The default 'Macintosh HD' hard drive on my Intel Mac Pro (OSX10.6.8) is almost full and I'd like to clone it to a new larger capacity drive. To keep things simple I will remove the existing drive and keep it safe as a backup. I understand that I can clone the drive to a new one and make the new one bootable using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Apple Disk Utility but I just have a couple of quick questions.Â
Firstly I believe I must partition the new disk in Disk Utility using a GUID Partition table. What about the naming of the disk? Again to keep things simple I would like the new disk to be named 'Macintosh HD'.Â
Regardless of what I name the new disk when it is initially formatted/partitioned will the cloning process also copy the 'Macintosh HD' name to it? Can you have two disks with the same name connected to the Mac Pro at the same time during the clone process?Â
Secondly, will the cloning process in the Apple Disk Utility automatically make the new drive bootable or are there further steps required after the clone is made?Â
Finally, if I use the Apple Disk Utility to create the clone should I do this from the original Snow Leopard DVD that came with the Mac Pro or should I use the latest version that is on the installed Mac OSX?Â

After reinstall of OS X 10.7.4, I restored an older copy from Time Machine backup. I want to completely replace the current "Macintosh HD" folder with the folder that TM put inside it. I created a separate user account, that did not exist before to do it. Do I need to create a root account? Is there an easy way to copy /Macintosh HD/Macintosh HD/ to /Macintosh HD/?

Since the recent software update (early Feb I believe) my Mac has begun to freeze, first finder, then safari/chrome, followed by all other applications.Â
I have set up Activity Monitor to track what is causing the issue, however when the computer freezes I cannot open Activity Monitor (obviously).Â
I have contacted Apple Care with the hope that they could provide some assistance, we deleted all startup files (and the other startup related files in library), ran disk utility and repaired permissions.Â
We noticed that spotlight was using a lot of the CPU, and I removed my external time machine harddrive (as it appeared that it was damaged).Â
The freezing still occured, so I reinstalled Lion. The computer appeared to be working again... until it began to freeze again.Â

This morning I woke up and my iMac, which I had left sleeping, would switch on. As I discovered, for some reason the power cord had been disconnected. Once I connected it again, nothing would happen when I pressed the start button, not a noise... nothing.

I've got a iMac 27" mid 2010.
I see since several months some shadows and spots on the top left corner of the screen. I've read in many threads that this is a known issue (defect I would say, since I never misused my iMac).Â
My question is:
is this defect recognized by Apple and do they fix it for free?

So i haven't had one single problem with my Imac for 1.5 years until Yesterday I recently recieved a SD card that i purchased off ebay and stuck it into the side which I was expecting to popup but didn't This may or may not be the reason why my Imac is acting wierd but basically I cannot Left click at ALL, right click works, the internet worksÂ
The taskbar at the bottom with the icons do not have the title shown when I hover down the bottom either. I have a 2010 Imac with 12gb ram that i upgraded to. Â
Is there any steps that i can follow to ensure my imac runs normally, i have alot of data on computer that i need and i cannot find my boot cd anyhwereÂ

My Mac has been running slow lately. Usually after using Facebook and Facebook games. Do any of you think that Facebook may be the problem? Also, I ran disk utility to repair disk permissions. I then ran disk utility to verify Macintosh HD. After the scan, disk utility reported that the disk needed to be repaired. It stated that I needed to restart the computer with anotther disk (Mac OS X installation disk for example) then use disk utility to repair Macintosh HD. How do I restart the computer from the installation disk? I tried using the disk for Leopard but the Mac just started as usual. I then tried to start the installation disk from my account, but I couldn't open the utility folder. It said the utilities were not supported. I am using Mac OS X 10.7.2

What is left for me to upgrade that will improve my MacBook's (2007 - Intel) speed the most? I have a 2007 MacBook that has the maximum amount of RAM installed already (2 Gig). I've upgraded to OSX 10.7 also.. It's sometimes sluggish when trying to run Office 2011 or Windows XP under VM Ware Fusion?

Since I have done a disk repair (only change I can think of that may have had an impact) my Apple Magic Trackpad now randomly acts as though there is a "left click" being passed through. Sometimes it gets "stuck" in this left click mode. I've tried turning off single tap for left click in System Preferences, but to no avail.
