OS X :: Textedit - Write In The Program And Save It Onto My Computer

Feb 3, 2009

I have just purchased my first apple. It is a powerbook g4 with leapord. My problem is that I have school projects that need to be done in text edit(apples version of notepad if im correct) I write what i need to write in the program and save it onto my computer. Then upload these saved files into a drop box that is located on my schools website(angel program). But when my professors try to open it. It says no files submited, even though i have submited them. I know it has to do with my apple because when I use microsoft notepad, the files will submit and can be opened. my whole school uses microsoft.

OS X Mavericks :: Save Email Messages To Computer And Not In Mail Program

Sep 7, 2014

My mail program seems to be slow.  I'm not sure why.  I get the spinning ball frequently.  I need to save mail messages sometimes for a few years and there are hundreds of emails. Is it better to save them on my computer than my mail program?  I may need to retrieve them at some other time so they need to be readable.  Is that possible?

I'm using OS X 10.9.4. I have a 3.06 GHz processor and 12 GB of memory.

Info:
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

OS X :: Error - Don't Have Permissions For Folder - Make Textedit To Write That File

Oct 1, 2010

I have a config file, /etc/my.cnf that has permissions set via the finder gui to have read/write for anyone that's an "admin". My user is an admin (turns out I'm the only user as well), but when I open this file (it's plain text) in text edit it gives me an error on save saying that I don't have permissions for the folder that it's in. I can, however, use nano via the terminal and modify the file without any issues. I don't want to set read/write permissions on /etc to everyone, so how do I make it so TextEdit (and thus other programs having the same problem) can write to that file?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Use A Java Program To Write An Executable Applescript

Mar 31, 2012

I'm using a PC with Windows XP. I'm a private developer. I've written a project in Java and wish to deploy it to other people using email. I've written an Install program (the Main-Class) and successfully packed this in a jar file with the project class files and some data files all as described in the deployment trail in the Java Tutorials. A recipient with a Mac with OS X downloads the jar file and runs it to install the project class files and some data files. The install program then writes an Applescript file (Vocab.scpt shown below) on the Desktop to make starting my downloaded program easier but it doesn't seem to work and I think it may be because the script file is not "executable". Could this be the case? If so, how could I change my install program to make the script file executable or alternatively use some other system to start the downloaded program?

Vocab.scpt:-

# Script to start: Vocab Version: 1.0.0

do shell script "cd /Applications/Vocab; Java Vocab"

Unfortunately I don't have a Mac to experiment with this problem and although I have spent some days on and off trying to find an answer in the mass of information available on Apple's website I can only find small clues here and there to answer my problem (which I would have thought was quite a common one). In Windows a batch file (eg. Vocab.bat) is automatically executable.

Windows On Mac :: Program Not Running On Bootcamp - This Program Cannot Run On A Computer With Less Than 64 Megabytes Of Ram

Aug 24, 2009

I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.

I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.

The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.

The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."

Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.

My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.

Software :: Unable To Modify And Save Files / Changing Permissions To Read And Write

Apr 22, 2009

I recently had to create a new user, copy all apps and files to same, and then reinstall MS Office 2004 for Mac. I use a mini, 2gig Ram, and Leopard (10.5.6)OS. All my old office files have become "read only" and I cann ot modify and save w/o renaming. Is there a "blanket" way to change the Permissions to "read & write" for all my Office files? Idid not see a similar item in the FAQ's......

Also, when I open an Office application, I get the following message: "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library". How do I fix that?

Applications :: DVD Ripping Program To Save Movie In MKV Format?

Jun 1, 2009

I am making the transition back to Mac pretty good except for a couple of programs that worked pretty good. Basically I have my DVD's stored in .MKV files for my Popcorn hour streamer. On my windows pc I use a DVD ripping program to save just the main movie in .ISO format. Then I would use another app that would save the .ISO as a .MKV. I'm having trouble finding a program that does what MakeMKV does. It basically puts a movie in a .MKV container without any compression plus chapters.

It takes basically 5 minutes for this program to do it. I have converted 160 of my DVD's this way so far and love it. I don't care to compress any of my movies since HD's are so cheap these days. This is the program I'm referring to. [URL]. From the start with ripping a movie and ending up with an .MKV the process is about 30 min with this program. Is they're a program that does what makemkv does? Am I better off trying to run Windows in virtualization with these apps?

Software :: Save DVDs To The Computer?

Mar 10, 2008

I have a sony handycam (DCR-DVD-400 I think is the model number) When I go to run it on my iBook, DVD player opens up and plays the DVD inside of the sonycam. When I eject the camera, the cameras door that holds the DVD opens...leading me to think that the computer recognizes it as an external mini DVD player. (Perhaps its possible to download programs off of those mini dvds?) I cant find a compatable driver, or any type of mac support for the camera. It also wont let me download the actual movie file from the camera to the computer. However, if I move a movie that I recorded with this camera to the mac from a PC, every program I have says it is not a movie file...but it is because it plays on a PC! Ironicly, the camera makes MPEG or MPEG-4 (cant remember) files So I got to thinking...I have 2 choices. I could either use my PC to do video editing and use a program called iSquint to convert files to iTunes and hopefully be able to edit it in iMovie.

OR

Since the computer seems to recognize the camera as an external DVD player and not a camera, I think I might be able to use a program that allows me to take a DVD and save it into the computer. I believe myMOVO from download.com will allow me to do this... Im not sure though. Its a program designed to take movies from youtube, CNN, comedy central, ect and download them into iTunes to be sent to an iPod...but it saves as a podcast. It also supports DVD saving, but I havnt had the chance to test it out. If it doesnt work, is there any free programs that will allow me to do this?

OS X :: How To Find Spy Program Installed Locally On Computer

Sep 20, 2010

If someone installs a spy-program locally on a computer, how would you go about finding it and/or rectifying the situation? A friend has reason to believe that someone installed software on their OS X computer to gather information. They may or may not have had the password, and she thinks they got on locally. How would she go about finding any such programs installed? She is reluctant to to a clean install (the only suggestion that I could think of).
