Dec 21, 2008 I'm in need of some guidance. It took me a little while to get my GTX280 into the 1st slot in my mac pro but I'm just wondering,
In order to boot into os x can I just leave the 280 in the 1st slot and put the old 7300 gt in the 2nd slot ?
Then I can turn the power off from the 280 and it will default to the 2nd slot rite? Or must I remove the bottom (280) card for the older card to work?

When i check on the apple menu/about this mac/more info/firewire it says that it can't figure out what hardware is connected. If i plugg another device through the same firewire plugg then it works.

I removed the metal hold down in the back. It looks like there's a little clip sticking out of the socket on the left of the card. Do I have to press that to release the card. Just don't want to screw anything up. Should I pull straight up on the card from the top edge?

Jun 28, 2012My Raid Card battery is dead and I'm wondering the point of keeping it. I only used it to raid together 2 hard drives to act as one in my computer. If I take it out will the 2 hard drives I raided cease to function or go on just fine? I did it for the performance boost for read speeds. My PCI slots are maxed and was thinking of opening up the raid card slot to add USB 3.0 ports but I'm also not sure if I can add a normal PCI card in that larger slot.

Oct 15, 2009So I have followed a bunch of the 'MacPro with mac raid card users wanting to do bootcamp' threads. I have attempted all the hacking required but have not been successful. I heard that bootcamp 3.1 will fix this problem possibly... so in the mean time I would like to remove my SAS drives and raid card and just use the sata drives that I have to do Mac OS and Windows.
I have removed the card but when I plug the drives in and boot up the machine, the drives are not recognized. Is there some plug that I need to reconnect somewheres?

May 5, 2012So I decided to go through with a clean install of Lion, since my MacBook is filled with unorganized junk and I just felt like getting a fresh start (I've also had connectivity problems with Airport, although it hasn't really bothered me much since I don't mind an old school network cable).I formatted a bootable USB thumb drive with the Lion OS .dmg file, restarted the computer while holding the alt button and selected to boot from the USB. The screen then showed the regular boot screen (whitish background with a grey Apple logo in the middle and a spinning loading icon right beneath the logo). After about 20 seconds, the Apple logo was replaced with a grey stop sign (a circle with a line straight across) and the loading icon kept spinning.
It's been like this for an hour and 20 minutes now, and I need to know what to do. Something is obviously not quite right. Should I remove the USB drive and try to restart the computer? Or just leave the USB drive and try to restart?

I took pictures with it on my Nikon D5100 and now when I went to go look at the pictures on my camera, I got an error message that said this card is broken and that I need a new SD Card. I've mounted it inside the machine, and connected the aerial, but then when I turn the computer on it makes the apple "bong" noise, but then I hear an electric "click" and it doesn't proceed - i.e. the computer screen doesn't power up. I've tried to unplug the machine, and then push the "on" button for 10 secs, before turning it on. When I remove the airport card, it powers up fine, so it just seems to be when it connects it doesn't let me turn the computer on.
