Susan Boyle at the top of her lungs) I was wondering if any of you could help me with these problems? I'm thinking I may just have to wipe the HD again and reimport everything manually but I really don't want to do that. I do love Apple Macs and I don't want to get rid of this thing, but it is driving me mental. I turned the Macbook Pro on when I started writing this on my old Macbook. It is now 8 minutes later and it has still not booted. It is just sat there looking all smug with the spinny thing below the apple on the grey screen.
I have tried booting it up from the startup disk and when it tries to find the harddrive to install on it takes a long time to find it then the icon disappears off the screen and I can't select anything

I have an Airport Extreme network with an XBox 360 hooked up to it via ethernet. I would like to be able to use the XBox 360 as a media extender using the Windows Media Center running in Vista on my MacBook Pro. Vista Ultimate is running under VMware's Fusion and not as a bootcamp partition (not sure if this matters, but thought I'd mention it just in case). The MacBook Pro is using Wi-Fi (N) to connect to the Airport Extreme.
I followed the directions on the [URL] page, and all four things below that are required to be checked (given permission to run) or running as directed, yet I still get the message stating the Xbox could not be found. UPNP is indeed running.
What am I missing? Do I have to open ports on the Airport Extreme, even if the computer and xbox are on the same network? Do I have to open anything on the MacBook Pro on the Mac OS side?
So I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running Mavericks. I was wondering if I can add an internal SSD in the CD/DVD slot and keep my existing 1TB hard drive. Essentially creating a Fusion Drive.

Well my MacPro 2009 has this weird error where the fans will kick in and a restart wont restore them to normal a sleep cycle will though. It seems to only happen with OpenCL intensive apps but not Cuda intensive apps?? this may be random coincidence.

I recently replaced a failed hdd in my late 2009 aluminum 20 inch. I watched countless teardowns and hdd replacement videos and picture guides before I did this at it was my first mac machine. Not every time, but occasionally when I restart the machine the temp will be some where in between 79- 86 degrees f and the fan will be going at 1500rpm randomly for about 30 seconds and then stops. Other than that everything has been flawless since the replacement.
Did I do something wrong? I put the thermistor correctly on the hdd when I reassembled. What could be causing this as before I replaced the hdd I never heard the fan at all. Mac was bought on august 2, 2009, when hdd died I tried to have apple exchange it, but the wanted to give me a refurbished imac. Since I have had terrible luck with any refurb in the past I just replaced the hdd in it myself.
I do NOT have the superdrive and would like to install windows XP pro on my MBA with VMware Fusion. I've tried making .dmg, .iso, & .cdr images of the windows XP disc but i'm having NO luck with Fusion recognizing the disc image. When I create the new Virtual Machine I select "use disc image" and point to the appropriate disc image file. I keep getting a "no bootable device" error from fusion.
Can somebody who has successfully installed windows on an MBA without using a superdrive give me the step by step instructions you used...I'm getting pretty annoyed at this point.
My 2007 iMac keeps shutting off randomly. I'm running Mountain Lion. I have tried unplugging it from the back waiting and plugging it back in. Sometimes when I have turned it back on, the fan will run loudly.

I've seen several discussions on external drives randomly ejecting, but didn't see any concise resolution. I have a Western Digital Passport, P/N WD320ME-01 2209A, using the OEM USB (2.0 I think) cable (~12 inches long). My ~4 year old mac book is running OSX 10.7.3. I use this drive for Time Machine B/U. Seemed to work ok (no ejects) when Leopard was the OS, but, after going to Snow Leopard, and now Lion, I get 'disk improperly ejected' errors when trying to run TM, or ever Repair under Disk Utilities. I did get one good TM back up, under Lion, after reformating the drive [extended (journaled)], but the next time I tried to run TM I started getting the 'improperly ejected' errors. Don't know if there is an issue with Lion (and earlier SL), or with WD drives. The fact that it originally worked leads
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro that has been shutting down randomly for quite a while now. It seems to happen most when I have more than one application running but sometimes happens with nothing running at all. It seems that the screen goes off and the sound skips but the keyboard light is still on. I thought it was because I had a bad hard drive but I replaced it and it still randomly shuts down. I ran smart utility and it all passed. I just don't understand what can be causing this? I take this computer to school all the time and it's kind of embarrassing having this shut down on me mid-presentation.

I have a external SATA drive that was used on my old Windows laptop. The interface for the drive is USB 3.0. Whenever i try to view my files on the drive, the drive randomly disconnects, and notifications pop up saying that the drive was not ejected properly.
Also the drive has been reformatted to a Mac format, but it still continues to do this.

I have a 298.1 GB external Western Digital hard drive connected to my iMac by a USB 2.0 cable. It is formatted in NTFS-3G so I can use it with both my PC and Mac. Yesterday in Disk Utility I created a 50GB 256-bit encrypted DMG and told Disk Utility to save it on a folder in my external drive. It got to about 20GB and then my house's power went out. A few hours later when the power came back on, I turned on my computer, and the available space on my external hard drive went down from about 100GB to 68.21GB.
The first thing I thought was that the DMG transfer ended prematurely so I should just find and delete the incomplete DMG from the hard drive. So I went to the folder I saved it in and it was not there. I checked all the folders and I couldn't find any DMG in there. Then I went to the root of the external drive and used Get Info to find the space each folder took up. It adds up to 194.12 GB. So I subtracted 194.12 from 298.1 and got 103.98. If I'm supposed to have 103.98 GB, why do I only have 68.21 GB available? I double and triple checked the size of everything on the disk and I still should have about 30GB more than I do. The 30GB just disappeared.
My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?Â

When I boot Fusion with MacAffee I get a message that there is an updated version of Fusion is ready for download. When I go to the site I'm offered a choice of just Fusion or Fusion with MacAffee. Since the boot message only talks about Fusion should I do the only Fusion download. Or should I get the combined one?

I'll explain myself better: I have a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

I have new iMac with a 3TB fusion drive. I would like to create a small *backup* partition where i can create an installer version of mavericks so when i do a clean install, i can select that drive from the bootable disk selection menu and it runs the mavericks installer from that partition, rather than a USB thumb drive. I looked at the recovery mode option however it appears to download a new 5gb installer of mavericks instead of using an already downloaded version of mavericks (updated version). Â
I dont want to split the SSD/HDD components of the fusion drive so they are seperate, i just want to add a small partition to be partitioned as a mavericks installer drive. Â
